Review: I'm too impatient to write a real review. This movie is one of the all time greats. Should be in *every* guys' movie collection (like The Godfather, The Matrix, Caddyshack, etc etc.)

Summary: This movie is so money!!!
Review: Mike (Jon Favreau)has just broken up with his longtime girlfriend. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot seem to get out of the depressive state that he is in. So his smooth, fast-talking friend Trent (Vince Vaughn)decides he will do whatever it takes to show Mike a good time. Trent's vast array of cheering up techniques is filled with everything from laughing over martinis in a cocktail lounge, to picking up beautiful babies on their way to Las Vegas. Whatever it may be, these young "Swingers" are determined to re-write the rules on dating.

"Swingers" is without a doubt one of the funniest films to come out of the 90's, and it truly captures the dating scene of today. Jon Favreau wrote the amazing script. It provides for tons of killer dialogue which includes one of the most memorable lines of all time "You are so money, and you don't even know it." This film made me laugh harder than I ever have before. The most memorable scene is when Jon Favreau repeatedly calls the answering machine because it keeps hanging up on him. It goes on for about five minutes, until the woman finally picks up, and tells him to never call her again. It had me in tears from laughing so hard. The performances are what make this film succeed. Jon Favreau is amazing as Mike. He will make you feel sorry for him, and make you laugh at the same time with how bad his luck is. Vince Vaughn obviously gives the best performance as Trent. His advice on dating, and his smooth, player-like nature is the reason he became one of my all time favorite characters. Heather Grahm, Ron Livingston, Patrick Van Horn, and Alex Desert are all outstanding as the supporting cast.

All I can say is thank you Miramax for releasing the Collector's Series DVD!! The DVD is simply amazing, and lets you see the film in a whole new light. My favorite special feature is the illustrated action commentary with Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn. Another great bonus is an original documentary on the making of the film entitled "Making it in Hollywood." It takes an in depth look into : the writing of the story, getting the film made, and the "Swingers" culture. You also get a short film entitled
"Swingblade", deleted scenes, and a gag reel. The special features are worth the price alone! Do yourself a favor and buy this DVD, because you will not be dissapointed.

Summary: Lounge Lizzards
Review: Swingers, an independent film from '96, is a snapshot of the West Coast club scene at that time. The film put Doug Liman on the map, as an in demand director, and served as the launching pad for the careers of some of its stars.

Mike Peters (Jon Favreau, who also wrote the script) is in relationship limbo. He can't seem to shake his feelings for an old girlfriend back east. His smooth talking best buddy Trent (Vince Vaughn) is determined to show him a good time--no matter what it takes. Since both men are unemployed and struggling to make ends meet anyway, Mike figures, what's he got to lose. The film traces the pair's misadventures and the colorful characters that meet along the way.

Liman's confident direction makes you forget that he is "new" at this. Favreau's script is filled with wit and wisdom. Vaughn becomes Trent--and all of us at some point has met a guy like him, in our life Heather Graham bursts onto the screen as a sexy player. Swingers is a pitch perfect comedy, that despite its attitude never goes out of style.

The Collector's Series DVD is quite a step up from the "movie only" disc. The two audio commentaries are great. One has director Doug Liman and editor Stephen Mirrione discuss the movie on a more tecnical level. While the second has Favreau and Vaughn go through the writing and acting of the film. Together both offer a well rounded discussion of the film. The original documentary "Making It In Hollywood" goes further into the step by step process. From script to screen its all here. Some stuff is repeated but its not too bad. There are a few deleted scenes with optional director's commentary, an outtake reel, a media gallery and the spoof short film called "Swingblade".

All in all, not a bad collection of extras, to compliement a very funny comedy

Summary: It's Money, Baby!
Review: This is the second DVD release of Swingers and this time they got it right! The movie itself is excellent, one of my favorite 90's releases and the DVD presentation just makes it better.

Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen the movie image is much improved over the previous release and just about as good as Swingers is ever going to look. Remember, this was a low budget flick.

Audio is in English 2.0 surround and sounds pretty darned good. Dialogue is clear and understandable, and lets face it, that's what matters in this kind of film.

In terms of supplements you get two commentaries. The first by director Doug Liman and the film's editor. It is an interesting and lively track that you should enjoy listening to. The second commentary is with stars Jon Favreau & Vince Vaughn and is hugely entertaining. I have to beleive this is the first DVD commentary to utilize Telestrator technology! This is a good, fun commentary track. Next up is a well put togethere 45 minute documentary on the making of Swingers featuring a bunch of cast interviews. The Cutting Room Floor feature includes 5 alternate and extended takes including some great ad-libbing from Vince Vaughn during the video game hockey scene. Swingers Mania Gallery shows somes stills and promotional items from the film and isn't really very interesting. Last up is Swing Blade, a 3 minute trailer for a ficticious movie that has the character from Sling Blade trying to pick up women in bars. It doesn't really have anything to do with Swingers, but it is funny.

You should definitely pick up this disk!

Summary: My new favorite
Review: Well I rented this movie a few weeks ago, and just liked it. It was good, but for some reason the first time I saw it, I didn't instantly fall in love with it. Until I watched it again...and I realized in A LOT of ways, I am Mike. One of the reasons I loved this movie so much is I related to it in a lot of ways. I watched Mike and some of the time I was just screaming at the TV going "Whoa this guy is me!". 2 days after renting it and watching it a second time I bought the dvd. Now I watch it basically every week. To the ladies though, to me, this is very much a "Guy Movie." Meaning the majority of women probably won't be able to relate to it, or they might, it really depends, but guys will get it instantly. One reviewer I saw described it as somewhat "the male equivalent of Sex and the City" which is an apt description I think. Any guy who watches this movie will be able to relate one character to himself and the rest to his respective group of friends, trust me. I showed this to my group of friends and they loved it too. By the way, if you've ever sat around and played video games with your friends, which I certainly have, The hockey scene is exactly what goes on when guys get together and play video games. Cursing each other out, almost coming to fights, pausing and un-pausing the game, instant replay, it's just all so true. I think I've been looking for a movie like Swingers for a long time, a "guy movie" thats not action, violence and explosions, but a movie thats actually about guys, friendship, and their quests for love. I think I've found my movie. 5 stars

I also recommend "Diner" but I actually liked Swingers better

Summary: This Movie Is So Money
Review: Swingers is the crown jewel of any nightlife movies. It keeps to its main goal of wanting anybody to go out and start nightlife. Trent Green played by Vince Vaughn is the perfect image of that one friend that always seems to get you in trouble or made famous. Swingers' scene where the guys are playing NHL 94 hockey is one of a kind in portraying how the competitiveness comes out in those who play video games. Swingers is definitely one of the most over looked films out there. A definite recommendation to anyone who likes a good fun movie, watch Swingers.

Summary: One of the best guy movies...
Review: This movie is one of the best guy movies you will see, outside of "Diner". It is about guys that moved from New York to Hollywood and are trying to make it as actors. It portrays their struggles, and how they handle the un-written golden rule when you get a girls phone number at a club/bar and your friends tell you: "No, you must wait 3 days before you call her".... It is one of those movies that you can watch over and over even if you've seen it on cable like 30 times or so, it just gets better. The soundtrack is also good and makes you remember scenes from the movie. This movie is "money"... Chad Castorina
