Summary: The Best Action Movie so far in 1999
Review: "Payback" is the best action film I've seen so far this year, in fact, it's the best of the last few years. A gripping plot and Mel Gibson's excellent portrayal of Porter make this movie come together. The only thing I can't figure out is when it takes place, everyone has pretty modern cars, but they all use pulse dial telephones?

Review: This movie has everything. Kristofferson is a great bad guy because he is so funny and you wouldn't think of him playing that role. This is some of the best acting from Mel Gibson that I've seen since the Lethal Weapon movies. The woman from the Ally show was fantastic!!! A must have. I would definately buy this movie now while it is so cheap. It's so good to see Mel Gibson in such a dark and mean role.

Summary: Meanspirited, but the plot is slick and satisfying
Review: Mel Gibson, playing sort of a villanous dark role, was very convincing. The majority of the charaters in this movie would be considered "bad", but the screenplay and Gibson's acting managed to make his character kind of an anti- hero, even though we would loath him in real life. The plot was unique and very different from other movies seen recently, which made this movie satisfying to watch.

Review: He's bad to the bone. Be sure to get the DVD because this movie is packed full of explosions and gunfights. It also contains another "let's torture Mel Gibson" scene. There's been one in Lethal Weapon, Braveheart, Conspiracy Theory, someother, I forget at the moment, and in this movie. The movie has action all throughout, and when you think it's finished...it isn't. The Asian actress from Alley McBeal is also starring as one hot S&M babe. I say pay for Payback! It's better to see him here as a tough, bad guy then as an old, wimpy, happy camper cop in Lethal Weapon 4.

Review: "Get ready to root for the bad guy." I've been a Gibson fan for years. From the Lethal Weapon series, to Braveheart, to Hamlet. So, needless to say, I had to go after reading that Mel was playing a bad guy. It's a role he naturally roles into. It's against type Mel's usually good-duy role, so that makes it more fun.It's very dark, and rather violent. Not a movie for the weak of heart.
(spoiler warning) spoiler warning From the opening scene this movie doesn't relent. He takes change from a homeless man.Lift a guys wallet, and then assumes his identity whereupon he withdraws several hundred dollars, he buys a suit, he buys 3 expsensive watches, and immediately pawns them. (spoiler over) That said the movie is just too well acted for people to say anything negative against it.
