Summary: One of the best genre films since "The Exorcist"
Review: In all seriousness, this movie grabs hold of the viewers and does not let go until the very end and stays with them after they leave the theater. It has been a very long time since the limit has been pushed like this in the horror realm. If you are a fan of true horror and suspence then this movie is a must see because it will chill you, shock you, and have you coming back for more.

Review: This is the best movie I have ever seen.This is the most under rated movie I have ever heard of.If you like the Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis then this is the movie for you.This movie will make you laugh and keep you on the edge of your seat.And towards the end you will be like WHAT? Then you will be like. SAY WHAT? Then you will be like...........OH MY GOD! Unbelievable.Just when you think they have made every movie out there possible to what the mind can come up with.They do it again with something more different and entertaining.

Summary: Wickedly Clever
Review: Bill Paxton plays the good young Christian father of two small boys who live in an everyday country town living ordinary lives. Skip to the future. Matthew McConahay's character walks into a detective's office and claims to know who "The God's Hand Killer is." He proceeds to tell an intricate and wildly twisted story of the horror that him and his brother faced, shortly after his dad supposidly flew over the cuckoo's nest (went looney). Amazingly timed perfectly to riddle you with fear at every turn. The instant hard hitting soundtrack is put in very nicely to keep your heart pounding and you on the edge of your seat. This clever and taught thriller will throw you for one heck of a loop more than once. Very much worth your time, if you are a Stephen King fan, HOLD ON TO YOUR SOUL, this movie kicks everything kickable. Definitely one of King's finer acomplishments. Keep in mind that this film is VERY intense and relentless so don't think your watching another Scream wannabee. It is gaurenteed to scare the everlovin' shtuff out of you. More mentally perhaps than physically. However, if your one to bring out your gore meter, then don't bother, the body count may rise but Hannabal may be more up your alley.

Summary: Somewhat like The Shining, but better.
Review: I recently saw this movie at a theater before it left and thought very highly of it. I though that Bill Paxton played the character better than he did in A Simple Plan. This movie tells the story of two boys and their father, who live a very standard, small, ordinary life in a small town of peace, until one night their dad wakes them up to tell them he has had a visit from an angel. He tells them that the angel said to him that he was chosen to destroy demons that would look like ordinary people. Fenton is the only boy who is against it and very disturbed by the fact that his dad is murdering people. This film was actually directed by Bill himself and he did a terrific job at it too. It's frightening, but most of the murders and grotesque stuff is off screen which is a good thing for the people who are sickened by gore. I would recommend this film to people who love suspense and mysterious stories.

Review: How could you? I expected to see that kind of thing in the customer reviews, yet instead the actual Amazon summary spoils it with no warning whatsoever, while only one of the customer write-ups does the same thing. That one is called "McConaughey's cute, but Paxton does not deliver" by Rachel E. Turner. Actually, there are a few other posts that hint at it--called "Thoughtful," "God's Voice Can't Be Wrong," "Good Movie - Could have been better," and "Bill Paxton directs a fine movie." They aren't quite spoilers, but you're better off reading them after you've seen the film. Because the twist IS a good one. Some agree, some don't; either way, it will be hard for you to judge if you already know the ending before your first viewing.

Summary: Wild ride.. What a rush
Review: This is the best movie of 2002 in my opinoin. The acting is great and the directing by Bill Paxton is wonderful. this is a movie that required some guts to make and turned out perfectly. I am looking forward to this release...

Summary: Frailty
Review: Frailty Each year the masses descend upon big budget special effects laden movies that usually place more importance on effects then that of the story. However every year there are those special films that really deserve to find an audience. Some do, but most don't. This film is an example of the kind of movie they don't make anymore. Every year I keep hoping that someone will make a movie that is as scary as "Halloween" the one movie that still manages to give me a good scare even though I've seen it many times. Frailty isn't as scary but it is still pretty chilling. The movie takes place during a stormy night in which an FBI agent has been called into his office to meet with someone very important. That someone is Fenton Meiks (Matthew McConaughey, "The Wedding Planner") a man who has an important reason for being here. A killer known to the FBI, as "Gods Hands" is on the loose and Fenton is here to tell agent Doyle just who the killer is. "I can't live with what I know" is how he justifies what he has come to tell the agent in charge. The agent in charge of the case is Wesley Doyle (Powers Boothe, The villain in the 1995 Van Damme movie "Sudden Death") who asks Fenton "What makes you so sure that you know who the killer is?" "You haven't even heard me out and already you doubt me" Fenton replies. Fenton explains that he is here with his dead brother Adam's body in the back of an ambulance that Wesley soon learns is stolen. Fenton then begins to tell a shocking story. The story begins in the 1970's when Fenton (Matthew O'Leary, "Domestic Disturbance") and his brother Adam (Jeremy Sumpter) are just young boys who live with their father (Bill Paxton who also directed) in a small house where life is simple and that is how they like it. One night Dad wakes the boys up and tells them that something has happened. He claims that in his sleep he saw an angel who told them he was to be a messenger sent to destroy demons on earth. He tells them that she will be sending him a list of demons that must be killed and also weapons that must be used to destroy them. The boys at first are not sure what to make of this story and when nothing happens for a few days they think it was a dream. Then one day Dad comes home with the news that the time has come to destroy the first demon. Adam has no problems with this, as he truly believes that they are doing the right thing. However his brother Fenton is totally against it. "Dad is murderer and you help him!" Fenton tells his brother who then of course tells dad who is forced to inflict harsh punishment on him that gets worse when Fenton runs away in the night and tells the sheriff what is happening only to be locked up in the dungeon they have built to store the victims until they are killed. Dad tries to explain that by touching the victims you can see the sins they committed. One example is that of an old man whom dad claims is a child molester. Whether the whole story is true I won't say, but I can say that this movie does a great job of making a strong case for whether or not we have the right to play god. The movie is not overly bloody. The camera only shows the axe going down. Trust me that is more than enough. One of the movies biggest tests is whether or not the children are good actors. Since most of the movie revolves around them and their father the acting has to be good. Thankfully it is Excellent. The direction by Bill Paxton (Making his directorial debut) is also really good. He allows us to be scared while not being grossed out. The screenplay is also really effective which is good because the material is so tricky that in wrong hands it could have been just another lame horror movie with religious overtones. The movie also gives us a twisted series of surprises at the end that work in that you may not see them coming. Frailty is released from Lions Gate Films, which is further evidence that the big studios don't have the courage to release honest and truthful films that are more like real life then most of the movies they make. After seeing this movie you might just find that nightlight may come in handy for a few nights. Review: **** out of five

Summary: Surprising, for Hollywood
Review: I have to admit, this one is a slight change from your typical Hollywood morality film. It's fairly dark, but only somewhat unteresting... it really didn't keep my attention, like a good Lynch or Hitchcock movie. Frailty offers a unique perspective at fundamentalist religions, though I dont see that as the focus of it. Worth a viewing, though not a purchase.

Review: ...I liked this film because of it's dark nature and excellent suspense (not to mention a wonderful completely unpredictable twist at the end). This is a pretty safe bet though and I'll be purchasing it very soon.

Summary: Cellar Door
Review: I know that there is the one guy out there that hated this movie, but for me this is the best movie I have seen since a Beautiful Mind. There are no holes, it all makes since, and though you may leave scratching your head, later that night the light bulb will definately go off. Bill Paxton has created the craftiest movie released so far this year, and the exciting thing is he has only just begun his directoral career. In the spirit of Hitchcock, Raimi, and Shyamalen, the movie is spooky and tense. And I'll tell you honestly, my faith in Matthew McConaughey has been reborn. He has a creepy aura about him unlike anything anything he has done before. If you have seen it, don't you agree? The budget was used so wisely with this movie. It seems every cent is front and center only to further the enjoyable experience. I am just plain excited to see a movie that doesn't rely on the high-dollar cartoon-like effects as seen in recent films. Everything seems real, even a short sequence in which Paxton appears to be seeing an angel drifting down to him from a high chapel. As far as the story: twist's. I am not trying to play up this movie, and even though there are people who aren't going to like it, for whatever reason, the twist's cannot be denied. Its refreshing to see a movie that dares its audience to use their brain power, rather than some other movies released this past year that have felt down-right insulting. It would take a miracle (no pun intended) to remove Frailty from my Best of 2002 list. In the light of such massive epic's as Spiderman and Episode II, that's a gamble on my part. If you want to avoid the crowd during the next month, see Frailty, and when the dvd gets here you should seriously consider adding it to your collection. ~s.a.o.s.~
