Summary: Decent Action but Implausible for Fans of the TV Series
Review: The idea of bringing the television series Mission Impossible to the big screen seemed at once to be one a long time in finally coming and one to be viewed with some trepidation by those fans loyal to the millieu of the series.Mission Impossible does not disappoint with its action, but its plotline stands rather simply as a betrayal and vengeance formula, and worse, one rather implausible to the legions of fans of the television series. Without giving away too much of the plot, a most trusted member of the Impossible Mission Force betrays his team and country for ... money. Though the nature of the betrayer makes for a much greater indignity at his crime, it leaves fans of the series feeling as if the film simply lops off its head to begin anew, discarding the roots that made the movie itself possible. Tom Cruise still delivers an excellent performance as a slick and capable member of the IMF, and fans of action films will certainly enjoy this picture. However, if you feel more than an inkling of loyalty to the series, perhaps you should skip to the second film, which in the end has much more the feel of Mission Impossible than does this movie.

Summary: Realistic plot? Mission Impossible, indeed.
Review: This was filth. The Langley scene alone was completely unrealistic. There's no way IN HELL that Cruise and Co. would be able to trigger the fire alarm to the building, then pose as firemen and get unescorted access into classified sections of it. I'm sure the people at Langley have about two thousand safeguards against such intrusions, and at no time would uncleared civilians be allowed to roam freely up and down it's halls.
How about the woman in the break room who poisoned the guy's coffee? Do people not notice a strange face walking around the halls at CIA? Wouldn't this set off bells in a few people's heads?
There's no way it would happen. No way. And if it could happen, the Soviets would've done it decades ago before a group of four rogue hackers decided to try themselves. Oh yeah, and they just found a fire truck laying around for them to use. Complete filth. Watch "Spy Game" or "Sneakers" for more interesting plot and more realistic scenarios.

Summary: High-tech High-spy High-good
Review: This is a high-tech spy movie that is very good. Cruise puts in one of his best performances and the other actors perform excellently. There is enough variety to keep some suspense going. There is certainly enough action, without having to resort to blow up everything in sight (like some other "summer" blockbusters). The transfer to DVD is excellent and the other sound and editing are very good.

Summary: Action Packed
Review: This was a very good movie. It was a little gory and bloody but it wasn't too bad. The plot was sort of confusing but it all made sense in the end. Tom Cruise does a fantastic job playing Ethan Hunt (a secret agent that was disavowed). He had to get a disc with a list of the secret agents and deliver it to Max, in order to get... million. He gets help from another disavowed agent, Luther. Together with another man named Krieger the they break into CIA headquarters and get the NOC list. If you want to know what happens in the end you must whatch this awesome movie. (Rated PG for some intense action violence.)

Summary: Depends on your preference
Review: This is a great movie if you are a fan of action films. Cruise is good as Ethan Hunt. Jon Voigt fair as Jim Phelps. The supporting characters add to the action and the suspense is solid throughout. But if you like the TV show, this is a lousy movie. It has little spirit from the TV show and what they do to Phelps is a crime. If Hunt's character is created new for the franchise couldn't they have used another character - instead of Phelps - to play the role they designed? When you remake a television show there are certain elements that should be true to the remake - otherwise totally remake them. Putting in new characters? OK - just don't play with the believability and the make up of the old ones. Of course when a show is as old as Mission you aren't going to want the same leads playing their old characters, at least not if they are in a lead role. Voigt is not Jim Phelps - appearance: wrong; style of speech: wrong; leadership ability: wrong. This isn't to say that Mission is so sacred that it can't be changed. But if the plan is to use the popularity of an old TV show to stir interest, why insult that popularity in the manner in which they did? Dan Ackroyd used the Dragnet franchise to make a comedy years ago - but he honored the spirit of the show in doing so. The long technical moments showing Barney and Willy or some other character from TV are missing here and probably rightfully so. They could be boring on the big screen, especially if not done right - and it appears that the director and star weren't planning on doing it right. This is a star vehicle for Cruise and he handles it well. But they had no business messing with the franchise. At the least, they should have made up for it in the sequel.

Review: Twists and turns comprise the movement of this film. Action, suspense, intregue and intensity make the movie go by fast. Could Cruise be planning a series like the James Bond series? Certainly the Mission Impossible theme lends itself to a sequel. First rate film. A+

Summary: The Original, The Best¿¿.. Avoid The Sequel
Review: One of the biggest summer blockbusters of 1996, Mission Impossible opened with a lot of buzz. The movie was very successful, but audiences complained that the story was too complicated. Those people unfortunately got what they wished for with Mission Impossible 2. For my money though, the first one is the best because a movie like Mission Impossible should never have Hong Kong style martial arts...... what was Paramount thinking letting John Woo direct the sequel? Brian DePalma did a great job with this one in my opinion, and the film is just loaded with style. The cast is tremendous and the locations are amazing...... shooting in Europe really did wonders for this movie. It is always interesting when Hollywood picks horror film directors to do big budget movies...... horror film directors have to possess a great attention to detail in order to scare their viewers, and DePalma shows he's still got it with this movie. Not that this movie is scary, but DePalma's attention to detail helps him build suspense....... like in the computer vault scene. Truly an amazing film, I can watch it over and over. What I can't figure out is Paramount's logic when it comes to DVD's. They hardly ever put out special editions, and yet they charge full price for their discs. This disc is no exception as it has pretty nice audio and video, but no extras. To top it off, the video isn't even anamorphic. This movie grossed over 100 million at the box office, and Paramount can't even see fit to re-release this as a full-blown special edition? Remember all the hype around this movie in 1996? The featurettes, the interviews, the trailers...... all of those things should be on here, but they're not. I'll stick with my VHS copy until Paramount decides to get with the program and do some justice to their films.

Review: Most movies in this catagory go like this, Bad guy trys to take over or destroy something, Good guy stops Bad guy, Good guy gets girl, the end. Mission Impossible takes a very different approach, and it works!

Summary: "EXPECT THE IMPOSSIBLE!"
Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE! The first "M:I" I ever saw was "M:I-2" which I liked of course. But this movie is better as far as plotting. The second one is a straight forward action movie. This is a true espionage thriller with great acting to boot. The special effects were amazing also. The train sequence was truly a sight to behold. The scene in which Etahn Hunt(Tom Cruise) breaks into a high security CIA vault is nerve-wracking to watch. I reccomend this movie with high regards. As the theatrical trailer says "EXPECT THE IMPOSSIBLE".
