Review: This is by far the worst Tony Scott film ever made. God rest Anthony Quinn but no offense. I can really see why it was not a successful movie. It was very Low budget. Don Simpson and Jerry Bruchiemer should of produced this movie and it might of been better.

Review: This is one of my favorite Kostner movies. It is a grisly tale, but interesting and suspenseful. It contains Kostner's hottest love scenes to date (I haven't seen Open Range yet).
The weakness of this movie is the directing...very uneven. But it didn't spoil the movie for me. It is great. A friend of mine said when she saw it that it made her want to go out and buy a jeep. Those who have seen it will understand.

Review: This movie failed miserably in the box-office? Why? Because people couldn't understand its artistic merits? Its deep ideas? No. It failed just because the public is not so dumb as the executives think. The plot here is ridiculous, cheap.

Summary: Guilty Pleasures
Review: This movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I was one of the few who enjoyed it when it was first released. I was aware of the Jim Harrison novella and Kevin Costner still hadn't squandered his talent. I had a hard time explaining why it intrigued me until I realized that it was a true romance. Medieval in concept, merely updated. Costner is the knight-errant, Anthony Quinn the evil baron who has locked Costner's true love, Madeleine Stowe, away in a 'tower'. Though it's not as heart wrenching as I thought as a younger man, there is enough mystery in some of the images to hold my attention.
And then, there's Madeleine Stowe, a true raven-haired beauty. Enough to stir the imagination of even an aging boomer.

Summary: Very moving
Review: This movie is deep. I'm not normally the type of person who weeps over tragic endings but the end of "Revenge" actually moved me so much that I cried. I really did expect the normal "happily ever" ending like in most movies. I found myself getting really emotionally involved. You can identify with the way the two main characters feel about each other even though they know that by falling in love they are betraying Tibby. Stowe and Cosner are superb I usually find Cosner as bit deadpan but he's excellent as Jay. Stowe's beauty and lovely tender brown eyes help add to the sad, tragic quality of the character she's portraying. People who find romances corny will still be able to watch the movie because there's alot more to it than "boy meets girl". If you are a hopeless romantic you'll enjoy the movie but get your tissues out first.

Summary: Powerful, touching, suspense!
Review: This movie is one of my favorites...one I don't mind seeing again and again. It has mystery, suspense, love, etc. all wrapped into one movie. The musical score is haunting and lovely and inspiring and touching. I was so sad to not see info on a soundtrack in the film's credits, tried getting a soundtrack here, but was told one was not available. Recently I purchased the video...and the video indicated the soundtrack IS available on Silva Screen Records in the UK. Just received the CD ... Had to have it shipped from the UK to USA, but it's worth it. I know other reviewer mentioned wishing there was a soundtrack, so hope this is helpful to you. Great movie!!!

Review: This movie shatters the illusions that keep most people from digging too deeply into their souls. Not too many people can see themselves in the roles played by these characters, but with a little imagination, I could see it happening to myself. A highly thought provoking movie.

Summary: One of the best movies of all time!
Review: To me this is one of the greatest movies ever. Its on my top 10 list. It is a film that you cant watch one time and decide. It is a film that grows on you. I think its one of the greatest love stories ever. Kevin Costner's performance was very underrated and I think this is one of his better movies. Anthony Quinn's "I want you to see what happens to whores" line is classic. This is a must own for anyone who is tired of the same old romantic movies.

Summary: excellent, violent and uncompromising
Review: Tony Scott's "Revenge" is an excellent film, violent and uncompromising. It begins like a hackneyed version of "Top Gun" but once Kevin Costner gets to Mexico it becomes a mesmerizing and beautifully realized tale of blood and passion. Kevin Costner has rarely been so good. Madeleine Stowe not only looks and acts wonderfully but is fully convincing down to the accent of an upper class Mexican trophy wife. Anthony Quinn's performance was probably the last great one of a long and outstanding career. Even the smaller roles are beautifully rendered: Miguel Ferrer and a really young and touching John Leguizamo, Joaquin Martinez, Sally Kirkland, and a beautifully wrinkled actress who plays the Mexican curandera. I only wish that the great Tomas Milian ("Traffic," "Havana") had gotten more screen time. This DVD cries out for a commentary by Jim Harrison and Scott.

Summary: The last five minutes are the best
Review: Unlike most of Kevin Costner's other movies, Revenge demonstrates that he can truly touch audiences with authentic emotional output. The final five minutes of this movie are so genuinely real, so demonstrative of redemption and despair, that one wonders why Costner can't reproduce this in some of his other movies. Maybe it's the musical score (which, depressingly, was never made into a soundtrack). Perhaps it's Stowe's final "I love you," or perhaps it's the look on Costner's face while he holds her lifeless body in his arms. All I know is, I've rarely beheld such an emotional scene in any other movie. Yes, the movie is violent. But the violence is not senseless. It has purpose, and demonstrates the danger of crossing the barriers of fidelity.

One other scene stands out in my mind. When Costner and Stowe try to make lemonade in his bungalow, the sexual tension is unbelievably real.

One of my all-time favorite movies.
