Review: This is one of the best squels I had ever seen Phantasm ,2,Empire strikes Back(Star Wars 2),Puppet Master 2,and Halloween 2 I thought were the best squels ever,but whenn I saw this Newly Remasterd version of Jaws 2 I thought this was number 1!Four Years after the Great White Shark terrorized the small Summer resort of Amity Island,unsuspecting vacationers begin disappearing in an all-too-familar fashion.Only one man knows the truth.After killing the shark in Jaws 1,Roy Scheider repeats his role as Police Chief Brody.Now his two sons Michael and Sean are in danger of a new vistior in the water,and thier friends.Newly Remasterd,Jaws 2 contains behind the scenes footage,interviews,and deleted scenes that will scare the daylights out of you.This will keep you out of the ocean water and your pool!

Summary: A good sequel
Review: While not as thrilling or well written as the first film, this movie is still very good. Roy Scheider is back as Brody and does as fantastic a job as ever. The action in this film is about as intense as the first film, but it always seems rushed or jumbled to me and not quite as thrilling. If you like Jaws you should watch this movie too. You want be disappointed

Summary: The first and best sequel to my favorite movie of all time.
Review: Jaws 2 is a fun rollercoaster ride of a summer movie, nothing more. It certainly has been maligned by critics and fans for a variety of reasons, but the brilliant background material on this disc clearly shows the quite intelligent reasons why Zanuck/Brown went with the replicate the first movie route instead of breaking new ground. Director Jeannot Szwarc also comes across as a far more intelligent and thoughtful filmmaker than he has been given credit for, that he was able to make a film both stylistcally similiar to Jaws and yet add touches that were uniquely his own (i.e. the ride 'em cowboy POV from the shark's back, etc.) is a perfect example of that. Carl Gottlieb (collaborating screenwriter/script doctor) of the first three films shows a welcome sense of humor about both his work on and the audience reaction to this film. Certainly Jaws 2 suffers from poor creative decisions, a troubled production (the firing of the first director, countless rewrites, and the to be expected mechanical shark problems), and the fact that it was a direct follow up to a wildly succesful movie AND pop culture phenomonom almost doomed it from the start. But the movie is still well made, well acted, and the shark attack scenes are outstanding. A few may grumble that they are telegraphed far too clearly but this was an intentional approach by Szwarc. He felt that the attack scenes were primarily what the audience was there for, to see people get eaten by the shark. The cat and mouse games of the first film would only irritate them, or so he believed at the time. All in all I think this was the best they could do at the time and the movie is well worth watching. It's frothy summer movie fun that, with the exception of the attack scenes, is almost easy to forget (which makes repeated viewings a lot easier). Jaws 2 is not a great movie, but neither is it a bad one.

Summary: This film works and the backstage material is great
Review: I was six when I first saw the original "Jaws" in the theatre, so I saw "Jaws 2" in its theatrical release at the far more mature age of nine. At the time, I really liked this sequel more. I don't feel this way now, but my reasoning wasn't bad for a pre-adolescent: the shark scenes are complicated and beautifully staged (especially the first attack on the catamarans), Roy Scheider's performance fleshes out even more depth of his character, and John Williams' score is a masterpiece. ...but of course it's not better than the original. A few thoughts: the original has always received all the accolades, and then all of the coverage (a la interviews, behind the scenes info, etc.). I love all that this DVD has to offer: the documentary brings in Zanuck & Brown (not surprisingly, both very smart and articulate), Joe Alves, Carl Gottlieb, and director Jeannot Szwarc. (I do wish that Scheider had participated.) As a theatrical actor, director, and teacher of theatre, I couldn't get enough of all that those connected with the film offered. Szwarc particularly impressed me; some have criticized his direction of the film as a Spielberg ..., but he demonstrates that he did his homework and made a film that was truly his own. For example, I've never liked the fact that the film shows the shark in all its glory so early, but Szwarc explains why this was a deliberate choice. (I still don't agree, but it's good to hear a smart director defend his choices.) Actor/director Keith Gordon also delivers a wonderful short film chronicling his experience with "Jaws 2," and it is also not surprisingly excellent, full of great story-telling and humor. (If you haven't seen "The Chocolate War" and "A Midnight Clear," these are two superb independent films which he directed.) I do have a few complaints. Is it me, or does the widescreen here look just slightly squashed from side-to side? It looks like it needed some more black on the letterboxing to me...also, I don;t have home theatre, so I can't tell if the sound is as disappointing as some of these reviews have said. And finally, the one shot in the film that drives me crazy is the one that concludes the extraordinary sequence in which Mike is pulled on board the catamaran just as the shark propels by the boat. Everything works until the shark opens its mouth, and the rubber or the shark's nose bends in a totally unnatural way. Szwarc explains how difficult that shot was to get so we can forgive it...but it's always taken me out of the moment of suspense to see that, and I wish that he had said "[darn] it, I wish the nose didn't do that." Well, this is nit-picking, isn't it? I definitely recommend this film -- and for me, the DVD is a winner. Long live nine year-old film critics!

Summary: Great DVD for fans!
Review: It is impossible for a film to follow Jaws and maintain the grip it had on the audience, but this film does stand up on it's own. The story follows the original family and their struggle against the Amity community. It does a wonderful job with character and story development, but the action here focuses on the teen culture on Amity. The actresses playing Tina & Jackie are the best scream queens I have ever seen! I have never seen terror portrayed with such intsense and convincing emotion. The teens have so much fun in the film, are adequately developed and distinguishable, and the action sequences are incredible. This film has terror, story, and action wrapped together beautifully. From the moment the boats collide to the "Raft of Medusa" moment, the heroic rescue of little John by his "baby-sitter", and the final shark attack. You'll be on the edge of your seat. The DVD includes a great hour long featurette on the making of the film covering everything from the different pitches by various writers to capturing the film's final moment. This is not one of those 15 minute featurettes that serves nothing more than a trailer. It is great to learn about the trials and tribulations of making a sequel, plus a director's commitment to character and plot development. Deleted scenes include an incredible sequence with the helicopter pilot struggling underwater! If you loved the first film, don't let this pass you by. This does target a younger audience, but it does a great job continuing where the first film left off.

Summary: Great sequel!
Review: To me, I think Jaws 2 is one of the greatest sequels of the series. Even though if Steven Speilberg didn't direct it I still like the movie. The director of this movie did an okay job and yes of course it's not a Speilberg movie but who cares! Jaws 2 is a great movie and I have it on video. I have Jaws 1, 2 and 4. I think I'm leaving out 3 because I don't think it's great. It's fake and it's not even scary. I use to watch Jaws 3 alot when I was a little kid and it kind of scared me then but not anymore. The only Jaws movies that scares me is probably 1 and 2. But I still watch them even though if I get scared. I think your suppose to get scared right? They are horror movies! Jaws: The Revenge didn't scare me that much but it's still good. I hope someday they will release the first Jaws movie in the theater that would be great! But I'm glad that they released the Jaws movies on DVD and video first so that we can enjoy the masterpiece of the film. It's a perfect movie to own in your collection. I'm sure that they won't release the Jaws movie for a couple of years in the theater. But I doubt they won't. Thanks for reading!

Summary: Why do they keep doing this to us?
Review: In a nutshell, this is a pretty decent movie. It is definitely a cut above many sequels. What kills this DVD presentation though it the "Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono" sound. Come on now...Jaws was released last year in a DTS presentation, and this movie is more recent than the first. Why are we being forced to tolerate MONO here? Do the movie companies think we don't know or don't care? I sure know that this movie sounded like crap compared to the DTS presentation of the first one. I am going to sell my copy of this DVD and wait for it to be released correctly so that I can enjoy it. If you're watching this movie on a TV with no sound system, you'll be fine, but if you appreciate home theatre, be prepared to be let down by this sound.

Summary: A Fair Sequel
Review: The opening is superb to this film. Finding the Orca on the ocean bottom is intriguing and mysterious; the shark attack somewhat predictable. Scheider's performance is great as the water fearing island police chief, deeply affected by the first shark. The shark scenes are great, but the island scenes are somewhat overdone; including Brody's problem with no one beleiving him, and the teenage sailing scenes. Overall a good sequel, much better than Jaws 4.
