Summary: Suspenseful, dramatic, and Seriously Under appreciated
Review: One of the most realistic depictions of childhood rage and violence, Pups is an incredible movie so powerful that it was almost completely censored from the world. Released to theatres only two days before the tragic Columbine shooting, Pups was hidden from the world due to its content. Young Stevie (Cameron Van Hoy) finds a gun hidden in his mother's closet and, along with his girlfriend Rocky (Mischa Barton), decides to rob a bank, only to have the police show up, forcing Stevie to take several hostages. Burt Reynolds gives an awsome preformance as Bender, an FBI hostage negotiator. Because of the age of the main characters, the movie took a hard hit when Columbine occured. Disappointing to say the least, I feel this film is the victim of selective discrimination, and other films with many more similarities to Columbine than Pups have been allowed to stay in theatres and have been viewed by many. Light It Up tells the story of several students who pull out guns and take over thier school hostage. Almost identical to Columbine, this movie was able to stay in theatres without discrimination. David E. Kelley's show Boston Public recently aired an episode in which a student brings a gun to school. This show was on TV, given only a TV-14 rating, and was almost exactly the same as Columbine (which is even mentioned in the episode). I am not saying Boston Public and Light it Up should not have been displayed, but quite the opposite. Both Boston Public and Light it Up showed accurate depictions of youth violence ans should be seen by the public as an educator, hopefully decreasing youth violence. Pups deserves the same publication as both Boston Public and Light it Up, because it too can be used to educate and eventually prevent youth violence. The writing is terrific, the acting is phenominal, the suspense is real, and the ending is the best that I have ever seen. Pups is a great movie and should be appreciated and viewed by all. My best to Ash (producer, writer, and director) and his great accomplishment in accurately displaying the fear of child violence, the very thing that hid his masterpiece of cinematography.

Summary: Stay Away
Review: One of the worst, if not the worst movie ever. There are so many things wrong with this movie, it's almost funny. The two teenage bankrobbers are never developed as sympathetic characters. Instead we are given a crowd and MTV's Kurt Loder that act sympathetic toward them and we're supposed to be sympathetic too. One problem--we hate them. I found myself cheering when the boy got shot in the end.
Part of this disaffection is the result of the agonizing pacing of this movie--it begins to seem as though you are watching the same scene over and over and over as the boy yet again gets mad and waves the gun or they yet again show home movies of him at his birthday party. zzzzzz
Part of it is also the acting. The boy plays his part believably (although again, he simply does the same things over and over and over). Mischa Barton, the more experienced of the two actors, does a terrible job. I haven't seen lines so forced and phony sounding since young Anakin in The Phantom Menace.
Then there's the believability problem. I'm sure the FBI would just let two surrendering and supposedly unarmed bankrobbers calmly walk out of the bank, stroll down the street and address their adoring fans. No...don't think so...they would've been cuffed and stuffed the second they cleared the door.
All in all this movie is only bearable if you watch it on fast forward.

Summary: This movie rocks
Review: Pups is an entertaining and what i found thrilling movie. Newcomer Cameron Van Hoy does an excellent job as the very troubled Stevie, who has been left at home by his mother who is at a seminar (?) somewhere. When he stumbles upon his mothers loaded gun he brings his girlfriend Rocky (Mischa Barton) on a crazy ride. On impulse Stevie walks into a bank and starts waving the gun around. Soon we have a hostage situation and there are cops buzzing around everywhere. Burt Reynolds does a fine job as the reasoning FBI agent. This movie is not a classic but it does have some very good moments/scenes and overall it definatly isnt bad. The constant screaming of Stevie gets a little tedious but all adds to the effect of the panic one would be feeling in such a situation. I think Mischa Barton is great in this movie, Im a huge fan of hers. The ending is sad and my mouth dropped open in shock, call me an idiot but i wasnt expecting that! Rent this movie if you're bored one day, it makes for fine viewing.

Summary: Amazing movie, definitely worth a look
Review: Some people are probably put off by this movie, since most people seem to prefer the fairy-tale world a lot of films create. You won't see any of that in "Pups". What's really unique about this film is it's similarity to reality; it gives the film an almost documentary-like feel, without taking away the emotional aspects. You can really feel for the characters-- whether you love them or hate them, this movie definitely inspires emotion. I would recommend "Pups" to anyone who isn't offended easily and who doesn't mind a movie that requires you to actually use your brain a little.

Summary: "Haunting depiction of teenager's minds"
Review: Sure, it's not A Clockwork Orange. But Pups, which premiered 48 hours before the infamous Columbine shooting, is a haunting depiction of teenager's minds.

The summary is pretty simple: Cameron Van Hoy's character finds a gun in his house and he and his girlfriend, played by the Sixth Sense's Mischa Barton, go rob a bank-- hostages and all.

It has received rave reviews, and I definitely agree this movie is an incredibly good film. The cast and storyline are excellent. Of course, I would not recommend it for children, even if the stars are teenagers themselves.

Summary: if you like....
Review: This is a cool movie, Mischa Barton as Rocky is great and her boyfriend Stevie is alright. This is just one of those movies that just kickass. You'll enjoy it if you've seen Mischa's movies Lost and Delirious and Lawn Dogs as well as her small part in Tart.

The ending has a small suprise if you pay close attention to the beggining. There's also some great hostages my favorite was Joy who decided to smoke a joint while being held hostage

Summary: The kind of movie that'll give you pinkeye.
Review: This is part of the reason good movies are hard to come by. Why bother trying to create a film with plot and character development when you can produce garbage like this without even trying? A couple of kids find guns and see a bank.
"Hey, let's rob that bank."
"Okay."
Wow, riveting stuff, Hemingway.

Whoever thinks that this produces an honest insight into the youth of America is partially correct; The average American kid is as dumb as a post and Ash proves it here. Bravo. Just because dereanged kids occasionally shoot up schools and people doesn't mean that's the status quo for every pre-pubescent child in this country. Don't mistake bad writing for "realism." Also, to those who say it's there for shock value, they're right, I'm shocked I sat through it.

And yes, you can complain about the legnth of a film if it as bad as this one. Every excrutiating minute of this 103-minute pile feels like sheer torture. In order to simulate the Pups experience, gather a couple friends around and scream the F-word at each other for roughly an hour and a half and you've almost performed 80% of the film!

Thank god at least one of the kids gets what he deserves, I think you know what I mean. What I hated more was the Kurt Loder footage at the end, desperately trying to make it seem like this movie was trying to say something. Nice try, all that was accomplished was showing that stupid kids could lift firearms and scream.

Avoid this movie unless you're into that whole "pain is pleasure" thing.

One other question, why does Stevie have a New York accent and Rocky sounds half like a Valley girl?
