Review: I watched the trailer for this film and was expecting lot of action. Unfortunatley, there were only two real action scenes. The rest of the film is filled with a rather boring and generic plot--fighting the Italian mob, trying to take back the business, etc. etc. Chow-Yun Fat's character seems confused--at times he's quite tough and at others sentimental and other times simply stupid. Also, the film's first action sequence is wonderful but the second get boring after a while and is dull.

Summary: Doubles the Body count!!!
Review: John Woo doubles the body count in this ultra-violent and explosive sequel that surpasses the original. It starts out that Mark Gor (who was killed-off in the original) has a twin brother living in New York owning a chinese restaraunt and is in troble with Italian mob and shelters a fomer hong kong traid boss on the ledge of insanity who was ran out of the hong kong traid mob now run by a more agressive leadership. Mark returns to hong kong teams up with Kit and Ho and together take down the traid mob that is now in partnership with the irish and italian mob. Sertain elements from ABT2 was inspired by Quentin Tarrantino who use the black suite-white coller shirt-and black tie for the "Reservior Dogs". The final shoot-out in the manchent is one of the goriest and blooodist final gunfights ever put on film, as the three main characters use 9mm berettas,shoot-guns,mack-10s and samuri sward againts manchent full of no more of 100 mobsters with a thousand bullets comming from every direction, which makes Scarface and The Reservior Dogs on steriods. The origanl ABT was about brotherhood,loyalty and honor, ABT 2 his about betryal and revenge. the first of the film is a bit dull but stars to improve by the second half. John Woo does a heck off a good job puting gun fight scenes together and making them into classics. Highly Recommed for True Woo fans

Summary: Not Woo's best, but still great!
Review: John Woo is without a doubt one of the most incredible directors ever to have created a movie. His movies are shot with a style that no other director has. But it seems that he rushed his way through this film, but that's not to say it's not brilliant. The ending is fantastic, but it is a little bit to short, compared to his other epics like, "Hardboiled", and "The Killer". the story isn't to be taken to seriously, and was ment to be a parody of his earlier gangstar movie, "A Better Tomorrow". If you get a chance see it, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Review: John Woo's best films are not just about beautifully choreographed violence. They have themes -- frienship, loyalty, duty -- that are as strong as those of an old-time samurai picture. ABT2 does NOT have any of those, and that's why it's bad. I have re-watched this film a few times, for a brainless thrill. But the next time you read a review saying how "awesome" this film is, keep in mind that Woo is never aiming for "awesome" violence. In fact, he says he hates violence, and puts it in his films when it's subordinate to the themes he wants to get across. The best thing about this film is that Tsui Hark (who produced) wanted Woo to make it even more violent, and Woo declined. This led to Woo breaking away from Hark totally when he made "The Killer" -- now there's a picture that has everything ABT2 is begging for.

Review: Now don't get me wrong, John Woo is one of my favorite filmmakers. Yet, A Better Tomorrow 2 is his worst film. When such formulaic action and melodrama goes completely wrong, you get the monstrocity that is this film. This is the single most unbalanced, excessively violent, and meaningless piece of junk I've ever layed eyes on.

Summary: A bloody mess, and bloody great
Review: RE: IF YOU LOVE THIS FILM, YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT (review posted below). I know that maestro Woo is fond of saying "I hate violence" and claiming that his movies are anti-violence, etc. This is a fine illustration of the maxim about trusting an artist's work rather than his words. Whatever his stated feelings about (real-world) violence, Johnny-Boy loves the thrill of (fictional) violence for its own sake, and that fact is written all over his movies. He glorifies it far more than he critiques it. The gore and destruction are too ecstatic and aestheticized for any other honest interpretation. So let's cut the hooey about that. You're absolutely right, though, about this: there's more than carnage to Woo's work, this movie included. I would submit that ABTII is ten times more emotionally involving than most movies of its type, and funny to boot. And I don't need to repeat what others have said about the visuals and that jaw-dropping climax. Is it coherent? No, but neither are "Bullet in the Head" or "Hard-Boiled," really; coherence has never been Woo's strong suit, or that of HK cinema in general. Is it deep? Course not. But it's got the flair and the balls to make up for both deficiencies.

Review: The best is Hard Boiled, the second best is The Killer, so you get the idea how good this movie is. The final battle in the mansion is amazing, making me wanna kill everyone I don't like. Like the movie says, for everything we do, there is always payback, and good people will always receive good payback.
