Summary: a very scary experience
Review: This is not only the scariest movie of the year but one of the best in my opinion.I screamed a total of about 13 times during the thing.man.The beginning is like a scream/i know what you did last summer type movie but surprises you by turning into more of a sixth sense type thriller. The images of the tape are very unsettling. The whole movie is unsettling.I recommend watching this with youre friends in the dark. The reaction on their faces when a scary part happens is priceless. If you want to be scared yourself, watch it alone. boo.

Summary: Great enterteinment
Review: First of all, let me say that I have not seen the original japanese version of "The ring", so I have no ways to comparing both movies.

When I searched information about this movie's plot, I found out that I was very interested in watching it. The plot seemed good, the scenes I saw on trailers got my attention and Naomi Watts is very beautiful.

The plot is, in short, as follows: there's a certain tape, that has become the newest urban legend, since the tape is supposedly killing those who watch it. One of the people killed is the niece of Naomi Watts' character. Intrigued, she starts an investigation that will lead her through a maze of utter terror and madness.

Although we can't say Naomi is an incredible actress, she leads the role easily, though sometimes she seems a little bit overemotioned. The other actors and characters are, in my opinion, shallow, with the exception of Brian Cox, good as usual.

The best part of "The ring" is, no doubt, its visual. This is a very graphic movie, with good graphic elements and situations. It's effectively scary and can be considered a good horror movie because its visual and graphics are incredibly right and well-thought to serve their purpose (in some parts I remembered "The cell", although J.Lo's movie is more colorful and open-spaced).

Great enterteinment, don't think too much.

Grade 8.8/10

Summary: Good remake--unique among American horror flicks
Review: The only problem I have with the U.S. version of "The Ring" is that it adds very little to the original Japanese film (Hideo Nakata's "Ringu", with some elements of "Ringu 2" thrown in). As a fan of the original (couldn't get it out of my head for weeks after seeing it), I still enjoyed the American film, yet it didn't have the same impact. The visual effects were far cooler, possibly coming at the expense of the eeriness and shock quotient you get in the Japanese "Ring."

You'll know 10 minutes into the film whether you like it or not--the beginning is probably the best part. Avoid it if A) you're a splatter fan [not much in that department], B) you find ghost stories hokey, or C) you're a stickler for logical consistency. Otherwise I recommend it (or any of the several Asian variations) to all interested in a good, "supernatural"-themed horror flick.

Summary: Think about this film before you judge it
Review: One of the great new sensations of the mainstream horror film genre came out this year. I'll admit, it's not everything I thought it was going to be from all the reviews and trailers I saw before the film opened. I'll even admit that if it wasn't for the pretty creepy ending of the film, I would have written this off as a ... "Sixth Sense" ... film. After rethinking the events of the film, I began to see that it quite a bit more complex than it first comes off.
Throughout the film there are hints and red herrings distributed that are somewhat hard to notice. If it wasn't for the ability to have a copy of this film at my disposal I might not have noticed these added pieces of fun.
After watching this film a couple of times I began to realize that the creepy aspect of the film mostly comes through thinking about the questions that it doesn't answer. There are so many things that remain open-ended, obviously meaning there will be a sequel (which its Japanese predecessor "Ringu" has already done).
As to anyone who thinks the actors in this film are "nobodys" and don't have any talent, obviously you have never heard of Naomi Watts being in the amazing film "Mullholland Drive." Watts has more talent than the no-range Julia Roberts will ever possess. Also, how can you put her down when she's such a hottie?

Summary: On par, maybe even better than the Exorcist and Sixth Sense!
Review: Quite possibly the best horror movie of all time, The Ring manages to hit the scare-o-meter like no movie has since the excorcist! The Ring is currently schedualed to be released on March 4, 2003 on DVD and VHS, simultaneously being released with the original Subtitled Ringu(The original)!!!

Story:

Urban legends are by many taken as a joke, a big hoax if you will. Of course every Urban Legend had to start someware, and what if one happened to be true- That is the basics of The Ring, a new horror movie from Dreamworks based on the Book(more based on the movie): Ringu. A newspaper reporter Rachael Keller(Naomi Watts) learns that her neice had died unexplainably, and all of her friends believed it was because of a Tape which Katie had mentioned seeing. She decides to track down this Tape and find out if it is true that if you watch it, 7 days later you die. With oscar-calibur performances by Naomi Watts, Daveigh Chase, Martin Henderson and Brian Cox, The Ring is a movie not to be missed! So catch it in Theaters or on DVD and VHS March 4, 2003. Cause if you don't I only have one thing to say to you

Summary: Lukewarm and boring...
Review: After my sister saw this and refused to watch TV for a week, I went to it expecting a scary treat...And got a lukewarm film with minimal chills. They have a few suspenseful moments, but not nearly enough to make up for the complete boringness of the rest of the movie.

Summary: The original is better.
Review: I just want to say, I saw the original movie (Aka Ringu) months ago, and its still in my head. I saw "The Ring" this night, and I've already forgot it. If you want something that creeps under your skin and stays there, see Aka Ringu. This is a movie worth to see though and I'm sure I had given it more stars if I hadnt seen Ringu first...

Summary: "What have I done to deserve this?"
Review: That's right. That's exactly the question you're going to ask yourself after watching this film. I am writing this review to help you decide to avoid a mistake you might regret. I have to admit I'd had no great expectations prior to watching this movie (I must admit that I had nothing better to do either); I'd thought it should be a standard horror flick that may try to scare me a little bit, give me a rush and possibly a few entertaining moments. Well, not this nor that.

Briefly, the story deals with a cursed video tape; the people that had watched it had a week before experiencing a horrible death. In the course of the movie the viewer will find out what it's all about.

From the beginning I 'sensed' this was "The Sixth Sense" wanna-be; a haunted child, a single mother, gruesome death incident, a video tape, hidden messages, strange events - all the components are there - but alas, Mr. Willis and Mr. Osment are absent ! The producers had decided to save considerable amount of money, and so they hired anonymous actors that did not deliver. This fact leaves the viewer with some frightening moments, that have no real impact since he does not really care for the fate of the protagonists. In all, it does not even begin to compare to the famous predecessor.

You see, there was no genuine effort to develop the characters; They all seemed like cardboard ones from the silliest low budget horror film. In essence, there was the story that should have been so gripping and interesting, that it would make the viewers forget about everything else that was not right or well-done in the motion picture. I have news for the producers - it does not work that way.

Bottom line - don't waste your time.
