Summary: The Suspence was Killing Me
Review: I don't know what to say. It was great, I never knew what to predict what was going to happen next. He really knew how to hold a hostage. I was waiting for him to kill some one. I didn't know if he was bluffing or he was actually going to kill some one.

Summary: Great movie lot of action and very good story plot
Review: I like every thing about this movie and I don't say that very often. I recommend this movie to people who like to see a good action story.

Summary: SPACEY GOOD, JACKSON BAD
Review: A predictable but entertaining movie with a great performance by Kevin Spacey in a conventional and cliched thriller. The first half is awful, but once Sam Jackson takes Internal Affairs office hostage and Spacey enters the film, it takes flight. Samuel L. Jackson gives a horrible performance, though (watch him cry at the funeral and his "I'm off that bus" speech). The commentary given in the Amazon reiview is false; the DVD wasn't released with it.

Summary: Spacey and Jackson make great chemistry despite...
Review: ...much of the film, especially the cliche'd beginning and tacked-on ending, fizzling direly. Although well-acted, the movie's plot was quite thin and the ending was predictable and rather expedient. Samuel L. Jackson and his "negotiator" counterpart Kevin Spacey are extremely talented actors who did the best they could with the tame but (to give the writer the benefit of the doubt) otherwise well-written script. But their talents could have served a greater capacity if only for the lack of cheap "cops and bad-guys" cliches added on at seemingly the last minute. Starting off as adversaries, they end up making a great team, especially with Spacey, normally mild-mannered in his acting portrayals, playing the part of a hardline tough guy. Worth a watch but not an Oscar winner.

Summary: Finally Something Fresh
Review: I saw this film twice this summer, and it never ceased to amaze me. In an average summer, we don't get to see to see two such extraordinary actors (Samuel L. Jackson & Kevin Spacey) go head to head. It serves up a lot of action and thrills, with plenty of smarts to match. This film is definitely a "must see" on my list.

Summary: Keeps you guessing, an original.
Review: Great movie. Excellent job of making you think. One of those movies that if you like not knowing exactly what's going to happen, but at the same time it's believable, (they don't try to trick you by going way off into left field). This was a great movie, definetly one for the library.

Summary: nail-biting,tension filled keg of dynamite!
Review: the above reviewers are nit-picking! i rented it first on vhs and was not expecting too much, but was i surprised! samuel jackson and kevin spacey were brilliant in this explosive edge of your seat thriller! i bit off half my nails watching it! on dvd, it really knocks your socks off. i strongly recommend this dvd to everyone that enjoys good acting and an even better action flick with some brains. the 5.1 digital sound is really put to a test here. i loved it and feel it was one of the best films of this year. check out the rental charts across the country and get to a video store early for this one. it's going thru the roof. happy holidays.

Summary: Good action with many funny segments.
Review: I saw this movie in the theater. Samuel Jackson does very well in this movie. It was a movie my wife and I both enjoyed. Humor was more than we expected. I plan to buy the DVD when the price is right.

Summary: A Top-Notch Thriller!
Review: Okay, this is an action movie, but it's not your usual action movie. There are a few explosions, but only a few. The hero doesn't blast bad guys into oblivion every five seconds. That is what makes this movie so great. This is a movie that relies on wit and intelligence rather than explosions and gunfire. It doesn't insult the audiences IQ.

The great Samuel L. Jackson stars as a hostage negotiator who is framed for stealing money and murdering his partner. The equally great Kevin Spacey plays the hostage negotiator Jackson calls in to talk to after he takes hostages and tries to prove his innocence. The scenes between Jackson and Spacey are very intense as one tries to outwit the other. The late J.T. Walsh is at his creepy best as the crooked I.A.D. officer. If your looking for a smart and entertaining thriller, look not further.

Summary: Action or Cruddy
Review: The negotiator started off as a great action movie. It started off with tense music and started building up action feelings but starts to be quite predictable. Kevin Spacey plays a great negotiator and Samuel L Jackson is always good as well but the story starts to become too predictable and you almost know what will happen next. It could have been the best action movie of the year but it ends up being a real enjoyable night out. Some people may not enjoy this but I found it entertaining.
