Review: Jim Carrey shows that he is the master of slapstic and physical comedy in this very funny film. Although it is a blockbuster and slightly commercial, it is fun and original. This is Cameron Diaz's first film. It's funny; she was in this film with Jim Carrey who was in Dumb and Dumber (his big movie), directed by the Farrely broters, while her big movie was also directed by the Farrely Brothers, There's Something About Mary. The plot has Carrey as a bank teller who is shy, yet he finds an antique-like mask that gives him great powers. It reminded me of The Eddie Murphy Nutty Professer movie because both were shy guys who got something that made them into completely different and calm people, yet loudmouths and jerks.Kids will like this film for its cartoon like special effects that reminded me of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." The dvd is supposed to be good, but I saw the tape, which has no problems with pan-and-scan. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!

Summary: SMOKIN
Review: Jim Carrey did well in this comic book tale and Cameron Diaz did well in her debut.this film stars wimpy Stanley Ipkiss,a nerdy bank teller who finds a green mask making him into a Romeo trying to woo sexy Tina Carlyle, but he also fights crime and bad people.for a kids film it has violence, but it's available in PG-13 in PG ratings.this film has awesome special effects and most enjoyable scenes involving sledgehammers, balloons, and a good dance sequence at the opera.

Summary: from zero to hero
Review: Reviewing the movie: I'm not a Jim Carrey fan, i'm really far from them (i think his acting in other movies is... well, dumb), besides, this movie is one of my favorites, and nobody could portray a better Mask character than Carrey.

This movie is not only a feast of special effects (by the ILM guys, inspired in the cartoon antics of Tex Avery), musical numbers, and laughs; this movie also has a message in it -- "From Zero to Hero".

Yeah! i know that this is part of the main title of the DVD (in theatres, it hasn't this title), somebody could think that Zero is refering to Stanley Ipkiss, and Hero is the Mask, but this title is NOT refering to the Stanley Ipkiss' Mask character, it's refering to Stanley Ipkiss himself! The Mask character is far from being a Hero, it's really a headache to Ipkiss and the society in general, but when Ipkiss realizes that he doesn't need the mask and began to confront his inner fears (and "the bad guys") without the mask help, that's when Ipkiss become a Hero... in the real life, somehow that's something that we can achieve when we stop "wearing our masks" and begin to act like ourselves, showing to the other who really are we.

Reviewing the DVD: The audio and video quality are good (the sound is Dolby Surround 5.1 and the video is remastered); this is a double sided disc, in one side you get the Full Screen version of the film, in the other the Widescreen version (something common in "old" dvd's), in the extras side, you can see 2 deleted scenes (but without commentary..), an audio commentary by Chuck Russell (here you can learn why those 2 scenes where eliminated... unfortunatelly the audio comentary doesn't have any subtitles, so, if you're not an English speaker, probably you'll have a problem); audio in english and french, subtitles in spanish, french and english; the theatrical trailer.... the box says that the dvd has Production notes, but i can't find none.

This is a good movie, and it doesn't matter if you're not a Carrey fan (like myself)

Summary: another Carrey movie ...
Review: This may not be the best of Carrey movies. Like many Carrey movies, this one is a bit strange sometimes; however it can be good entertainment if you look at it in the proper way: just relax if you can, do not think too much etc.. I cannot say I really enjoyed watching it, but it has some good points though : excellent special effects.

Summary: Great escapist fare...
Review: I like this film, and I like Jim Carrey. I like energetic performances, especially when coupled with a clever idea. A lot of people don't like Jim Carrey. Maybe they just don't understand. He was manic, crazy and totally in touch with the parody/satire in "Ace Ventura". In "The Mask", he creates a character that is totally his own. Certainly, there are silly moments, but there are also soft and sweet moments, as well as clever crazy moments. The effects are great, and Carrey must've had a great time incorporating them into his performance, a driven performance with center and conviction. There's a great performace by the dog who played Milo. This is a good dog. Often animals are used in film to be cute; Milo transcended this stereotype. One of the finest features of "The Mask", is the debut of Cameron Diaz, here playing a gorgeous vamp (to perfection). Ms. Diaz has subsequently been given a bad rap; I'm particularly referring to her performance in "Being John Malkovich", in which she was definitely not gorgeous, but consumed the role she played. Another example of the Hollywood heirarchy not taking gorgeous women for their innate talent. I admire Cameron Diaz as an actress, and watching this again confirms this. Unfortunately, I got this DVD when I bought my player, and it has subtitles that I can't get rid of. I have no problem with subtitles for foreign films. Don't be misled. Enjoy, kick back and let the fantasy take you away! It's SO much fun! I also think Carrey was brilliant in "The Truman Show", but, I guess, if you like films like "The Mask", your opinion doesn't count. I loved it!

Summary: Wow! The Mask's got a Flexible body movement today!
Review: I really like this movie.I've seen it on TV like 5 times.Hey, that's a coincidence, I rated this movie 5 STARS!! Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors. My favorite movie he acted in was "Dumb And Dumber." Anyway,in this movie, he had flexible body movements and he always said SMOKIN' in kind of a pretty good italianish voice.I wish I had a mask like this so I could do anything, and BE anything. He act's like a cartoon when he puts the mask on.But, the mask I hated was the one where Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) was the mask.He was pretty bad and cruel I should say.But the real mask Ipkiss is nice.He actually saved those people's lives. And I just want, to say that this is a great movie and I know you'll enjoy it.

Summary: Carrey'd Away
Review: THE MASK is the film that made Jim Carrey a movie star. Carrey plays Stanley Ipkiss, a nerdish bank worker, whose hum-drum life is about to change in a big way. Stanley finds an ancient mask, that alters his personality, and causes his innermost feelings and desire to surface. The once shy nerd turns into a green face, big grinning party animal. Directed by Charles Russell, who allows Carrey to be his over the top antic self, as his cartoonish alter ego, The Mask, wisely keeps things moving at a brisk pace. Some of the Mask's bits are real howlers, like the first time he tries to woo the lovely Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz in her big screen debut), or the climax, when he tries to defeat the evil, Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene), who wants to use the mask's power for dastardly deeds. Stanley's dog and sidekick Milo (almost) steals the show with a few antics of his own. The film has plenty of laughs and some fine F/X--a winner especially if you are a fan of Carrey's. Viewers can choose to watch the film in either Widescreen or Pan and Scan formats

The extras on The Platinum Series DVD are pretty good too. The commentary track from Russell is never dull. The deleted scenes offer a few more laughs from Carrey. Production notes, cast and crew information, and the theatrical trailer, round out the DVDs "added value material".While the handfull of extras are nice to have, Jim Carrey is the real reason to buy this disc. Recommended for the fun of it.
