Summary: THE SCARIEST MOVIE OF THIS YEAR!
Review: This is easily the scariest movie of 2002! Forget Fear dot com, Ghost Ship, and They. See The Ring and Signs. The Ring is a re-make of a japanese film called Ringu, but the re-make is far superior. Not only because it is in english, but it just has a much better atmosphere and a long sense of dread. This is a superior horror film, that you need to see. It is splendid. It isn't scarier than The Exorcist (Then again what is?) but it makes Rosemary's Baby look like a saturday morning cartoon. Yes this movie is that scary! You must see this. Not only is it the scariest movie of 2002, but it is one of the scariest movies of all time. Go see the Ring today!

Summary: Great Movie!!!
Review: This is a great movie. Really freaky! It's one of those movies that keeps you from sleeping for nights. Over all it's great for anyone who wants a good scare. Anyone who says this is a bad movie is wrong. Good story too, very mysterious.

(P.S. I'm not really a kid I just didn't want to make an account and you dont need an account for this.)

Summary: Freaky...
Review: Looking for a freaky movie? You need to go see The Ring. It's like Steven King meets Wes Craven.

Summary: Don't bother
Review: This movie is not scary. It doesn't even make enough sense to make up for the fact that it is not scary.

Here's the story:
There's a videotape. It contains a series of scenes that really have no relation to each other. (Tip for the director: next time, don't reveal this much. It probably would have been more effective not to show what was on the tape and let the audience enjoy that suspense. I know the images in the video pertained to other parts throughout the movie, but that was stupid, too. So I guess I'm suggesting a rewrite.) Anyway, if you watch the tape, you'll get a phone call after the tape ends telling you that you have seven days to live. An interesting premise, but it's executed oh so blandly.

The plot centers on Naomi Watts' character. She finds the tape after her niece dies from watching it. She watches it. Other people in her life watch it. There's a creepy little girl. Etc., etc. I think this movie aims to weave a convulted plot that raises the bar in the horror genre of movies. It fails. It makes no sense. Instead of seeming "smart" like it seems it is trying to, this film ends up achieving the opposite. There's a part towards the end of the movie where you think it is the end, but you really know it's not. And it isn't. How typical. This movie reminds me of the Scream series because it has so many expected, general horror movie tricks. But there's a difference. Unlike Scream, The Ring isn't making fun of itself.

The only reason I gave this movie two stars is because of Naomi Watts. Although this was not nearly as good of a career choice as Mulholland Drive, she works well with what she is given. So, if you do watch this film, focus on her. Not on the weak, confusing plot and unevetful, unsatisfying ending.

Summary: Ending better than credited
Review: Almost every review I've read of this movie has contained a complaint or two about the ending. I personally thought the ending was a neat change of pace and re-introduced the concept of "horror morality" a la SCREAM in a very interesting (and reversed) way. I especially thought the critque of what we allow images to do to us, and what we are willing to do to protect ourselves rather than doing what is right was fascinating as well. Not a grand-slam movie, but a bit better than might be expected.

Summary: Boring.
Review: This movie was incredibly boring. A friend of mine told me it was the scariest movie he has seen in a long time so I went to see it. I was very dissapointed. I wasted my time and money on this movie. The acting was the only good thing about this movie. The plot was also very predictable. IMHO you should wait for a rental and even then wait for a free coupon.

Summary: THIS MOVIE IS SCARIER THAN THE EXORCIST!
Review: Up until seeing The Ring, I thought that The Exorcist was one of the scariest movies of all time! But that has changed! The Ring is the best horror movie ever ever MADE! I loved every second of this movie and I cannot wait to own it on DVD which it hopefully has the following features that will delve further into the mystery:

The full, uncut video that is shown in the movie
Audio Commentary with director Gore Verbinski
Behind-The-Scenes documentaries
Casting Tapes, etc.
2-disc Special Edition DVD is in order and in this special edition it should have both widescreen and full-screen versions on seperate discs instead of charging money for 2 different versions!

For those of you who don't know what the movie is about yet here's a summary:

A woman who's niece views a videotape and mysteriously dies 7 days after viewing the tape, tries to investigate the deaths of several other teenagers while trying to survive after viewing the video herself.

Sound confusing, well, when you see this movie, you will forget about the plot, all you'll be thinking about is "Will my fingernails be intact before the end of the movie, because that is what I found myself doing during the movie. To everybody, who wants to go to the show and be scared on a Friday or Saturday night, check this flick out!

Summary: dont listen to the "RINGU" only fans they are both good
Review: A great remake of the #1 1998 Japanese smash horror flick "Ringu", which also continues in "Ringu 2" and "Ringu 0".
The Ring remake has definitely been Americanized, but it is still creepy non the less. Very eerie and taps into something in your sub-conscience. The video this movie is based around is like watching a nightmare you almost remember having. It will chill you. Better than any other newer American made horror flick from the last few years. (Not including anything David Lynch has done. If you want to consider his stuff "Horror") Want a genuine straight forward, well presented Horror/Suspense movie with excellent camera shots and creepy effects? Then this movie is for you. If you are expecting another pile ... like Jason X then you will be happily disappointed.
The ending does leave a lot of unanswered questions, but it makes sense if you really sit down think about it. And the reviewer who was wondering about how it got on VHS?..It was not originally on VHS, it has been copied, and copied and copied for over 25 years.

Summary: RING AROUND THE ROSEY
Review: This movie could have been better but it followed too much of the same forumla as other horror movies. Some very good concepts but unrealistic dialogue, mediocre acting and only one truly scary scene left you more questioning then being scared. I am still not clear how this tape that kills you turned into VHS -- why not beta? DVD? lol -- what was the point of it being a VHS tape and the fact that they never explained why this happened leaves you feeling cheated. Especially when you realize VHS probably wasn't around when these horrors happened.

They basically danced around being a real scary movie. The classic horror movie camera tricks and loud sound effects make you jump but when you realize it's just a cat or something -- it kinda ruins it.

The truly scary thing in the movie was the little boy -- he was upstaging all of the adult actors. It would have been better if he would have had a larger role. The two leads were bland and didn't seem to have a real connection. It seemed off camera they probably didn't like each other. However, one scene was scary, different and stuck in my head for the rest of the night, which made the movie worth it. See the Ring with a bunch of friends and have a good time.

Summary: The Ring - A Worthy Effort. ...
Review: There are three labels of horror movies: 1) Jump-out-at-you scary, 2) Creepy-atmosphere, and 3) Makes-you-think-about-it-later scary. If all three are successfully combined into one, then it truly is a horror masterpiece.

Usually.

"The Ring" is the kind of movie where the ending is on the brink of completely ruining the whole movie. The journey there is great, but the final destination is, well. . . .UGH!! There are so many terrifying moments, so much blood-curdling suspense that you really want to like. . . no, love "The Ring".

But, alas, there are also so many, TOO MANY unexplained elements that the conclusion does not make any sense whatsoever. . . ...

Too many questions, far too many unanswered.

Worth seeing; it has some good performances, and it IS VERY SCARY! The whole movie is actually very well done. . . except for the sense-deprived ending.

As a horror movie, whose purpose is soley to scare the audience: 5 Stars

As a plain movie, which makes sense and has a good beginning, middle, and end: 2 Stars
