Summary: How Mallrats could have been better...
Review: It should have been more like Clerks. What made clerks so good was the witty, unbathed dialogue. The best moments in Mallrats aren't the Silent Bob and Jay slap stick, or the Animal House like bad guy subplot, it was the superhero baby talk, the stink palm, and the criteria for a food court talk. These scenes are what makes Kevin Smith so great and unfortunately are not enough in this movie. Why is there a bad guy subplot? This subplot turns a movie that should be a smart crack at the cliches of the Mall generation and their relationships, to a 'b' movie with some great scenes. I'd love to see Kevin Smith redo this movie (hey Lucas does it) and Loose the bad guy subplot, have the movie get deeper into mall generation views and relationships, and bring back the EA sports NHL hockey game!! The dvd extras are terrific and make it a good buy.

Summary: This is a modern classic comedy.
Review: "Mallrats" is the second of director Kevin Smith's films. It takes a humorous look at life, love, and the struggles of living as a young adult in the 90's. The acting is supurb, and the comedy appeals to both those who like slapstick as well as sophisticated humor. Along with "Clerks", and "Chasing Amy" this is a must have for any film buff.

Summary: Unfairly maligned masterpiece of pop culture.
Review: Though critically bashed and apologized for by K.S. himself, I found the movie hillarious. For all of those in love with comic books, Star Wars, and spending an entire day doing nothing -- this is your movie. Light-hearted and hillarious, this is a must-see for those in need of a laugh.

Summary: Extra Features make this a must have
Review: As much as I love this movie, The folks at View Askew made it even better with all the extras they've loaded onto this DVD. Tons of extras, and in my opinion, Kevin Smiths funniest movie. Better than Clerks and Chasing Amy IMHO. Also stands up to repeated viewing - the only problem is that when you see all the extra stuff, you watch the movie for all those plot threads that were taken out, and feel almost cheated. Still, Buy this DVD - It is sooooo worth it!

Summary: If you get the humor, you're part of the problem
Review: So, here we have Mallrats, Kevin Smith's second effort that on first viewing I considerd as bad a movie as everyone else on the planet considered it. But, on second viewing, and second thought, I realized the movie had more to offer. From repeat watchings of Clerks and Chasing Amy I developed a love of Kevin Smith's style. You get drawn into this universe that seems to revolve around conveinence stores, malls, and comic books. Fans of the sci-fi/fantasy genre and those who know who Stan Lee is will appreciate the references and truly I can say this is an entertaining film that's always up for repeat viewings. And if you can't see the movie's charm than consider it more as spending a day with the friends you always wanted at the mall. Complete your 'Jersey Trilogy' with a copy of Mallrats...just make sure you dont leave it out where other people could find it. Snootchie Boochies.....oooh, I feel so dirty, but in a wonderful way.

Summary: a pleasent film
Review: I wish that I could give this film high marks as"Clerks" and "Chasing Amy,two very smart and funnymovies.Mallrats lacks what Kevin Smith' early and latter films has.Characters you care about and is written very well. The DVD of this movie is worth purchasing, not for the movie but for all the wonderful extras that come with the DVD. Mallrats Special Edition is the best DVD that I have bought in the last few months. If you did'nt like the movie you'll love the DVD.

Summary: funny
Review: i dont understand why this movie gets all these godawful reviews......OKAY IT IS'NT CLERKS!!!!! what were you expecting a sequel to clerks or something.....this is the same thing that happened to tarantino after he made fiction and people watched dogs which is just as good in my opinion i am turning into a die hard kevin smith fan part of that reason is because i am from NEW JERSEY and if you liked clerks i cant reccomend this to you.....because its not that kind of movie BUT if you enjoyed Clerks from a writing standpoint and are a kevin smith fan or just like comics pop it in your vcr it is very funny...in the words of Jay- "snoochie boochies!"

Summary: SILENT BOB IS BACK ON THE ESCALATOR
Review: Mallrats did horribly at the box office. This fact is undisputable. However this movie has heart. It gets funnier the more you watch it. However if you don't like comics, sci fi movie references and dialogue about anything and everything this movie is not for you. The DVD collectors edition is a gem. There is over an hour of deleted scenes. In fact a whole subplot that got cut because it din't quite work. Commentary throughout the movie with Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes(Jay), Ben Affleck(Shannon) and Jason Lee(Brodie). Well worth it to hear them banter between themselves. You can tell they had a great time makin this movie. It shows in the film as well. This is definately a four star movie and with all the extras it goes straight to five stars. Hey at least Mallrats will make money on video since it bombed at theatres. Snoochie Boochies.

Summary: No Sophomore Jinx as movie or DVD
Review: I recently left a review for the DVD Collector's Edition of Clerks. Clerks is one of the funniest and smartest movies ever. This is not opinion. This is fact.

Many regard Mallrats as a failure and from a box office perspective I suppose it was. Well, what can I say, the critics were wrong. It is a very clever movie and watching what it is from what it started as (edited scenes on the DVD) one can really appreciate the effort Kevin Smith and crew took to make this movie great.

My criticisms of the Clerks DVD was that the extras were bogus, bland and not inciteful and the conversion to celluloid was poor to average. The conversion for Mallrats is much better although the sound quality still is not what I expect from cd quality but the rest of it is excellent.

Mallrats is a success and the DVD version learned from Clerks DVD's mistakes. Interesting extras and good conversion. This is a must see.
