Summary: Not for Clancy book fans
Review: If you enjoy the Tom Clancy series, this is an excellent book. However, the movie was so different as to be almost unrecognizable as a Jack Ryan story, except in name. The timeline was changed, the characters are all wrong and out of place, and the locations were different. Not sure why all of this was changed, but don't expect it to be true to the book in very many ways. But there are good special effects, and it's an entertaining movie if you haven't read the book.

Summary: Excellent, if you read the book
Review: I loved this movie, and couldn't wait to get it on dvd. but to understand the movie, you should definetly read the book. the only complaint i would have would be it goes real slow in the beginning, and a little to fast in the end. but that is how it goes in the book also.

Also, the trailer gave WAY to much away.

I recommend this DVD to anyone who is into suspenseful movies, i don't recommend watching the trailer before you watch the movie, unless you've read the book already.

Summary: Good movie, but could have been so much better.
Review: I'm a big Tom Clancy fan and I was so upset they didn't use the same villians from the book. I heard Harison Ford wanted to be politically correct and not use muslims as terrorist. Then Sept 11 happened........ thanks a lot Harison, you really called that one numb skull. I guess I'd really like this movie if I hadn't read the book. The point is, is yes, Nazi's are really bad and messed up in the head people, but you can't help but think, "there was mostly white people to be killed" if their plott would have worked and I don't think they'd want to kill white people.

Summary: The Sum of All Fears
Review: Well, after reading all the bad reviews, I thought I would write a good one. For starters this is a movie not a book. Rarely are movies as good as the book. I have not read the book yet, but I thought it was the best of the Jack Ryan movies although I liked all of Harrison Ford's films where he protrayed Jack Ryan. Morgan Freeman always gives a great performance and Ben Affleck was fine in this film as well. Its a modern day thriller that I enjoyed from start to finish. There was never a dull moment. I took film courses in college and viewed the top 10 films ever made chosen by the international film community as well as making a couple of shorts. I believe that I have a pretty good handle on American and foreign films. Im pretty critical of the films that I see but in this case I thought the film was terrific. I have also discussed this film with several of my film buff friends, and we all thought the film was good. After seeing it, I went out and purchased a copy for my collection. To the people that trashed this film, maybe you ought to take some film courses and broaden your horizons. This is a great film and I hope Affleck makes a couple more.

Summary: not so great
Review: When I first saw commercials for this movie, I thought, "Wow, I have to go see this movie now." But when I did see it, it didn't live up to my expectations. First Ben Affleck's character is racing to find out about a bomb being built, but he's too late and there goes Baltimore. Then Affleck is trying to prevent a full scale war between Russia and the US. The guy who is thought to be the enemy by the US, the Russian President, does not seem very innocent in the movie. He just looks evil. Also, I never really understood why the villain wants to cause war between the super powers, and what's with the Nazi connection? That did not make much sense. Don't even bother seeing this movie, it will only disappoint you.

Summary: Good, but doesn't beat its predecessors.
Review: If you're a fan of Clancy movies, add a star.

If you're a fan of Clancy books, subtract one.

I've read almost all of Tom Clancy's novels, and the Sum of All Fears is among my favorites. If you like the book, you may not like the movie. Much was changed. You can be the judge as to whether the changes were warranted or not.

The plot, though complex, is good. Special effects were good. Affleck portrays a different kind of Jack Ryan -- somewhat womanizing, and a little cocky. Different than what we are use to and eerily similar to James Bond. I'd rent it first.

Summary: Pulse-pounding excitement...
Review: This fourth installment of the Jack Ryan series is a departure from the previous three and serves as a prequel to the others. Actually, it's more like an alternate timeline, since "The Hunt for Red October" takes place in the late 80s and this one takes place in 2002. But no matter. This film is deliciously good with all the propor Clancy elements in tact. Jack Ryan (Ben Affleck) is an up-and-coming CIA analyst who stumbles on a plot to nuke Baltimore all too late. Morgan Freeman plays Cabot, Ryan's mentor and friend. The film never loses itself with technical jargon, something the Clancy novel does. Instead, it gives a good story about characters, governments, and mayhem on the verge of World War III. "The Sum of All Fears" is a fun movie for the military buff or Clancy fan.

Summary: Nice story but I have a few bones to pick
Review: Excellent premise here for the story however I do not think glorifying the CIA will help as this is the organization that has murdered millions. I also don't understand why the script calls Ukraine "the Ukraine". Ukraine is an independent country and should be addressed as one. Also why couldn't Affleck's character understand the two Ukrainian guards when he knows Russian fluently. Ukrainian and Russian are very closely related languages and many times they are mutually understandable. Other than that nice film so enjoy.

Summary: Wait until this movie is a dollar rental
Review: This movie was very long and drawn out, building and building for what? The climax never came, or at least was so miniscule I was left wondering, was that it? I was very disappointed that they had Morgan Freeman bow out so early too.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Worthless
Review: I know that this had to change from the book to be a film that took less than 6 hours, but they killed it. It changed from a suspense filled thinkers novel with interweaving plot lines, to a poor mans James Bond.
Ryan should be 40ish using his knowledge and strength of character to deal with an unervingly 9/11 like disaster, instead a teenage Ryan runs round looking heroic and likely getting a fatal dose of radiation foiling a plot by the new villans of Hollywood the Nazis (now that they can't pick on Arabs anymore), I'm just surprised they didn't all have English accents!
A star vehicle for Affleck it isn't worth of the Clancy title; Clancy shouldn't have sold out one of his best novels.
The worst book adaptation I have seen.
