Rating: Summary: Very scary and Review: After watching Signs, I remembered what a truly scary movie was. It is not full of action and violence. It is instead suspenseful and beautifully directed.I think the reason people are disappointed in the film is because it's not what you'd expect from the advertisements. It is not full of action and violence. Instead it focuses on a single family in Pennsylvania who begin to realize that aliens may be specifically targeting their farms. Despite this (and I've seen many scary movies) I felt more scared throughout this entire movie than I have in almost any other scary movie. I did guess some of the things that were going to happen (like the water glasses), but that just made it all the more great. The ending is fantastic (and yes, it does have a religious message.) I do enjoy some other more violent horror movies like The Ring, there are several scary movies like that. But Shyamalan realizes that there does not have to be lot's of blood and violence to make something scary. Instead he takes the much more subtle and much more intelligent approach (not that all the violent movies are all unintelligent) and truly helps us feel what the characters feel. The performances are great, the script is great and the cinematography is great. But above all, the soundtrack is amazing. It is, in my opinion, the best soundtrack of last year. It fully captures the fear, the hope and the suspense felt in this movie. Signs is what any truly scary movie should be like. Subtle, personal, smart and very suspenseful. A masterfully crafted film, that will be probably be under-appreciated today because it isn't what one expects nowadays from horror. Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper both gave this movie four stars. Roeper called it one of the top ten films of 2002. And I agree.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs up Review: This film is simple enough-aliens, crop fields destroyed, Mel Gipson. Although Juaquin Phoenix is a little over the top, and the child actors are just child actors, this film had a reminiscent of 2001, because it was subtle, yet too the point. Sure, it has flaws. Sure, these aliens aren't conventional. Sure, it's not perfect. I really liked seeing Night make a Sci-Fi, and I liked watching the film from his childhood on this dvd. It has extra goodies, and a nice collectible booklet. It's not one of the best films of the year, but it has moments of brilliancy. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!
Rating: Summary: Signs Review: Signs is one of the best alien invasion movies I've seen since Independance Day! What made it work was the unexpected twist in the typical aliens-taking-over-the-planet formula and the theme about faith. Don't forget the suspense and the pacing that kept me in the chair even after the credits were rolling. I love M. Knight Shyamalan's movies. This one is my favorite!
Rating: Summary: Signs Review: Ok.....Signs.....well the storyline sounded promising on the previews...but when I watched the movie...I guess it really didn't do it for me....The only truly creepy part is the end the rest I constantly laughed my head of because it was so stupid....I mean It was so predictable...I knew from the beginning that the gurl and her water would play a major role...and it did.....I donno if you life sciece fiction...alien stuff this might be for you...but otherwise don't watch it
Rating: Summary: Signs What more is there to say? Review: This movie sacared me but thats what i asked for! i recomond this to any person who wan't to be scared!!cuz i certinaly was!!
Rating: Summary: An Ok Sign for Signs Review: This movie was Ok, the actors did a good job in protraying their characters. The downfall of this movie is that they got into the action right away, but didn't show you anything until the end of the movie. I waited how many hours for that?! Half the time you want to see what happens, but they don't show you anything!!
Rating: Summary: Why on earth do so many people like this movie? Review: First of all I must say that "Signs" was the biggest letdown of a movie I`ve seen in a long time. There seemed to be so much hype surrounding this film when it first came out at the cinema. In addition it was earning rave reviews from all kinds of sources and I also heard a certain famous hollywood actor declare this as one of best films of last year. Anyway I fully expected an intelligent, original sci-fi thriller. What I got was a plot that was poor even by tv-movie standards. The script was equally awful and offered very little for Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix to work with. It could just as easily have been a prolonged episode of the X-files, although even the X-files never succumbed to such levels of mediocrity.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Not many young directors are as talented with the camera as M. Night Shymalan. This is his third major studio movie and also his best. Signs does not deal as much with crop circles as much as how one family deals with crop circles. This may sound confusing, but this film is built on such a genuinely simple concept that the viewer does not have to think too hard. Graham Hess is a former priest who lost his faith when his wife was killed in a tragic accident. His family is slowly growing apart and to add to the tension, an enormous crop circle appears on his land. Terrifying events start occurring throughout the world and Graham's awkward structure of a family begins to fall apart. This movie has enough frights, but these frights are strictly limited to what the viewer cannot see rather than lighting up the screen with dazzling amount of special effects. I loved Signs for its simplicity because that is truly the only way to convey a message.
Rating: Summary: Some people don't get it, and they probably dont read much. Review: The people I have talked to about this movie that did not like just didn't get it. Some people that this movie was bad because it was a movie about aliens and you only got to see an alien at the very end. First of all, this movie was not about aliens, there just happened to be aliens in it. This movie has to do with having (or not having) faith. If you're looking to watch this movie for "supercool aliens", go watch something juvenile like Independance day. THis was a wonderfully written movie about family, faith, and small town life. The coolest part about this movie is the only time the star of the movie reaches for a weapon, he doesn't use it as one. If he had, it would violate his character so much it would've ruined the movie. Anyone who turns their nose up at this movie and calls it boring is someone who needs a couple of explosions per scene and/or Vin Diesel to enjoy a movie. If you think you have a brain, see this movie.
Rating: Summary: this was a scary movie? Review: ok, talk about absolutely a 0 star movie. ok. the acting was good. i mean we are talking about academy award winning actors. (not in this movie) i dont understand this movie at all. there are like 1,000 questions to be answered at the end. and you want to know the lamest part about the movie? the way the aliens attack! i was expecting some sort of cool special effect, but it was soo dumb. rent the movie you will know what i mean! and of course, they go after the one house where mel gibson and his family lives! i mean come on! and who in the world would believe mel as a priest? get real! dont buy this movie!
