Summary: A Movie For the Thinking Man
Review: I seen this movie after Clerks and was far more impressed. There are so many tributes to past great things,( Jaws, X - Men, Superman, Batman etc.)that it does not suprise me that most reviewed it with disstain. Critics are not quite versed enough on this generations heroes, and visions. This movie is chock full of sight gags, verbal gags and background gags. A highly entertaining film. The DVD edition is a top notch special feature heavyweight. There is actually over a hour of alternate and deleted scenes. All in all this fine film is well worth the extra couple bucks to own on DVD.

Review: Kevin Smith is better than this. I saw this movie before I ever saw Clerks, and I immediately recognized the difference between honest writing and desperation. I think that Smith was so thrilled with the unexpected success of Clerks that he threw himself into his next project without thinking. The result: Mallrats. This movie is poorly written and poorly casted. Shannen Daugherty may have been a 90210 alumni, but that doesn't give her reason to make herself look even worse by portraying a girl who has no personality and thrives on being a bitch. She's only pushing the image that so many people believe she really possesses. Believe it or not, she's a very polite and pleasant person, but no one will figure that out watching her in this flick. Then there's Jeremy London. Blah! Cute face, no talent. Terrible line delivery and horribly mismatched with actors who actually have some talent. I'm just glad he didn't rub off on anyone and that he was never cast in another Smith film again. I think Kevin knew he made a mistake with that actor, let alone the entire film. Then we have Kevin Smith's favorites: Jason Lee. The loudest and most obnoxious character he's ever played in a Kevin Smith film. He will literally annoy you and you'll wish more than once that he'd just shut the hell up. Ben Affleck: the snooty salesman of Fashionable Male. It's not hard for Ben to play these parts, since he's a bit egotistical himself. Jason Mewes: reprising his role as Jay. Still no acting talent visible. Lastly, we have Claire Forlani as Brandy Spenning, TC's beautiful and almost ethereal girlfriend. Sorry folks, but Forlani is nothing but a pretty face. Her acting is flat and it's very hard to pay attention to her when the camera is on her. She's better off as a silent film star. Her eyes communicate more than her mouth does. Overall, this movie was a sad attempt at being funny. It's overly trivial and it's desperate. Thank God he took his time and made an impressive rebound with Chasing Amy. Here's my final word: good rental when you're bored and there's nothing to do. Don't ever rent it to laugh out loud or for the expectation of a great film. You'll be disappointed in both areas.

Summary: Jason Lee Makes The Movie!
Review: OK, we all know that "Mallrats" is no "clerks", "chasing amy" or "Dogma" BUT, it does have it's moments and in the end is worth the pick. The second installment in the New Jersey Trilogy is funny, clever and well.....some of the cast is good. JASON LEE is so funny. He's worth the price alone. And, Ok...Shannon Doherty? NO WAY! She's distracting and annoying. Could have been so much better. Classic line by Willum. "Brenda? " BUT, in the end...it's funny and fun. Jay and Silent Bob? ALWAYS A PLEASURE. And, if nothing else, it's got a hilarious early performance by Ben Affleck. Enough Said!

Summary: Who The Hell Is Walt Flanagan?
Review: This is one of those movies that makes you happy you own a DVD player, the jump in audio and and video quality isn't really that important-it is nice though. Mallrats is for fans only so anyone buying this already likes the movie and is buying this for the extras. Bearing that in mind you're getting the funniest commentary track out there, its actually funnier than the movie itself. The extra scenes are interesting, aside from a couple of great Jason Lee lines they are nothing special except as insight into the evolution of the film. Funny movie, hilarious DVD. This is worth it solely for the commentary and the extra scenes and interviews just make a good thing better.

Summary: A True Cult Classic and Perhaps the BEST of rentable Smith
Review: I first learned of Kevin Smith's works through word of mouth and decided that, over the course of several weekends I would rent all of his films and view them. I had already seen the hilarious Jay and Silent Bob spots on MTV and read about his comic book successes writing for DAREDEVIL, and even followed the growing hype and controversy surrounding DOGMA. I watched Clerks and throughly enjoyed it. Next I watched Mallrats and was enthralled. His comic book references (including a lengthy cameo by the one-and-only Stan Lee) were excellent and exceptionally well-placed and the various other gags, while sophomoric, were the best I've seen in a recent comedy. Though Clerks was ground-breaking and Chasing Amy was thought provoking (it was a drama-comedy and well worth watching, splicing a painful relationship film with hefty doses of offbeat laughs) I though Mallrats was Smith at his best, combining wacky plotlines and livable characters with a realistic bent of comedy and plot fixing. Bravo, and I can't wait for the next installment!

Summary: Funniest movie of all time
Review: The first time I laughed the whole way through, and I still do every time I see it. Brodie was hilarious, even just his facial expressions. The movie flows so well; it's just funny scenes one after the other. Also, they speak very intelligently, like in Dawson's Creek, except, unlike Dawson's Creek, it sounds natural. I don't think even English professors talk like they do in Dawson's Creek. In conclusion, Dawson's Creek sucks, but SEE MALLRATS. (NOW)

Summary: Come for the Movie, Stay for the Pop Culture References
Review: This is the quintessential 90s teen comedy, even though it's pretty much aimed at Gen-Xers. Smith, whose work I admire greatly, really did the motion picture industry credit when he started at View Askew. I love the characters he creates, and his dialogue is brilliant (I wish I could write like he does!) Jason Lee's performance is brilliant, and you should check out his even better performance in Chasing Amy. But, aside from the movie's story and characters (this movie is definately a cult classic and deserved more critical respect!) the pop culture references are brilliant. I'm a rabid comic book fan, and his references to so many of the classic characters (including Silent Bob's Batman impression) had me saying "Brilliant! Absolutely Brilliant!" all through the film (it's not a movie, it's a film!). His Star Wars references are the best (Silent Bob's Yoda quote at the end was well timed and well thought. Smith should act more in other roles, though Silent Bob's near guru-status for the characters is a good idea), but there are even more obscure references that the pop culture world would benefit from. For instance, the security guard at the mall is named LaForse and wears a straw politician's hat called a skimmer. Now, if you're a movie buff, you'll recall a film entitled Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, where the lovable duo are hounded and harried by an obsessed (but rarely glimpsed) lawman named LaForse who wears a straw politician's hat called a skimmer. Brilliant director, this Smith!

Summary: A hearty hello to Brad Preston below!
Review: I'm one of his friends, and while I haven't exactly seen MALLRATS countless times (only two) he's right in saying you can't beat a Kevin Smith movie. This is the KS movie which introduced me to Jason Lee (Brodie), a performer with talent up the wazzu, and helped put CLERKS into perspective, allowing us to see the astral field Smith is performing off of. Smith operates with delightful dialogue- think DAWSON'S CREEK, but with actual talent- that will have you screaming with hysteria. And of course, there's always Jay and Silent Bob. You can't miss with Jason Mewes and Smith as their cultish figures. And Ethan Suplee rocks as a guy trying to get a Magic Eye. If you want deep, stirring emotional movie, go rent LEAVING LAS VEGAS or something. If you want relaxing humor, go for MALLRATS. And CLERKS. CHASING AMY. And DOGMA (the best of the four). Regarding Kevin Smith: "The force is strong with this one."

Review: I dont know what the so call critics are talking about either because this film rocked! When you watch a movie like mallrats (a light hearted comedy) who cares about character development and how deep the plot is! You dont have to bust your brains over a movie like this...just enjoy!

Review: I dont know what the critics are talking about, because Mallrats was amazing. It has got to be one of my favorite movies...ever. Mallrats is funny from start to finish, and although chilish at times, it was really good. I own this movie, and I watch it all the time. Something I rarely do.
