Summary: From Street Punk to Sophisticated Killer
Review: There seems to be some kind of rule that dictates that critics pan any American remake of a French film. In this case, Point of No Return moves La Femme Nikita from the eastern side of the Atlantic to the states. I'm glad they did!Bridget Fonda stars as the punk soul turned hired killer, with Gabriel Byrne as her shadowy government agent/handler who offers her a lavish lifestyle in return for becoming a cold blooded killer. Fonda handles the role with ease, keeping you off balance with her transformation from street waif to lethal sophisticate. It all makes for a fast-paced thrill ride that relies on plot twists more than car chases. Okay, so maybe it isn't a major cinematic achievement worthy of the Palme d'Or at Cannes, but it's a very watch-able, enjoyable movie!

Review: Think of everything that was good about 'La Femme Nikita', remove them all and replace them with every poor Hollywood action cliche in the book. Unwatchable.

Summary: Another descent American Action Film
Review: This film can be categorized as another good American action film. The neat thing about it is that there is no muscle bound male hero, or some major martial arts master. It is an ex-addict, cop killing, good looking Bridget Fonda. I find this film to be a good one when I am in the need of an action flick. Sure it may just be an average action movie, but watching Fonda run around killing people isn't too hard on the eyes. I found Point Of No Return quite refreshing. The DVD has a really nice menu interface. Too bad there aren't many features. A commentary would have been nice, but all we get is the trailer.

Summary: Bridget Fonda Shines!
Review: This film has a simple plot but it is credible to be a suspense-filled masterpiece. The violence though can offend some audiences. Bridget Fonda, however, delivers a credible, wonderful performance as a woman who is haunted by guilt of taking the lives of people into her own hands. Once again, Dermot Mulroney plays romantic lead to Fonda as well as Gabriel Burney who gives strong support in the film. Simple it may be, this movie belongs to Fonda who gives a sensitive performance that even drama audiences will love! It's off-beat but Bridget Fonda fans will surely love this one!

Summary: Don't waste your money -- get the original.
Review: This has *got* to be the worst remake that I've ever seen. Sure, Bridget Fonda might be cuter than Anne Parillaud, but that's the only plus I can think of. All of the subtlety is gone, some things don't make sense (why did they go for the drugstore ?) and lots of technical details are messed up (the revolver that was replaced by a semi-automatic). Harvey Keitel as unscrupulous hitman doesn't come close to the unnervingly scary performance of Jean 'Victor' Reno. And it might be my imagination, but the movie seems to have lost a lot in pace. As a movie by itself, it isn't bad. Mind you, it isn't good either. It's OK to play it with a pizza, or to have it playing in the background while you're reading e-mail. Boef bourgignon it isn't, but it's passable if you're only looking for chewing gum. Unless you are allergic to French or subtitles, I really suggest that you spend your money on Nikita by Luc Besson. As they say, there's nothing like an original.

Summary: I think it's Great!
Review: This is an American remake of Luc Besson's 1991 French Classic "La Femme Nikita" about the girl who is sentenced to die for killing a Cop, but who gets trained to be a Government Assassin. Bridget Fonda plays the role created by Anne Parillaud, very well indeed. I recommend it!

Summary: There is a point.
Review: This is not a five-star film. It may not even be as good as the French original. But that's not to say that it's bad. I very much enjoyed watching Bridget Fonda's portrayal of "Maggie for Margaret". She took the role given her and gave a good performance. I found her straight-faced tackling of the sometimes cartoonish script quite engaging. Gabriel Byrne fans already know his performances, and this one will not disappoint. Harvey Keitel's Cleaner was, while being one of the more cartoonish characters, a pleasure to watch as well. Also, don't forget Miguel Ferrer, who can currently be seen in television's "Crossing Jordan". His small role in this film is played to perfection. By far, however, the best acting comes from Anne Bancroft. When I decided to review this film, I was going to title my review, "I Never Did Mind About the Little Things" after one of her more memorable lines, but someone beat me to it. Seeing her growl (literally, I'm not joking) at Maggie in one of their training sessions is a true delight. I like Art House films as much as anyone, but this is not one of them. This is what it is, a Hollywood action movie with a sense of humor about itself. It is not High Art, nor does it aspire to be. With that in mind, give it a shot. If viewed with an open mind, there is fun to be had here.

Summary: The French version was all we needed...
Review: This knock-off, while faithfully copying the original Besson masterpiece, lacks spirit and wit. Even worse, it attempts to transpose the French context - the inimitable style and elegance, the fear of a powerful state, etc. - into an American one and it just fails pathetically. Fonda isn't bad, but the original actress was far better, as was the Victor (the "cleaner") in Jean Reno. Take Femme Nikita over it.

Summary: not good, not bad, just blah
Review: This movie isn't horrible. It's just such an unbelievably watered down, sterile carbon copy of the original that it really has no true soul, good or bad. If this 'remake' decided to go in a different direction, but failed, I would at least give it some credit for trying something new. Not the case here, as this movie tries to duplicate every detail, but ultimately comes up short in every aspect. It's the cinematic equivalent of karaoke. There are too many flaws in this movie to name, but the biggest discrepancy (at least for me) was the difference between Bridget and the original chick. The original actress had the sexiness, pizazz, and athleticism to carry the character; she was believable (as well as unbelievable!!) It would take the largest suspension-of-disbelief quotient known to man to think Bridget Fonda could actually kick somebody's butt or perform any of the stunts in the movie. If you have any self-respect as a movie-person, get the original. The subtitles actually are pretty meager, so don't worry. If you are too lazy to read subtitles, I suggest typing "Barney and Friends" into Amazon's search engine.

Review: This movie was made for people who are too lazy to read subtititles. It has no heart or true vision. Buy the original on DVD. I only gave it one star ,because I had to.
