Summary: The World is Yours
Review: One of the greatest epics ever filmed and Tony Montana is one of the greatest characters in movie history. The reason I love Al Pacino is that he literally becomes his characters and Tony is no different. The plot is extremely clever I thought. I always like when fiction is mixed with a little bit of non-fiction. Castro opening up the "flood gates" for his undesirables to come to the US actually took place. Montana and longtime friend Monolo Ray come over from Cuba as political prisoners who have criminal records. They end up escaping from a Refugee camp when they off a guy for green cards. After that they do a job for a guy named Frank Lopez who is the "Yayo" kingpin of Miami. The drug deal gone bad or the "chainsaw" scene is one of the most brutal scenes ever. Anyway, Tony goes on to get close to Lopez and becomes his right hand man. The relationship goes sour because Lopez tries to assassinate Tony for making a side deal with Alejandro Sosa, a big time Bolivian drug dealer. The scene where Tony takes the reigns from Lopez is amazing. Him sitting there with his one arm in a sling clutching a gun with his other arm is great filmmaking. Tony ends up becoming the top drug lord of Miami's streets when he teams with Sosa. The relationship goes bad when Tony botches up a job Sosa gave him to do. This all leads to the climax which is one of the greatest and bloodiest scenes in movie history. It also ranks up there with some of the great endings in movie history like Se7en for example. Of course Pacino is astounding in this role, Steven Bauer plays his boy Manolo, Michelle Pfeiffer plays Elvira, Tony's junkie wife, Robert Loggia plays Frank Lopez, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio plays Tony's sister Gina (who is one of Tony's many obsessions). The movie is a little long, but I didn't even notice it. If you love gangster flicks, Scarface, The Godfather Saga, and New Jack City are the ones to have.This is a dope movie.

Summary: BUYER'S BE AWARE!
Review: I bought this DVD because it was advertised as "The Collector's Edition". In fact it is not. After doing research on this DVD of Scarface I learned that if you are able to find the true collector's edition it would cost between $50.00 to $200.00 if not more if you are able to find a brand new one. The true collector's edition was released for a short time and was a two sided disc. One side was the movie itself, the other side was the bonus materal. All though what is being sold here by sellers does contain some bonus material, but for the most part it does not. On the original collector's edition as part of the bonus material that was included was the TV version of Scarface which was a different movie, different actors, etc. Don't be fooled by the sellers offering this DVD. The reality is that what you are paying for is an import (mainly from asian countries) Some sellers will say that the chapter insert is included, some don't. If you buy a copy that includes the insert it will even tell you about the bonus material that is on the DVD, but in fact most is not included because even the insert was a copy of the original. Don't get me wrong, the movie itself is great, but there is no point of buying this on DVD. Save yourself a few dollars and buy it on VHS if you can find it, at least you will most likely get the real deal that way, and I think the quality is better that the import that is being sold on DVD.

Summary: The 80's Never Looked So Good
Review: I really think a credible argument could be made that Scarface is the greatest American cultural development of the 1980's. Come on folks, it's the 1980's, almost nothing good came from it. Scarface is the exception however. It is extremely violent and well made, an age-old story steeped in gunfire and blood. Oh, and Al Pacino is in it.Scarface tells the tale of Tony Montana, a refugee/criminal released from Castro's prisons and sent to the holding camps of the United States. Montana is a man consumed with criminal ambition, something that even the Cuban penal system could not cure. The brutal criminal views the United States as the land of opportunity, a place where he can practice his various criminal talents. Slowly but steadily, Montana climbs the ranks of power in the South American/Florida cocaine trade, which was an absolute deviant epidemic at the time. Through an unbelievable amount of shooting and assaults, Montana rises to the top of the trade, raking in millions of dollars in narco money. Along the way, the drug kingpin has to contend with the feds, rivals, his strange attraction to his own young sister, and, worst of all, his wife, played by a feisty Michelle Pfeiffer. Successful at first, the empire begins to fall apart as Montana becomes addicted to his own product, and begins to take reckless actions, losing trust in his closest associates. Tony ends up pretty bad, but the ride is well worth the hard fall. As usual, Al Pacino takes over this movie. His character is so brutal, so dynamic, you just can't turn away. It's perfect for Pacino's landmark confrontational persona, who looks likely to either kill you or give you a hug. His movie long transformation from psychopathic criminal to psychopathic maniac is just wonderful. And, of course, the blood soaked finale, which is just insanely good. The plot does tend to meander at points, but it gets around to the good stuff in the end. Pacino overshadows the movie so much, the other characters get lost in the crowd. The only standout supporting actor is Pfeiffer, who is a clever and tired out trophy wife who throws her lot in with Montana and pays a price for her elevation. The one downside of Scarface is that is sports what is, possibly, the worst movie soundtrack ever. It is REALLY bad. Usually, however, the story is just so overwhelming, the viewer ignores the whiny electronic madness that was 80's club mix.

Review: This is one of the best Pacino movies ever. It is so tight. So many good lines, memorable scenes, and just all arround tight stuff.

Review: if u don't have this dvd then u must have been living in a cave for the past ten years. directed by the great Depalma this movie will not dissapoint those gangster movie fans out there and if somehow u don't like it give it to me and i'll keep it.

Review: This Epic Film Directed by Brian De Palma is about A cuban refugee who comes to America in the 80s in search of the American Dream. His name is Tony Montana{Al Pacino} who is accompanied by his friend from Havana Manny Ray{Steven Bauer}. Tony builds a Empire in Miamis Cocaine underworld. But in the end Tony finds that his empire is crumbling at the edges when he loses friends, Fights addiction, and protects his empire from power hungry drug dealers. This is a great film and i reccomend you see it.

Review: This is probably Al pacino's best movie of all time...Al pacino plays as Tony Montana,a bad...cuban political refugee in Miami with his partner Manny. there they kill cocaine dealers and regulate the streets of Miami. Al Pacino has his moment of fame in the movie but cocaine and all the money goes to his head. The acting is great and Michelle Phiefer plays a good role too. The dvd itself is also pretty decent its got some outakes along with the "making of Scarface" which takes you behind the scenes. This movie all together is excellent. It is out of print...but they are trying to put it back in theaters with extra scenes!! Look out for it...

Summary: One Of The Great Cult Classics
Review: Since it's release in 1983, Brian De Palma's "Scarface" has become of the definitive cult classics of American movies, it's excesses have so imprinted themselves into popular culture that it's influence can be found in everything from clothing to popular lingo ("say hello to my little friend!") to rap music and rap videos. And yet, this is not a poorly executed movie, this is a brilliantly excessive crime drama filled with the kind of stylish, gritty quality that made films like "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas" equally effective (eventhough "Scarface" probably still stands as the bloodiest, edgiest film of it's kind). The screenplay was written by Oliver Stone before he became a visceral, provocative director and during the period when he was letting go of that notorious vice known as cocaine, he hung around with real Colombian gangsters and there is a unique authenticity to the film in it's violence and scenarios that helps it paint a portrait of the darker side of the American dream. Al Pacino is merciless and unforgettable as Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant arriving on Miami's shores and ready to make big bucks and finds his answer with the world of drug trafficking. Watching the film, it is no wonder why Tony Montana has become such a potent figure in popular movie culture, he is a great character, so alluring in his perversity that the word "villain" seems too cartoonish for him. His accent is catchy and his clothes cool and colorful (Stone recently commented on how Montana's style in dress and jewelry can be seen reflected in African-American culture). The film is famous for it's scenes of violence, including a victim chained to a shower and killed with a chainsaw. Director Brian DePalma, not really known for excess gloriously lavishes in it here and films his movie with style and gusto, "Scarface" is unique because it feels like it was made with real respect for the material. Consider that you have one of Hollywood's future greatest directors writing the script and one of American film's most stylish talents directing and on top of that, an iconic actor in the lead role. Even the moody main theme is composed by none other than Giorgio Moroder. The ending is especially deliciously bloody, as if a normal shoot-out is for sissies. "Scarface" remains a potent movie because it has themes we can all relate to, we all want wealth, power and at least one beautiful woman, "Scarface" asks the question of what extremes would one go to to achieve wealth, and is it worth anything when it is dirty money?
