Rating: Summary: Does anyone hate this? Review: Everyone who has watched this loves it. Need I say more? It's just one of those cult psycho thrillers that goes off.
There's another DVD which I am hoping to find (anyone heard of it?)called "Back for revenge" starring C Thomas Howell in a reversal role. He is the avenger and some of the murder scenes are just great.
Rating: Summary: An example of what a thriller should be! Review: First off Rutger Hauer made this movie. His mere presence was chilling. The story was pretty standard stuff but very well done. An it had some great twists.
If suspence/thriller is your thing and you have not seen this movie, than go out right now and rent it.
Rating: Summary: What in the world!!!????!!!! Review: How has this movie managed to get 4 stars from reviewers on amazon??? I guess people love bad movies, i followed the advice of people on here and man am i disappointed. First this in no way a horror movie, this is a thriller/action movie. Most already know the plot from other reviewers so i'll just give my 2 cents. The first 20 minutes of the movie start off very well, lots of suspense and a great erie feeling, but after that, it's all downhill from there. Besides the plot holes, we are left with no explanation at the end of the movie, like why is this physco attracted to star of the movie, and what's his whole deal, we are left with so many questions unanswered, so at the end of the movie i felt like "why did i waste my time". How in the world did this killer know every single place the guy was gonna be, even if he ended up someplace by accident? He killed a whole bunch of cops in a police station, and the star is in a cell there and doesn't hear a thing? the killer gets ran over, thrown out a moving vehicle and not one hair moves on his body? I give it 2 stars cause there is pretty good acting in the film, and some of the action sequences were good. I forced myself to watch it through to the end because i thought i would get alot of questions answered, nope the movie leaves you dry. Well i sure don't recommend buying it, it's defitnitley a renter if that.
Rating: Summary: We used to rent this movie to scare ourselves. Review: Watching Rutger Hauer in this made me think, "Europeans are scary!!" It's a shame he didn't go on to make more cool movies.
Rating: Summary: "I want you to stop me" Review: This is one of my absolute favorite horror movies. Rutger Hauer is the title character, and he deserves a spot in the movie villainy hall of fame. A lone driver on a deserted stretch of highway picks up a hitch hiker and a one way ticket to hell.
Here's what is so scary about this movie-John Ryder's persistence. Unrelenting horror really only applies to a handful of films and this movie is one of them. From implied nastiness ("...because I cut off his legs, and his arms, and his head") to scenes of nerve shattering violence this is a movie you shouldn't watch before a road trip.
Now here's the rub. This dvd edition sucks donkeys. Blue Underground or Anchor Bay need to step in and rectify the situation. This is a classic that deserves classic treatment. If you liked Steven Spielberg's Duel you'll love this movie.
Rating: Summary: "My mother always told me not to give rides to strangers" Review: Director Robert Harman's 1984 film about an innocent drive-away driver (C. Thomas Howell) fleeing from the relentless pusuit of a psychotic hitchhiker (Rutger Hauer.) Although the screenplay is rather generic and the story predictable, this short film stays above your average 'B' movie due to outsanding performances by Howell and Hauer.
The plot is pretty simple and rather generic. A drive-away driver (Howell) on a is on the road to a new life in Los Angeles but something goes terribly wrong while he's driving through the Southwest. He gives a ride to a mysterious passenger (Rutger Hauer) who reveals himself as a deranged killer. The suspense builds as Howell's character seems unable to elude his antagonist. Blamed for the murders, Howell must also deal with pursuing law enforcment.
Although the film's basic story-line is rather generic, Howell and Hauer make a great acting pair. Each actor is completely immersed in his character and they deliver great performances. There's also a minor role played by a very young Jennifer Jason Leigh playing Howell's companion.
This is a good suspense thriller that has acquired somewhat of a cult following. For this reason, I give this film 4-stars in that it manages staying above your typical 'B' movie category. A fun movie to watch multiple times.
