Summary: 'Your lies are old.....but you tell them pretty well.'
Review: Destined to be a cult classic U turn has to be the finest 'non conformist' movie of recent years. Panned in some critical circles no doubt thanks at least partly to Oliver Stone's high profile, due for a fall persona, U turn is a warts and all no holds bar trawl through the dark underbelly of the American psyche. Stone and the writer Ridley take great pleasure in subverting just about every movie cliche you could think of in true Shakespearean style. The ensemble acting is masterly, Nolte coming across as a combination of Lee Marvin and Sterling Hayden with a pair of knashers (his own I think) Bugs Bunny would be proud of. Thornton hams it up hilariously. Lopez, Danes, Phoenix, Boothe, Voight all deliver in spades. Holding it all together Penn's performance is faultless. Stand out scene must go to the old lady literally blowing 'Bobbie Cooper's' lifeline into smithereens. Coupled with the classic Morricone score and you have an AIP lover driven into rapture.

Summary: [junk] that last two hours
Review: This film is too long and has too much disgusting violence, sex and gore. Oliver Stone wrote Natural Born Killers to comment on America's media fascination with violence. Its obvious from this film that he's the one with fascination with violence and enjoys putting shocking scenes on film. Mr Stone: We all know what roadkill looks like and we know vultures eat roadkill but we don't want to see it in detail. The older and better directors like Hitchcock would have made this film without all the in your face visually shocking gore, violence, sex, and constant references to incest and it would have been much better. A lot of this film could have been left on the editing room floor and reduced it to 90 minutes instead of 125. Then again, it should never have gone into production. Two thumbs up for what ?

Summary: How long can this go on?!
Review: One expects self-righteous, pretentious, holier-than-thou from Stone. What one doesn't expect is sheer, torturous boredom. This movie never ends. You'll know how it will end very soon into the movie. Unfortunately Stone feels it necessary to use the Chinese water torture on his audience and make them slowly suffer. I give it one star because I can't rate it lower and because Nolte and Billy Bob Thorton give amusing turns.

Summary: You probably won't regret it after watching it...
Review: This is a rentable, fun and entertaining black comedy. One of the few good Oliver Sone movies that doesn't really takes itself too serious. The acting of the dazziling cast (Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Claire Danes, Joaquin Phoneix and so on...) is amazing(especially Joaquin Phoneix and Nick Nolte). It's also fun to watch how our "JLo" was before becoming what she is today. well, life is strange...

Summary: Stone lets his hair down with hilarious results
Review: After several more serious-minded "message" films like "JFK" and "Natural Born Killers," the movie "U-Turn" found Oliver Stone just having his own twisted fun with the film-noir genre. And the result is a hilarious, relentless, and quite riveting thriller. Yes it is a black comedy. But it's also an epic meditation on being trapped. Superior, Arizona is a metaphor for all of life's traps, both those that are thrust upon us and those that we step into deliberately. Bobby Cooper (Sean Penn) is a scumbag, but one we can completely identify with, at least I did. For me, the most disturbing scene was where Toby N. Tucker (brilliantly played by Joaquin Phoenix) tears up Cooper's bus ticket. The reason it was disturbing is because I was completely caught up in the characters. See "U-Turn" for its sharp, incisive script by John Ridley, wonderful performances and Stone's cinematic bravura.

Summary: U Turn is as unusual as it's title
Review: I cannot understand the people who didn't enjoy this movie. I agree with the person who said that Stone was not attempting to make a serious movie here; it's just supposed to be entertaining. And it delivers. I have watched it over a dozen times and I still find it very funny and entertaining. The characters in it are diverse and probably similar to the people you would meet in a forgotten town such as Superior. Mr Penn makes a character which would be easy to not care about into one you end up rooting for towards the end. And Mr Thornton plays this mechanic which anyone who has needed car repair out of town on travels can relate to. A must see.

Summary: The Greatest Dark Comedy
Review: Many people might not be able to laugh about this film. But personally, as I love black humour, I laughed a lot of times throughout the film. And I chilled as well. And lost my breath over Jennifer Lopez who is a much better actress than you might imagine. In general, the acting is brilliant. Sean Penn being the star, the other parts are either filled out by other big names such as Nick Nolte or Clare Danes, or they are played by stereotypes.

The entire atmosphere in the film is created with unusual efficiency. Through the filming, especially the camera angles and the cutting, you get the feeling to be out there, in the middle of it all, in the unbearable heat of Arizona, in the claustrophobically psychic town of Superior.

The best thing about 'U Turn' though, is that you never know what's gonna happen next. Who's tricking who...

An absolute must-see!

Summary: Oliver Sone is a druged up hippie!!!!!
Review: The guy from Australlia who reveiwed this was right!!!!!! I think however that the first 1/2 hour was good but it just got long and boring. I like sickning movies where everybody asked me "How could you watch that trash?!?!" But this movie is how they ask me "TRASH!!!!!"
