Summary: I Can't Believe Julia Roberts Starred in "The Mexican."
Review: As a Julia Roberts' fan, I was very disappointed in this movie. In fact, I fell asleep during it. I've seen Julia in much, much better movies, including "Mystic Pizza," "Steel Magnolias," and "Pretty Woman." All of which I own on DVD. Too bad she had to add this one to her resume. I can't believe I bought this DVD! What a waste of money!

Summary: Wildly Uneven Film
Review: This film has its moments. I thought Brad Pitt's portrayal of a guy who was a bit of an airhead was quite good. Also, Julia Roberts', Pitt's girlfriend and Gandolfini's hostage, portrayal of a devotee of every counseling and therapeutic approach to life was entertaining. James Gandolfini of "The Sopranos" is great to watch with Roberts too as they are terrific acting foils for one another. Thus, I have no complaints about the acting in this film. Where I have a BIG complaint though is with the script, which ambles along fine, if not brilliantly, for the first hour or so. However, it then gets so sidetracked with this ridiculous plot revolving around a Mexican pistol and the legends which surround it, that the film completely falls apart. That is the McGuffin of the whole film, btw, that Pitt, Roberts and Gandolfini are all on the road because this pistol must be recovered down in Mexico for some mobster. By the time Gene Hackmann (the mobster) comes on camera, you'd like to scream, because this whole add-on to the screenplay pushed you as the viewer beyond the point of no return. Hubby absolutely hated the film and would score it as one star. He joins several other Amazon reviewers here in their low views of this film. I was entertained for the first hour though so can't go that low in rating it.

Summary: whats all the flack?
Review: i heard this movie was a dud. boy did i hear wrong. it was funny plain old fashioned funny.as my husband said, it's one of those rode map movies. you need one to keep track. i like a movie that makes me feel something. it doesn't matter what it makes me feel. happy, sad, reflective. just so i don't get get to the end and feel disapointed. the mexican started out making you think. you had to watch it to be entertained. i like that. i shows that the people who made it trusts us to really watch it. they don't wrap it up and hand it to you all nice and tidy. the cast is so wonderful. you know they had to like what they were doing. the comady was fun the drama was dramatic and the storyline was very unique. i recomend this movie to anyone who likes comady, pitt, roberts and gandolphino. it's a hoot. well worth the time and the money.

Summary: Skip This One
Review: Rarely do I watch a movie in its entirety as bad as this one. Though I found myself continuously saying, "Hit the eject button", I stuck it out with the idea that something with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in it had to get better as time went on. It didn't. Brad Pitt is appealing enough, but he looked and appeared a good 7-10 years younger than Roberts. She seemed more like a big sister than a woman the refreshingly boyish and open hearted Pitt would be head over heels for. Skip this one - if you watched it because you like either star, they each have far better films to their credit. If you watched it to see them together, you're bound to be disappointed.

Summary: Better than I Thought
Review: I knew I wanted to see this movie on video after seeing the previews. I have never been a Brad Pitt fan, but I appreciated him playing a part that fits him in my book...not too smart, klutzy guy. Julia Roberts did just fine, better with her captor. I enjoyed the off beat treatment of the gay, hit man with a tender side, Robert's budding counseling degree, and Pitt's goofyness. The close up gun play turned me off. The background story of The Mexican amused my 13 year old son, who watched this one with me.

Summary: Bad Script - Boring Movie - One of the worst ever
Review: First for the good - The Video transfer was very well done on DVD - Colors were very crisp and accurate - music was also pretty good although nothing spectacular. Now for the bad. Bad script Bad script Bad script. I can't belive Pitt & Roberts actually agreed to do this terrible script. The Movie had no life and it just dragged and dragged and dragged. Scenes that were supposed to be funny just didn't fly. I just barely made it through this entire 2+ hour bore without turning it off. Why are bad movies always long?

Summary: OK Idea, Poorly Executed
Review: Julia was good. Brad was his usual wooden, only appeals to adolescent females, boyish, hopeless self. Together they might as well have been in different movies. NO CONNECTION! James Gandolfini stole the entire movie. He was awesome, and he and Roberts did manage to generate some believable interaction. Not enough to save the movie. Hackneyed imagery, blown opportunities. An over the top boring bad guy. Save your money and the precious time you might spend. They are both wasted on this turkey.

Summary: Quirky, romantic comedy
Review: People going in expecting your typical Julia Roberts romantic comedy will be disappointed-- it is a romantic movie, but with an edge, a body count, some language, and the two stars separated together. When they are together they work well, but Roberts works best with James Gandolfini. There scenes together are funny and touching-- while Pitt displays some fine physical comedy... it does get a little long, but it is enjoyable. I love the DVD... if you liked "Nurse Betty"... or quirky, independent romantic comedies then give it a try. This was a small budget film that did well thanks to two big stars.

Summary: BORING MOVIE, STUPID PLOT, NO CHEMISTRY...NEED I SAY MORE?
Review: Brad Pitt (great actor), Julia Roberts (our 90s Audrey Hepburn) have NO chemistry in this movie.

The comedic chemistry is terrible, the title of this movie is awful, the plot is stupid, basically this movie is a BOMB, all around.

Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt absolutely have NO chemistry together and why they made this movie is beyond my comprehension ...
