Summary: GOOD CHEMISTRY & CINEMATOGRAPHY WASTED ON INSIPID 'PLOT'
Review: Was this a western? Number of Mexican hats per capita would suggest so. Was it a romantic film with flaring passions gone awry? The sizzling chemistry between Stowe and Costner had me foxed. Was this a mafia theme with vengeful retributions? Quinn is convincing as a jilted, betrayed, and thus ferocious husband, so I half-expected a thrilling picture. Even Tony Scott's cinematography is servicable. Sadly, my refrigerator has expired eggs that stink lesser than the script for this utterly insipid dreck.

Summary: Wow! I would never let myself get into this position...
Review: What a great film. It starts off slow, but soon takes off. Costner plays his role to perfection. Quinn as the aging Mexican gangster is also magnificent.

Costner is a newly retired Airforce pilot. He has a cabin in the mountains of Mexico that he intends to retire to. Also in Mexico is a very close friend (Quinn). While on his way to his cabin, he decides to stop by and see his frienf.

The movie does not go into too much detail about how/why they are friends. It leads you to believe that Costner at some time in the past saved Quinn's life during a hunting trip.

Quinn is an aging Mexican gangster. Actively involved in politics (behind the scenes). He also has a wife that is half his age. She wants children, Quinn does not. She seeks refuge in the arms of Costner. As can be expected, Quinn finds out what is going on. He is ruthless in his pursuit of revenge. However, uncharacteristically, he does not kill the two. He has Costner beat nearly to death and left in the desert. The girl is slashed across the face and dropped off at a Mexican bordello where the owner is told to keep her drugged up.

This is where the real story starts. The introduction of the characters and the opening of the real story take about 40 minutes. It's a little slow, but the rest of the film is worth the wait.

Summary: Both Madeline Stowe and Kevin Costner are perfectly casted.
Review: When I review movies that I,ve seen, besides casting, techniques, location, etc. the most important is how the actor and actress deeply search their internal passion. Madeline Stowe and Kevin Costner have been incredible for this difficult technique. It seems that they have been in this situation (deeply romantic, lost, passionate, affectionate, and true love) together. They have played a real expression for that environment. It's like that "YOU COULD TAKE MY BODY BUT YOU CANT TAKE MY SOUL COZ IT BELONGS TO THE MAN THAT I LOVE". A remote, dry, windy, and Mexican coloured places are perfect for this great interesting story. For me, Madeline Stowe has played the best internally expressed role in this movie. Until this NOV 1998, I rated her the most outstanding and impressive actress of all time. There is nothing to do with beautiful face but the beautifulness comes from the inside. Congratulation Madeline Stowe-Just return to your innocence and you'll find your true colour. Believe me that you are the best.-ZAKI, PSYCHO TOMORROW..1998.
