Rating: Summary: ignore the ignorant reviews Review: Just a note: please ignore the clump of negative reviews that mention the "gay agenda" of the film. It seems that a fundamentalist group put out an "alert" and asked all its members to flood the film with negative reviews online in an effort to kill its sales/rentals. It disturbs me to no end that people who claim to uphold the highest moral standards would blatantly lie in order to oppress a group of people. The truth is- there *IS* no gay agenda to this film. There is a supporting character who is lesbian, and her partner leaves her in the middle of her pregnancy. The focus is not on their sexuality or relationship, but on what it's like to start over alone, as a single mother. All relationships, gay or straight, are challenged by the same issues. It's incredibly sad that ONE GAY CHARACTER in a film constitutes a gay agenda to so many people. Honestly, the film isn't a great piece of art. It's just a warm, funny movie about someone who takes a risk and learns a little bit about life along the way. I'd much rather my children see this, with it's so called "gay agenda" than any film with tons of violence and straight sexual content.
Rating: Summary: Very refreshing movie! Review: After suffering from boredom watching "Lost in Translation" I needed to see a film that would lift my spirit and I found "Under the Tuscan Sun". I LOVED that movie! It was like dipping in a pool of cool spring water. Diane Lane is absolutely fantastic. All the range of emotions are there and she is playing all of them just right and with so much ease. That's what I call a great actress! And if we add the breathtaking images of Tuscany, we have a jewel of a film!
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly good for a "chick flick" --my guy liked it too. Review: Make no mistake, this is officially a "chick flick"--fodder for Saturday night dates. But I was surprised when the man of the house claimed to like this film a lot--he of the "no-chick-flicks" rental rule.) The story is loosely, very loosely adapted from the book by Mayes, in such a way as to add characters to a one-woman story. The protagonist, played delightfully by Diane Lane, is sucker-punched by a sudden divorce and the financial joys of community property divorce laws. She goes on a gay tour of Italy (a gift of a lesbian friend) and almost literally falls into buying a Tuscan villa. Ah, what a dream. What follows is the story of the villa being renovated while Frances (Lane) searches for Mr. Right (Senore Corretto?) This is a search fraught with wrong turns and misdirections--a comment that sometimes finding the right person to love is not what's expected. The scenery is lovely, the characters are rich and amusing. While this film was to me somewhat silly, it was absorbing and fun to watch. A nice taste of La Dolce Vita and made me wish I could visit Italy.
Rating: Summary: Well Written, Well Acted, Beautifully Filmed Review: I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but I found the story entertaining and the characters quite believable. Diane Lane and Sandra Oh are both engaging. A pleasant way to spend an evening. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: CHEESY! And I don't mean Parmigiano-Reggiano! Review: As a previous reviewer said, it pulled out every single American cliche about Italy in the book, which is pretty much what I had expected. But oh my GAWD was this awful! I was laughing hysterically at this. As bad as a low budget miniseries.
Rating: Summary: Spectacularly beautiful film! Review: Under The Tuscan Sun is a spectacularly beautiful film. Diane Lane is amazing and the story is charming and involving. The characters and locations were also great. A beautiful film that I whole-heartedly recommend.
Rating: Summary: A stunning and enjoyable movie. A joyous romp! Review: This has got to be one of the most beautiful and entertaining films I have EVER seen. It is magnificient looking film with an excellent story, some hilarious scenes, and wonderful acting. Diane Lane plays Frances Mayes superbly and the whole movie is so entertaining and enjoyable. In a word... beautiful! 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: Much more than "eye candy" for the ladies!!! Review: ILOVED THIS MOVIE!!!! THE WIDESCREEN DVD VERSION REALLY TAKES IN THE BREATHTAKING SCENERY, AND THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS IN THE LANDSCAPE. THIS MOVIE REALLY DREW ME IN FROM THE BEGINNING, AND IT REALLY BROUGHT OUT EMOTIONS RANGING FROM SADNESS AT THE BEGINNING OF HER DIVORCE, HAPPINESS IN WHEN SHE BEGINS HER NEW LIFE IN TUSCANY AND MEET THE "EYE CANDY", ANGER OVER HOW SHE IS TREATED, AND TEARY-EYED AT THE BITTERSWEET ENDING OF THIS MOVIE. YEP, THIS IS DEFINITELY A KEEPER!!!!!! I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE MORE NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF THIS MOVIE!! HAVE NO DISTRACTIONS, RELAX, AND LET TUSCANY TAKE YOU AWAY!!!!
Rating: Summary: A WALTZ OF SCHMALTZ ~ AMORE' ABORE' Review: Under the Tuscan Sun, sounds like a dish at Macaroni Grill, and the movie itself plays like a pre-processed plate of bland Italiano. Implausable plot, rediculous faux feel good moments. Diane Lane is so better than this cheesy little movie ..its Money Pit meets The View. Lets invent a new genre of movies, lets call this Terra Cotta Trite. I wont divulge the plot, because you can't prove a negative. Lets just say that if you want to see Diane Lane at her best, Unfaithful is a better bet. If you enjoy film that insults your intellect while shooting pretty scenes country side, then by all means enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Stinks Review: This movie was terrible. If there was an option for - stars I would go there. Read the book it's much more entertaining!
