Summary: Please let me have the full screen edition
Review: I would have given 5 stars to this film if this is a full screen edition DVD. I have the laser disc of this film ,when the DVD came out, I purchased it immediately as I love this film very much. But to my disappointment, the upper and lower portion of the film were blocked by the black bars (usually seen in wide screen edition), which made the original scence incomplete, you cannot see the hands of the elderly when they talked about their history of love, and Billy's/Ryan's head and hands were blocked by the black bars. I don't know why film companies always release widescreen edition of movies just by adding black bars to the full screen edition, same thing happened on laser disc edition of Top Gun, Terminator II-The Judgement Day and Back to the future I, II & III. Please let us have the original widescreen DVD similar to the one we watch in cinema. I gave 5 stars to the laser disc edition of this film, what more can I say about this film, this is one of the great comedy I have ever seen. I just love the lines.

Summary: You don't own it already?!?
Review: I just watched "When Harry Met Sally" again, and I'm happy to say that it still holds up after all these years. This film is still the quintessential Romantic-Comedy because it invented the genre, and also Meg Ryan's career. The movie's charm comes from its surprising down-to-earth story. There is very little "fate" or "destiny" like you might find in other Rom-Coms; no amazing coincidences or unbelievable circumstances. The sexes are pretty much equally represented here, and you'll probably learn some big secrets about either sex. I know I did, even after seeing the film some 20 times!

Basically, the story follows Harry and Sally as they met upon graduating from college and bump into each other over the years. Not only do we watch them grow in love, but we watch them grow up and grow together as friends. There are also a thousand little scenes which poke fun at dating and the sexes throughout the film, such as the famous fake-orgasm scene, the hilarious double-blind date, and Billy Crystal's philosophy of high and low maintenance, now firmly entrenched as part of our culture. There is so much to see and take in that I could possible summarize it all. Harry and Sally's romance is largely governed by both character's own worries and fears, and so there is the constant tension of "Will they finally get together?", and of course, when they finally do, their friendship almost crashes before their love finally saves them. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are perfectly cast, as they work well together and as individuals.

The DVD is excellent, with good visual and audio quality. The extras are rather sparce, just a "Making of" video and a good audio commentary from director Rob Reiner (who is funny in his own right). Buy it NOW! You owe it to yourself, this is a true classic.

Summary: Meg and Billy are cute together
Review: I usually don't like Billy Crystal movies. He's a very two-dimensional actor. But I love Meg Ryan. And Rob Reiner really brings the best out of both of these characters. Not to mention a script by Nora Ephron, who would later cast Meg with Tom Hanks in both Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.

I once had a relationship much like what's depicted in this movie, so that made it even more special for me. The way these two go through different stages of their development, the pacing of the whole film, it all felt very comfortable and very right. At no point do things feel hurried, nor do they drag, which is unusual for a film that takes place over time like this one does.

If you are a fan of either of these actors, I definitely recommend getting this movie -- it's the best either of them has ever done. If for no other reason, there's the famous deli scene ("I'll have what she's having"). It's a classic.

Summary: Cosmic timing when two stars crossed........
Review: Why a man is attracted to a woman (vice versa) and how that attraction turns into a relationship (or not) is the base for this movie. Enough people wrote about the story line and famous scenes that I won't repeat them here. What I get from watching this DVD countless times is this: when a movie worked, it's not unlike a great relationship that worked. I mean everything has to jive. This movie started out with a great idea based on personal experience and observation from Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron, a dead-pan writing, you-can't-get-better-chemistry casting (all 4 leads), and a timeless and oh-so-romantic setting in NYC.

My admiration goes to the filmmaker for leading the audience to watch through 12 years of Harry and Sally's separate and/or together personal growths to come to the conclusion that they are finally morphed into a matching couple. That's how us audience can 'feel' and 'root for' the characters.

The segments where old married couples recount the initial meeting with their mates were so positive and reaffirming. They make me believe in marriage and togetherness again.

Although the 80's wardrobe is a bit dated but the movie itself is still as good and fresh as when it first came out on the theatrical run. Buy this movie!

I give it 4 stars because there is no subtitle.

Summary: A great movie
Review: I am a huge action movie fan. Cannot get enough of it. John Woo, Bruce Willis, and Jet Li are my heroes. Comedy is another one of my favorites with Kevin Smith and the Farrelly brothers leading the list. Only liking a few date movies, i thought this one would waste a night. I sat down to watch this movie expecting a stupid date movie. I was wrong. This has great views on sex and how it affects a relationship. It is also very funny especially the memorable scene with the orgasm at the diner. This is a great movie to own and I don't think I will get tired of it soon. It is the best romance movie ever only trailing to my favorite Chasing Amy. A classic, a winner.

Summary: The romantic movie that started it all
Review: With all due respect to Woody Allen, "When Harry Met Sally" can flaunt the distinction of having started a genre that saw the '90's enthralled by the inexplicable mix of modern romance and grandma's musical taste. Think "Sleepless In Seattle," "Forget Paris," "French Kiss," "Only You," and "One Fine Day." You get the idea.

It has been said a million times how "When Harry Met Sally" set the standards for making a romantic movie, from onscreen chemistry to the pacing to the dialogue. Now let me introduce a new light on this and point out how a particular movie could exert an influence that far exceeds its desired results. As if the box office was not enough, the movie's soundtrack, with Harry Connick, Jr. at the helm, spawned the idea of rehashing age-old standards to help tell a romantic story, if not help sell an album. Thus, we saw artists shedding their musical skin in favor of a Sinatra repertoire. Think Sinead O'Connor, Sheena Easton, Ricki Lee Jones, Bobby Caldwell, and Kenny Rankin. Then there came the bandwagon riders from the newbie lot, like Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli, Silje Nergaard, and Michael Feinstein.

On to the DVD. Given my take on the movie's influence on the music industry, I can't help but feel cheated by the Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround audio track. "When Harry Met Sally" may be heavy on dialogue, but still, settling with a 2.0 Surround when there could've been better choices (DD 5.1 or DTS) is at best an injustice to a movie soundtrack that was way ahead of its time.

The audio commentary by Director Rob Reiner betrays everything his movie represents. I would've expected Reiner to at least approximate the bubbly point of view from which the characters played their roles.

Nonetheless, it pays to be occasionally reminded why we buy DVDs in the first place. The "When Harry Met Sally" DVD is a case in point. It's quite enough to know that our favorite movie has been immortalized through the best video format of our time. Who could ask for more?

Summary: Finally! A movie that tells the truth
Review: When you are tired of all the contrived insane storylines for "romatic comedies" you can always return to this movie. Awesome script, awesome actors.

Summary: Another one of my all time favorites
Review: There's very little I can say about this movie that hasn't already been said. I didn't get to see this movie until it had been out about a decade (which is good- I don't think an 11 year old should watch this movie!). So all I knew about this movie was the infamous sceen in the cafe. But there's so much more to this movie than just that one sceen. I just love how funny this movie is and how much chemistry there is between the actors. Billy Crystal is a genius. Did you know that during the sceen where they're in the museum and he keeps going on about paprikash, that's all ad lib? It's such a cute sceen! I also like the sceen where they're in Sharper Image singing "Surry With a Fringe on Top." I don't know why- they're just so funny and spontaneous and seem so real!

If you're one of the few who still hasn't watched this movie, do it!

Summary: A Smart Delightful Romantic Comedy.
Review: When two people (Billy Crystal & Meg Ryan), who become longtime companionship, who drift mostly likely to friendship to love.

Directed by Rob Reiner (The Story of Us) brings a smart romantic comedy, largely thanks to Nora Ephorn Screenplay. This film has plenty of humor and a nice good locations looks of New York City. This film is actually a semiautobiographical tale. Grade:A-.

Summary: Just loved this movie
Review: I never thought twice ever about watching this film I recently saw in on TNT and now I finally know why it got 3 stars and because its such a great story. By now judging by all the reviews everyone should have this basic story down with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in this story. It really is not the most exciting movie but that is not what we look for in this movie its about mature things and about deciding where which is true if Billy Crystal can actually be just friends with hot Meg Ryan and not have any sexual tension involved that's pretty hard with a sparkling chick like Meg Ryan in this film. Seriously one the best Romance stories I have ever seen and I think anyone can watch this film you don't have to be a high Romantic film fan because I am sure not. The orgasm seen is a little rediculous but some say that scene was added by Meg Ryan Who Knows? Billy Crystal is most best in this film and in my opinion much better in this film than in City Slickers.
