Rating: Summary: My favorite picture Review: This is just the loveliest comedy I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). A great script, with real dialogues -the ones you have all days- not the crap we use to hear nowadays. Excellent performances from Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, with a good supporting cast. A good thing: in between the different moments of the movies, old husbands and wives tell their stories. You have to watch it and then you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Chemistry between these two is tangible! Review: One of my favorite movies of all time, betweem the hilarious interviews with old married couples, and the classic lines, "I'll have what she's having." this movie is liquid gold. The comedic genius of Billy Crystal, and Meg Ryan will have you holding your tummy throughout the entire film. The growing affection which began with total dislike will definetly warm your romantic side. Who can forget the combination of love, and comedy that is a success with flying colors. All us Sally's want our Harry's!
Rating: Summary: Light-hearted, but a little too cutesie... Review: This movie has a great sound-track and gives an original, light-hearted spin to the Romantic Comedy genre. But all-too-often it feels like just another cutsie star vehicle for Meg Ryan who makes lots of adorable facial expressions and talks in a high-pitch voice in lieu of acting.
Rating: Summary: FINALLY! The DVD is coming, and it will be special! Review: Just a note to let fans of this wonderful romantic comedy (and one of my favorite movies of all time) know that the DVD version is coming in early 2001, and it will be a rare special edition from MGM! The release date reported at the VSDA (the convention for people who own video stores) was 1/9/2001. Features mentioned were a featurette, a commentary by Riener (yes!) and the usual trailers and production notes. More is likely to be announced later. I love this movie, and I can't wait for it to come out for pre-order here so I can replace my VHS copy.
Rating: Summary: I'll Have What She's Having Review: Ever since I first saw this gem in the theaters, I have been in love with Harry and Sally. It is a fantastically funny and warm film. Meg Ryan is wonderful as the ever hopeful Sally. Billy Crystal also brings a great deal to the movie as the wise cracking Harry. From their cross country trek to their New Year's Eve reunion, you'll be tickled and moved by the many moments When Harry Met Sally.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST ROMANTIC COMEDY IN EXISTENCE Review: This movie is in one word--perfect. It has humor, wit, romance, and heart; a very rare combination of qualities that is even rarer achieved in cinema! I can watch it countless times and never bore of it! Director Rob Reiner is worthy of being nominated for best director of all time. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are superb together. They are the perfect choice for this incredible script. No other actors could have pulled this off as successfully as they did together. Everyone should own this movie! I have a collection of over 100 movies and if I could only keep 10 this would be one of them! I could go on forever! But no need; it speaks for itself.
Rating: Summary: A romance in which it's easy to lose yourself. Review: When a film has remained popular for long enough, it becomes a cultural reference point. Rob Reiner's movie, "When Harry Met Sally", is just such an icon. I can't help thinking that it heralded the great "relationship" boom of the nineties. And it's because the film has been subsumed into the body of western society, that it is hard to review. It's true that "When Harry Met Sally" is a warm and funny story but for me, it's the many dollops of wisdom that make the film special. Even if you don't agree with much of the philosophy that Harry Burns, (Crystal), spouts, it's still fun to toy with. For example, it's easy to understand why he feels that men and women can't be friends. It might not always be true but it's one of those common beliefs that rarely get said. And so, we can appreciate Sally's initial naiveté when she fails to "get it". In a sense, both of the central characters are on a journey; one that takes twelve years and three months to complete. Sally, (Ryan), needs to grow up and shed some of the baby fat that surrounds her world-view. She has drive, but little confidence at the start. Wind the clock forward ten years and we get to witness one of the most memorable scenes in cinema history, as she convincingly fakes an orgasm in the middle of a crowded diner. If that's not confidence, I don't know what is. In the same way, Harry begins as a cocky, self-centered boy who will sleep with anything in a skirt. It takes an ego-bruising blow, delivered by his wife prior to their divorce, to crack Harry's shell of invulnerability. And it is only after this humbling experience that Harry and Sally become friends; sharing the heartache of lost love. The two of them grow closer as a result but eventually get a little too close for Harry's comfort. To quote Harry, "Maybe you get to a certain point in the relationship where it's just too late to have sex." Inevitably, the pair struggle to reconcile their platonic relationship with this "momentous" event. It's not long before they are estranged. And you know the old saying, "You don't miss the water till the well is dry." Harry slowly comes to the realization that he needs Sally, despite her quirks, her expectations and her opposing outlook. But the damage has already been done and it takes a major breakthrough on his part, to bridge the gap. Naturally, we get a happy ending. There was never any doubt since the audience is treated to several vignettes featuring older married couples reminiscing about how they met. So it's no surprise that the film ends on the same note, with Harry and Sally. This is one of those films that get better with every viewing. Maybe it takes some time to come to terms with a wisecracking dwarf as the romantic lead, but it's my theory that most Rob Reiner pictures acquire greater depth with age.
Rating: Summary: ALL LOVE TO MEG RYAN Review: When oh when will this title be available on DVD? One of the most successful and moving romantic comedies in the last 20 years(there really haven't been that many after Annie Hall), it really deserves to be released immediately. The movie works so well because mainly of the writing by Nora Ephron. I am not a huge fan of the recent Ephron-directed romantic comedies-a little too sticky sweet for my taste. Harry & Sally have just enough cynicism to want me to stay with them for two hours. I wanted to take care of Sally(Meg Ryan) and hang out with Harry(Billy Crystal). They said the smart, funny things that we all wish we could come up with on the spot. And they fell in love over a ten-year period. So simple yet so brilliant. Falling in love with your best friend is the ultimate, and it doesn't happen very often. This film, although the nostalgic music has been ripped off by nearly movie for the past ten years, is a classic.....and I didn't even mention the famous scene in the deli.
Rating: Summary: Greatest Movie of All Time! Review: I've seen this movie at least 200 times, and I'm still not sick of it. It has got to have the best dialogue between chracters of any movie I've seen. And, I've seen all the "greats". This movie tops them all, you can watch it over and over again and it still makes you laugh and it still makes you cry. If you've ever been in a relationsip this movie is a must see!
Rating: Summary: A romantic masterpiece! Review: A romantic masterpiece that anyone can relate to, this is by far my very favorite movie of all time! Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are outstanding in this movie with supurb performances and a brilliantly made script! This movie never gets boring no matter how many times you've seen it. It's also spellbinding for the first time watcher. When Harry Met Sally is an exploration of the human soul and a profound look at men/women relationships. It will touch a cord with anyone who sees it.
