Summary: The Best!
Review: I first saw this movie when I was 7, and have been in love with it ever since. I'm now 14 and have read all of Tom Clancy's books. I've seen both the VHS and DVD versions, and DVD is much clearer in picture and sound, especially for this movie. The underwater special effects and sound effects make you feel like you're actually there. I highly recommend this movie to everbody, whether they're old enough to remember the Cold War or not!

Summary: The Best Movie ever done with a Tom Clancy book.
Review: The Hunt For Red October is a complex/exciting film. The two main charceters; Captain Marko Ramius (Sean Connery) and Jack Ryan (Alec Badwin) are perfectly cast, as the Russian captain of the missile submarine Red October and the CIA operative who must contact him before the Russian and American fleets close in. Complex story combined with support performances by Sam Neil, James Earl Jones, and Scott Glen, make this an epic movie. Screenplay by Larry Ferguson and Donald Stewart.Based on the novel by Tom Clancy.Directed by John McTiernan. Music by Basil Poledouris. Some Visual Effects by Industrail Light and Magic.

Summary: A Real Winner, Suspenseful And Smart!
Review: Probably the best Jack Ryan movie. This film is action-packed and with an excellent plot that doesn't insult the viewer's intelligence, a little complicated at times but makes up with character driven action. This movie also has Sean Connery, which is a valuable thing in action movies, he delivers a credible performance and his screen prensence helps a lot. Alec Baldwin's Jack Ryan is more by-the-book than Harrison Ford's Jack Ryan, it's hard to argue which one is better, but let's just say that Alec Baldwin delivers the goods here. Suspenseful and well paced. Sam Neill, James Earl Jones and Scott Glenn are also great in support. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 7!

Summary: great movie, annoying DVD error
Review: This is a great movie, lots of action, solid plot. Doesn't match the book of course, but how could any Clancy book be condensed into a 2 hour movie? Only complaint is the annoying error others have noticed: about a 3 second pause between a scene in engineering on Red October and the next scene with the Russian ambassador. Paramount definitely did a weak job with the DVD. One skip doesn't detract from an otherwise solid movie though.

Summary: Finest of the Clancy adaptations
Review: Definitely the best filmed Tom Clancy adaptation and one of Connery's best roles since Bond. As an ex-Navy sailor, I may be partial to this film, but its made with incredible skill and artistry. A career high for John McTiernan (Die Hard, The 13th Warrior) whose never directed a better film before or since. Yes, I agree that the DVD picture quality is less than stellar but the sound is first-rate. Hopefully, Paramount has a spruced up special edition waiting in the wings for future release.

Summary: Best sub drama of all times
Review: This movie is the best sub movie of all times. Sean Connery plays Captian marko Ramius who intends to defect. Alec Baldiwn plays CIA agent Jack Ryan who goes on the hunt for the Red October. Finnaly Scott Glenn gives an excellent secondry perfomence as Capt. Mancuso of the USS dallas. All in all this is a great movie for any one who likes sub movies.

Summary: Widescreen is Best!
Review: Excellent film when viewed in this format. Lives up to its rating
