Summary: much better than manhunter
Review: i watched manhunter on recommendation of a few friends and was bored. the characterizations in that movie were flat and cold. but with red dragon, everything's changed. this is the first time that i've seen a remake that's better than the original. edward norton as will graham added so much more depth to the character. and the beginning shots, where they established the relationship between lecter and graham was perfect. i also really enjoyed ralph fiennes' portrayal of dolarhyde. in the first one, the killer was large, ugly and looked monstrous. with this one, fiennes' defect was more subtle, and was monstrous only to him. also, the establishment of a cruelty-filled childhood gave the killer a more sympathetic side. all in all a great movie.

Summary: A worthy prequel
Review: After seeing Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, Red Dragon was a bit of a let down. A set of grisly murders brings FBI Agent Will Graham (Norton) out of retirement and puts him in search of "The Tooth Fairy" (Fiennes) who's driven by the image of a painting. Yet his only means of survival and success are to seek the help of another madman, whom he himself captured, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins). Marked by past scars and quickly running out of time, Graham finds himself tangled in a heap of madness, sacrificing his work, his family, and above all his own life, to put an end to pure evil.
The biggest problem with Red Dragon is Edward Norton as Will Graham; he just doesn't fit the part. To the films advantage, Ralph Fiennes and Emily Watson both give outstanding performances. Anthony Hopkins plays the part brilliantly! Unlike Norton, these three actors seem totally natural and don't seem out of place at all.

Summary: Suspense, not horror
Review: This latest release continues the tale of Dr. Hannibal Lecter through a vicarious interaction with an obsessive killer. The movie captures the past and present day life of Hannibal while providing the viewer, atleast those who have not read the books, with some of the background on how he was caught.

The movie maintains the suspense of the original, though certainly not as chilling as the Silence of the Lambs. A very solid rental. With the exception of the advid fan, most movie buyers should pass on this and save thier money. ...

Summary: the best of the trilogy...to me anyways
Review: For me Silence of the Lambs was one of the more overrated movies that i have ever seen, it wasnt bad but i didnt get why it was praised so highly, it was just average. Then Hannibal came out which...well basically hannibal [wsn't good].

Now i almost passed on seeing red dragon because generally prequils kinda [not good] but this one was great, surpassing silence and hannibal. The first ten minutes of it our great, the look on nortons face when he finds out hannibal is the killer was just classic. The story of Red Dragon is of course similar to silence of the lambs, the investigator enlists the help of hannibal in catching a killer. Feinnes does a great job in his role, i mean you want him to get caught but you also sorta feel sorry for him as well. Edward Norton is good as always but seemes a bit miscast in this role...i guess once youve seen american history X every other character he plays just doesnt seem right.

In any event, if your a big fan of the trilogy or just want a good movie you cant go wrong with Red Dragon.

Summary: Decent Silence of the Lambs prequel
Review: Red Dragon, the third in the series of flicks featuring Dr. Hannibal "the Cannibal" Lecter is merely okay as a psychological thriller. I found the character development, particularly that of Francis "The Red Dragon" Dolarhyde to be superficial, with Dr. Lecter's character the notable exception.

The story was an intriguing one but for the most part the characters seemed to be made of cardboard. Ed Norton, one of the finest young contemporary actors, as the FBI profiler was meek and whiny. Ralph Fiennes, a brilliant classical actor seemed uninspired as the driven and diabolical killer. Anthony Hopkins was brilliant, as usual, as the cultured, refined yet horrific Dr. Lecter. Harvey Keitel was nothing special but Anthony Heald as the self serving and loathsome Dr. Chilton was terrific.

With a wonderful cast to work with director Brett Ratner came up short in his shallow adaptation of Thomas Harris' chilling novel.

Summary: Great! Very enjoyable thriller!
Review: Everyone was wonderful in this movie! We rented it not really knowing what to expect after having seen Silence of The Lambs and Hannibal. This movie was a real murder mystery thriller with fantastic performances by everyone. I thought it was well-cast. Ed is perhaps better-known for playing the bad guy, but he pulls off this role and manages to make us believe he is fearful. I personally believe Norton deserved an Oscar for his performances twice before.

Summary: BEHOLD THE RED DRAGON
Review: This was an excellent movie. I was never a fan of Edward Norton until I saw this movie. After watching this movie I wanted to join the FBI and rid the world of these hideous human beings known as serial killers. The crime scene work in this movie was excellent and the way Norton transformed his thought to that of the "Tooth Fairy" aka the Red Dragon aka Francis Dolarhyde was brilliant. Those expecting a "who did it movie" this is not it. That aspect of the movie is what I like best. It gives a lot of character developement to the Red Dragon.

Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal was again brilliant. His role was lesson considerably from Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs but it only made you yearn for more of him. I love the beginning of the movie when it shows how Lecter is captured.

The only thing that was dissapointment was that there was not that many killings. I know it sound sick, but in the movies it is ok and adds to how the killer is really insane.

overall this is the best movie I have bought this year. I can not wait until the fourth installment of "The Cannibal"

Summary: Not as good as the original -- Manhunter.
Review: I suppose if I saw this film without having first seen Manhunter, I likely would be giving it a better rating. But I did see Manhunter and it is legions better than Red Dragon. William Peterson (now of CSI fame) played Will in Manhunter and, compared to Edward Norton, he is just more believable as a seasoned FBI agent who has been psychologically and emotionally damaged by his work. I also felt Harvey Keitel (whom I normally like) was stiff here. Ralph Fiennes was alright, but his depiction just fell short of Tom Noonan in the original. I so BELIEVED Noonan's portrayal, if only because he is so freaky looking to begin with. Also, he was a virtual unknown in 1986, and is still not well known now. I challenge anyone to compare two scenes in particular: The first is when the killer has kidnapped the reporter and shows him the slide show. Noonan is much more menacing, scary, and believable. The second, is when he takes the blind girl to see the tiger. In Red Dragon, the girl pets the tiger and listens to his heart through a stethascope. In Manhunter, she runs her fingers through the tiger's plush coat, very sensuously, and presses her head to its body. Then she puts her hand in the tiger's mouth and fondles his menacing canine tooth. That's edgy, erotic, dangerous. And superior. To the other reviewer who notes that several of the lines could have been taken directly from Psycho, he's right. In fact, both Psycho and Manhunter/Red Dragon (as well as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs) are based largely on the crimes of serial killer Ed Gein, who murdered women for their skin. He wanted to become his mother and he liked to dance naked beneath the moonlight draped in their bloody skins. When Gein was caught, it was said that they discovered he had made lampshades out of human flesh. Bottom line: Manhunter is the better film. See it before you watch Red Dragon.

Summary: Red Dragon too predictible
Review: Even though I liked the movie,it held on to too many
of the same preceptions, created and used,in The Sil-
ence of the Lambs. The suspended fear was no longer
there. It's almost as if we have gotten use to the
"good" doctor.I fear that Hannibal Lecter's intensity
was the only thing holding the film together. The last
part was so predictible,I was tempted to be angry with
the director.As Doctor Lecter would Say,"Please don't
insult my intelligence!

Summary: delicious...
Review: "ed norton miscast"? no way! his weasle-ness set the perfect mood for me... i kept expecting him to succumb to lechter's mindgames - i thought ed's character would eventually give in and do something sinister/crossing over to the dark side... i think that was a major key in why i loved this movie. and to my surprise, i even like this one better than 'silence of the lambs'!!!
(cant believe i said that!)
and even the tattooed sub-villain's presence is priceless (even if it is a direct copy of norman bates from 'psycho'!).
i love this movie... well directed, well acted... well done.

sum.
