Summary: Dancing with Dragonflies
Review: This tops the worst film I have seen this year. While my choices of movies at the theater where only Dragonfly and Scorpion King, I unfortunately choose the former. My fiancé actually said she would rather see the Scorpion King, but I convinced her that Dragonfly didn't seem as formulaic and probably had better acting.
Boy, were we wrong. For my fiancé and I this was more of a comedy then a drama. Every few minutes in the film I could hear her laughing or saying "Whatever", but it wasn't until the very ending that it turned into a full-blown hoot-n-nanny. I could not believe the closing scene, talk about Hallmark endings this one takes the cake. It felt more like an AT&T commercial including the crescendoing emotional music and the slow motion close up playing in the leaves. No I am not kidding.
This film started out with a "Sixth Sense" feeling with spooky kids waking up from near-death experiences. Then though in a little "Poltergeist" with the "go to the rainbow, go to the rainbow" message. Stir in a little "Twin Peaks" with a mysterious midget saying the token cryptic odd things. To end in full cheese of a "Not with out My Daughter" scene with native villagers.
I was surprised that it was in the theater. It seemed more like a direct-to-video type movie; you know the kind those Hallmark films. It was made for the Life Time channel.
It always seems to happen, someone makes "Sixth Sense" then 3 or 4 cheesy clones come out later. It happens to any and every popular movie in the U.S.
The only bonus was Linda Hunt playing the spooky midget nun on an "In Search of..." mission for children's near-death experiences. Unfortunately her role is cut short and the spooky moments are few and far between and the movie slips back into the Kevin Costner pity party.
Kevin Costner's formula is growing old: Man vs. Woman, anger and teary moments follow, then a predictable resolution. At least "Water World" had some entertaining action and "Dances with Wolves" had some excellent cinematography. This one had only the feeling of embarrassment.
You will either love it or hate it; there are no middle ground ratings on this one.
Go see it if you love Kevin Costner movies with predictable plots, no character development, and every five minutes is an over-the-top want-a-be Oscar tear jerky scene.
Don't go see it for the same reasons.
By the way Dragonflies have nothing to do with this movie.

Summary: Dance's With Ghosts!
Review: This movie really couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. ...
This movie would never have been made if Costner hadn't twisted some elbows and reduced his fee and made a pack with the devil.
It tries so hard to be a tearjerker with some shocking moments. Like when the kid wakes up or the dead man speaking scene.
Here is a nutshell of this... movie:
...Wife has to go save the children, while pregnant, in some 3rd world country. Husband stays because work is more important. She dies in third world country from an accident. Husband starts to go crazy and can't live with out her. Husband sees and hears her ghost. The children that she used to take care of in the child's ward, while having near death experiences, draw pictures and tell husband to go to the rainbow.
To sum it up:
Sappy with out the emotional connection to the characters, weak plot with loose ends, B-rated shock scenes, and no character development.
Go see this if you think that Linda Hunt as a creepy nun in search of children with after life experiences is your idea of entertainment. ...

Summary: Dragonfly
Review: This is based on the film of course. Being passionate about "Dragonflies" I was very curious about the role that they would portray in the movie. Firstly, based on the trailers I saw, I feared that they were being shown as something "evil", and that made me resent the movie before I'd seen it. Secondly, Mr. Costner, is not one of my favourite actors.
The story itself was very good, and without giving away the ending, I can truthfully say, that it held my interest through out. If the director would have selected say, William Petersen or Mel Gibson as the star, I would have liked it much better.
But I want to definately add it to my DVD collection. And I wish that I could purchase the paperweight and mobile for my home.

Review: As this movie has not yet been released on DVD, I can't comment on the "extras" that are always included, but I did go see the movie in the theaters. It was EXCELLENT!! As soon as I left the theater, I was commenting that this one would be added to my video collection as soon as it was released. I am counting the days!

Summary: Nice ending, but that can't make up for everything else.
Review: Kevin Costner is a grieving widower who believes his deceased wife is trying to contact him. Supernatural drama from the director of Patch Adams (Gah!) is pretty dull and silly in execution, with some good ideas but mostly poorly executed. The finale is surprisingly pretty good, with a twist ending that actually works, but can't make up for everything else that's so lackluster. Costner's okay here, acting the same way he usually does in all his films.

Summary: Pay no attention to the critics reviews!
Review: They spent more time talking about what the movie ISN'T than what it IS. Who decided it should be billed as a thriller? What's the big deal about that anyway? Whether it is or not depends on the perception of the viewer. Ignore the critics! Give this wonderful movie a chance and make up your own mind.
There were some moments that gave me goose bumps, but I didn't go expecting or even wanting to be scared witless. I really expected and found it to be a story of love, loss, and courage in the face of amazing possibilities and improbabilities. Because I know from his prior films that Kevin Costner chooses movies whose characters and storylines he believes in, I knew I'd like this one, too. The question of life after death is one that all of us wonder about. This movie handles the subject well. I drove over 100 miles round-trip to see it as I was out of town when it was showing locally. It was well worth every mile and every penny. Kevin is very believable as the grief-numbed widower trying to come to terms with his loss, a task made even more difficult by the fact that he and Emily parted in disagreement over whether or not she should even go because of her pregnancy. His anger at her going anyway is compounded by guilt at her death because he didn't have a chance to mend the breach or say goodbye. Amidst the unexplainable things that are happening around him since his wife's death, Joe is compelled by forces he doesn't understand to re-evaluate his non-belief in an after-life. His inner conflicts make it all the more difficult for him to know what to believe or what to do. In the end, he follows his heart. Joe's love for Emily is the driving force behind his search and the driving force behind the story. His faith in that love leads him to go to great lengths to explore its possibilities. It takes him to unlikely places and results in an amazing discovery that makes his search extraordinarily worthwhile. This movie made me think, and Kevin's outstanding performance more than compensates for the relatively minor shortcomings in the development of the story, which would perhaps have played better had it been "fleshed out" a bit more fully. In any case, sit back, pay attention, and enjoy! Dragonfly is a Kevin Costner must see, feel good movie that will stand the test of time and get even better each time you see it.

Review: Although this isn't a smash hit for Costner, I thought it was a touching and sometimes scary little movie. The ending threw me. I have no idea why I didn't see it coming but I didn't. I would say it was worth the price but bring your own popcorn and snacks.

Summary: A truly moving film
Review: If you've ever lost anyone you love, this film is a must see. Kevin Costner does an incredibly wonderful and emotionally filled turn in this piece. Linda Hunt and Cathy Bates are fantastic as well. It's a two Kleenex box kind of flick, but worth every minute of it. The ending is amazing and renews my faith that Hollywood still can produce an exceptional piece devoid of violence and sex. "Dragonfly" is an amazing movie that I personally can not recommend highly enough.
