Rating: Summary: Rutger is fantastic! Review: This movie made me discover Rutger Hauer. Man, he is great as the superhuman hitcher. I love the scene when he enters the coffee bar and sits down in front of Howell. His smile when he looks at Howell is so damn cool.
Rating: Summary: One of the most disturbing movies of all time Review: This movie has got to be one of the most twisted, disturbing movies of all time. Definitely not for the uninitiated, this movie reaches a climax with the tractor trailer scene like no movie ever has. Twisted and terryfing basically sum it up, but you could add disgusting to that as well. Be warned; unless your up for some serious fear and shock, just move along.
Rating: Summary: Highly intense scenes; Rutger is superb! two thumbs up! Review: The movie builds to peak frenzy, as you discover the truth about the hitcher's activities. It shows how a nobody can get caught up in someone else's life and death stuggles, with no alternative but to take the matters into his own hands. A great psychological thriller!
Rating: Summary: An entertaining horror/ thriller! Review: I class this film as a horror simply because it is a relativly scary feature. Imagine picking up a hitch hiker only to realise he is a psychotic maniac! A good film!
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking..... Review: The first time I saw this movie, I was a teenager and thought it was horrible. After re-watching it now, in my 30s, I think the movie has merit, although the scene involving the girl and the trucks is one of the most sickening I've ever seen. Some of the violence was overkill, in my opinion. One of the things I like about "The Hitcher" is that it makes one think. Is the villain non-existent as a person, and a mere illustration of the "evil" part of the Howell character's psyche? Or is he real? You decide!
Rating: Summary: Hitcher, or hitch her? Review: THE HITCHER came out several years before THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, the latter of course being much better-known. The psychotic hitch-hiker Rutger Hauer portrays in THE HITCHER will make you lose just as much sleep at Anthony Hopkins did in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. THE HITCHER dares to risk upsetting the audience with the tractor-trailer scene, so you've been warned. Up until that moment, the suspense makes THE HITCHER well worth viewing; after that moment, it's up to you.
Rating: Summary: Don't watch this before a cross-country drive! Review: If this isn't the scariest movie....well, I don't know what
Rating: Summary: What is going on between those two? Review: One of the most underrated suspense movies of all time, Hauer and Howell deliver the performances of their careers (with Howell that's not saying much). It was criticized by some for not explaining the relationship (if any) between Hauer and Howell, as if all filmgoers need to be spoonfed. All in all, a great screenplay, well edited, decent cinematography. Best scene: Hauer and Howell face to face in the cafe.
Rating: Summary: EAT MY FINGERS!!!!!!! Review: I love the part where the one guy is eating and instead of a fry, a FINGER!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great cult horror/action flick! Review: This is one scary movie. Rutger Hauer is amazing as the hitcher. This must be one of the best bad guy performances ever on film. The setting - empty desert roads, roadside cafes, trucker motels - plus Hauer's character give the movie a strange and scary tone. Get it, watch it, love it, watch it again!
