Review: This movie was scary. I mean The Shining Scary, which, along with this, are the only two movies which truly frighten me. The ending was great. They compare the tape to a virus and like a virus, that young girl wants to spread her fear and pain to everyone. You can't free her, because, freeing her only spreads (note the duplication of the tape) her satanic impulse. Also, I think the tape starts out with her first victims, with each consecutive scene showing the whereabouts of other deaths. I believe that is why the end of the movie is seen with an elongated tape which spawned a new scene (the actual closing of the well which looks like a ring. The ring, however, is not the well. At least that's my opinion. I don't believe I have everything covered, or it may actually be a movie that can correctly be interpreted differently. Either way, it scared me and half the theater. Almost every girl there, was trying to get inside her boyfriend, and I mean the in a literal, platonic way.

Review: Ok I saw this movie after hearing everyone saying this is the scariest movie ever. I will admit after seeing that disturbing face in the beginning, I was totally on edge but once the movie was done I realized that the only scenes that really scared me was the two faces after being scared to death and the girl coming out of the t.v. Be in mind that I am also 12 years old. But overall this is a good movie but TRULY not as frightining as everyone says. But God those faces freak me out, they are SCARY!!!!

Review: the american version of the ring stays pretty close to the original japanese release. the acting is over the top, the thrills are great and many and the visuals are amazing. But the great thing about it, is that it doesn't have that hollywood feel on it. is really dark, suspenful and creepy...but the original version have something else to offer....the real sense of the dead looking at you all the time....good effort...almost as good as the original.

Summary: A good scare and a good scream
Review: The Ring is an excellent, well-thought out movie, that will definitely put the chill in your bones. Adapted from the Japanese version, Ringu, it is a great thriller/horror movie before or after Halloween--the usual time these movies come out. Naomi Watts gives a terrific performance as Rachel, a reporter trying to figure out the contents and beginnings of a video tape that kills its viewers seven days later. What I enjoyed most was watching Watts and not some high profile actress in the role. Just as the Blair Witch Project had unknown actors in it which lent to the mystery and suspense of the whole film, The Ring does the same with up-and-coming Watts, from Mullholland Drive, holding the reins. I found myself watching a scary story on it's own, without watching "an actress" and knowing she's acting. The other aspect that was excellent for the movie was that it was shot in a muted color--nothing of intense color stands out in this movie, possibly except for a few things for effect. It's dark tones and creepy settings work so well. There is really almost a black and white tone to the entire movie. It all comes together and tells the tale of this video tape.....and it works so well. The Ring is a great date movie because there's bound to be some arm clutching, it's fun and scary and entertaining all at once--there's even a few of those good lines that make you laugh. It's definitely worth the dark movie theater experience for this one!

Summary: Dark but not deep
Review: Following such lightweight fare as "Mouse Hunt" and "The Mexican", Gore Verbinksi turns dark with "The Ring" and shows off both his skill and versatility as director. It looks great, too, thanks to cinematographer Bojan Bazelli. Unfortunately, skilful direction and beautiful shots can't overcome the inherent silliness of the story. The premise is superb, and Ehren Kruger (whose best work by far is still "Arlington Road") tries to make the most of it. But the film can't sustain its own creepiness when it inevitably comes time to explain who or what is behind the murderous videotape, and how and why it works - the explanation is weak, and the obligatory double-ending comes across as fatuous even though it neatly subverts genre rules. In the end, the wonderfully unsettling video is the best thing about this film. "The Ring" is still entertaining and offers some genuine frights, but it's not as thoroughly satisfying as other creepy thrillers of recent times. M. Night Shyamalan has taken it to another level, and you get the feeling that everyone else is playing catch-up.

Summary: Cheap Scares
Review: Though it was difficult to follow the movie with an audience of easily frightened teens screaming at every loud noise, I caught just enough of it to realize that too much went unexplained, while the parts that were explained made little sense. This movie posesses an excellent atmosphere, perpetrated in part by the often overused dark quality of the picture itself. Suspense is also present, but only because the viewer is waiting to see when the next scary image will appear. The only reason this film is frightening at all to a hardened viewer is the atmosphere of it, because the images are not very terrifying. I was disappointed because the movie did not try to deliver genuine chills, but rather sought to make viewers jump by allowing images to pop up suddenly with a ubiquitous screaming sound effect that did not endure past the first time it was used. Every part that caused the audience members to scream involved a loud sound (on a side note, the images that were meant to be scary actually caused the audience to erupt with laughter). Overall, I liked this movie because it made an attempt to be intelligent, though it ultimately failed in the end. The nightmare capacity of this film is virtually nonexistent except for young people and those who jump at thunder.

Summary: Better than I had thought, but that's not saying much
Review: Of all the horror films that have been released of late, none attracted me more than The Ring for the simple reason that it is rated PG-13. After seeing countless horror films trying to be scary and frightening by using predictable tactics and loading on computer generated blood and gore, my faith that horror films of old that didn't rely on blood, gore, and gross out effects to be scary (Poltergeist, Pumpkinhead, the original Halloween) would be returning in films such as The Ring, but I was very disappointed. The film starts out with an eerie opening and some nice scares leading up to an investigation by a reporter (Naomi Watts from Mulholland Drive) into the death of her niece which involved a video tape rumored that if one watches it, seven days later you'll die. While the storyline is interesting and has a bit of originality to it, it seems that director Gore Verbinski wanted the film to be too suspenseful. Not to mention some things are never explained in the film (such as why the horses flipped out) and by the time the credits start rolling you'll have more questions than answers. The acting is pretty well done, but the child actor playing Watts' son seems a bit out of place and a little creepy himself. All in all, there are a few great eerie and scary scenes throughout The Ring, and horror buffs could get a kick out of it, but anyone and everyone else shouldn't expect much.

Summary: Who is paranoid?
Review: Well me for one after seeing this movie I have had trouble sleeping going into rooms without lights on and watching television. I am really glad they did not show too much of what happens in the movie on the trailer cause it would of ruined it. I can't seem to think without being scared, something might come flying out of my computer for all I know, until I get a grip on things I will think about how I will get this movie interesting so other people will want to see it, and so I wont be the only one paranoid. I highly recommend this movie. But please don't take your kids.

Summary: Great Movie, but the Japanese version is better!!!!
Review: This was a great remake of an already great Japanese horror franchise. "Ringu" which was released in 1998 in Japan took the country by storm, much like our fascination with the Blair Witch Project. Several Sequals, comics, cds, TOYS, etc.. were released to coincide with the releases. Check ebay for the "RING" films on DVD, they're worth it.
