Rating: Summary: Remembering 1985 Review: Adam Sandler is best known for playing basically idiots who sense of humor doesn't extend much past the bathroom. While he is very funny and great at playing those characters, he was painting himself into a corner. He really turned heads with his portrayal of Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer. The movie takes place in a Northern New Jersey town circa 1985. Robbie is a popular wedding singer who is about get married himself. He meets Julia who is a server at the catering hall he performs at. She too is engaged and they strike up a friendship. Robbie is stood up at the altar and sinks into a depression. He is revived out of it by Julia, whom he then falls for. He finds out that her fiancé is a jerk who fools around on her. He eventually wins her in the end and the movie closes with Robbie and Julia marrying. Mr. Sandler plays Robbie with a sensitivity and charm that he had previously never revealed. You really feel for him and care what happens to him. Drew Barrymore is stunning as Julia and she plays her with a romantic innocence. The clothes, hair and set designs are all classic 80's stuff and if you grew up in that time, they will elicit laughs as well.
Rating: Summary: Kickin¿It Old School Style-If You Were In School in the 80s Review: This has got to be my favorite Adam Sandler flick to date- his Robbie Hart is likeable from the get-go, everyone's wedding singer extraordinaire. Sandler's honest characterization makes him the object of our sympathy as we follow him through the painful scene in which his fiancee jilts him at the altar. Robbie's despondence is broken when he meets a sweet girl named Julia (played by Drew Barrymore) who coaxes him into singing at her upcoming wedding to one Glen Goolia. Whereas Glen has no interest in helping Julia plan the wedding, Robbie offers his expertise and they grow closer together. Robbie discovers, on a double date, that Glen is quite the player, and has been cheating on Julia. Later on in the evening, Robbie's ex shows up on his doorstep, paying him a booty call, and gives Julia the wrong impression when she shows up the next morning to confess her newly-realized feelings for him. In a fit of broken-hearted resolve, she concedes to marrying Glen in Vegas right away. Once Robbie gets wind of this and delivers his classic oneliner, "Psycho...get out of my VanHalen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up," it's a race against time to get on Julia's flight. He woos her with a song, and well, he doesn't have to do the singing at their wedding. With cameos by Steve Buscemi and Billy Idol, the "Wedding Singer" has also produced two volumes of great 80s tunes, as well as an Adam Sandler original.
Rating: Summary: Robbie Loves Julia: An 80's Flashback Review: The "Wedding Singer" takes place in a time when Michael Jackson ruled the charts and Madonna was only starting to gain widespread fame. This era, known as the 80's, is the setting for this film starring Adam Sandler ("Little Nicky") and Drew Barrymore ("Charlie's Angels") in what is one of the best films mad about one of the best decades of the last century. Robbie (Sandler) is a wedding singer who is hired to perform at weddings in the small New Jersey town he resides in. At a wedding banquet, he meets Julia (Barrymore), the cousin of one of his best friends who happens to be the newest waitress at the banquet hall. Robbie seems to be the happiest person on earth, especially since he is marrying his girlfriend. However, plans change, and Robbie finds himself dumped at the altar, lonely and depressed. Julia on the other hand is dating Glenn, a selfish, sexist pig that she believes will make her happy. With Robbie tagging along and helping her plan her upcoming wedding, they get to know each other, and discover the chemistry they have for one another. Only with time do they realize that they are in love, but how will Julia break up her marriage? Directed by Frank Coraci, the "Wedding Singer" is by far the best Adam Sandler film ever made. While his other films do possess humor, the "Wedding Singer" has a romantic plot, with comedy mixed in. Both stars are great, as well as Christine Taylor as Julia's cousin, and Alexis Arquette as Robbie's Boy George-looking band mate. With many hysterical performances, especially that of Robbie's rapping grandmother, the 'Wedding Singer" will make you wish that you were back in time to the 80's. A great film for any romantic-comedy fans!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic movie! Review: This movie has everything...comedy, romance, fun soundtrack. All you Children Of The 80s will love the "MTV generation" pop culture jokes and references. If Adam Sandler made more movies like this and fewer of the "Big Daddy" types, he'd be my favorite actor.
Rating: Summary: If i could id give it negative stars i would. Review: Along with the beach i have to say this is the worst movie i have ever seen. It is very boring, with a very simple story line that is dragged out, the parts that are supposed to be funny arent, and you have to force your self to laugh. I realy didnt like this movie i think its more for 20 + year olds at the youngest. It sadly was a disapointment
Rating: Summary: Not the worst Review: It's one of the better Sandler movies, but that's not saying much. After Billy Madison & Happy Gilmore, Sandler lost any kind of edge that he had. He wants us viewers to love him too much, abandoning the wackiness. I miss the old Sandler. The Wedding Singer had potential, and the 80's is a ripe target for a comedy. Unfortunately, instead of being a parody of 80's romantic comedies, The Wedding Singer reilies on same lame plot devices. Go see Billy Madison for the hundreth time instead of this wasted oportunity.
Rating: Summary: This COULD HAVE been such a great movie!!! Review: The general story of this movie is great...but there are just enough vulgar parts to turn me off. I don't know what it is about most Adam Sandler movies, but why is it that he can be so sweet and charming one minute and then be so crude you just want to slap his face? (He was like that in Happy Gilmore, too) The movie is cast well and the retro music is great. It's too bad someone didn't try to clean up the movie a little bit before it got released, because it could have been one of those few that is funny, sad, and romantic all at the same time.
Rating: Summary: 8mm Review: I'm 14 years old and recently saw 8mm. At first, I found it boring and pointless but once Joaquin Phoenix came into it, I was practically hanging off every word. As much as it shocked me because of the violence and butchering, I found that it was a unique and interesting film. Nicholas Cage and Joaquin Phoenix especially, played excellent parts that I don't think anyone else could of matched.
Rating: Summary: The Wedding Singer Review: This is, and has to be one of the most funniest and enjoyable comedies of all time. I have never in my life laughed so much! Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler act very well with extraordinary talent and humour. I can honestly say that I have seen this film at least 30 times and so far, I have never tired of it. (Be sure to look out for George, the transvestite, and the fat singing man).
