Review: The second best translation of a Steven King novel into a movie (the best being Carrie). It caused a whole generation of people afraid of clowns. The other option is reading the 1500 page book.

Summary: A Great Imagination From Stephen King. Very Original.
Review: I have seen Stephen King's It at least over 20 times. It was a very entertaining thriller. The story sets place in Derry,Maine where seven kids known as "The Losers Club" join together and later put up a fight against a malevolent clown named Pennywise, who comes out every 30 years to kill and eat children alive. Pennywise can read children's minds and turn to anything they're afraid of. The Lucky Seven had issues, and later became unusually successful. Bill Denbrough, who lost his little brother and stutters, became a horror novelist. Ben Hanscom, who was overweight, and lost his father, became an architect. Beverly Marsh, who has an abusive father, becomes a fashion designer. Eddie Kasbrack, who had asth'ma and an overprotective mother, got into the limousine business. Richie Tozier had metalbolism becomes a stand up comic. Stan Uris was a jew, and Mike Hanlon, a black man, becomes a librarian in Derry. After 30 years, Mike Hanlon finds out that It is back and calls everybody one by one. Each individual went back to their flashbacks and showed how they got together as close friends, getting picked on by a school bully named Henry Bowers, and they go to the sewer to kill It, but came close and made a promise to come back to Derry if Its not dead. Stan gets the last phone call and committs suicide because he couldn't handle the pressure to bring himself back to Derry based on his promise. The rest of the lucky seven got together, talked about the old times and plotted to kill It. When they went to the sewer for the second time, It turns into a gigantic spider. Eddie gets squeezed to death and dies. The rest of them kill It by ripping his heart out and the nightmares were over. Everybody moved on with their lives. If you are fan of Stephen King, then i recommend this movie. If you are afraid of clowns, this will frighten you.

Summary: Oh yes, they Float, Georgie, they Float
Review: This movie rules! I'm a huge fan of the book, and I can say that the movie really does it justice. The whole story involves a group of kids, all "losers", drawn together by a supernatural force to confront an ancient evil that takes the form of a malignant clown.Tim Curry was, I think, born to play Pennywise the Clown. Sadistic, waddling freak with his doughy, grinning white face, red wet lips stetched as wide as his ears. In his clown form, he is able to charm the younger kinds, but he becomes the fears of the older ones, taking them down into his sewer dungeon to feed on them. The kids that finally beat the monster, Big Bill and Haystack and Bev and the rest of the Loser's Club, manage to force It back into It's lair, not dead, but nearly mortally wounded.... Driven by a feeding cycle, It rises again decades later, and the Loser's Club, now forgotten in adulthood, is drawn back together to face the monster one final time. This was originally made-for-television, so the movie is only capable of so much, but I think that fact alone gives the movie special merit. The casting was pretty much dead-on (especially in the case of Pennywise) and the special effects were surprisingly good. Probably the fact that the film makers were incapable of going the hack-and-slash rated-R route helped to improve the suspense and the atmosphere. The book was great, and the movie was great. I would recommend them both. I think that the humble perfection of a classic good versus evil story can sometimes be overlooked. The purity of a tale in which you can easily lose yourself. And that's just what It is. Two big thumbs up from me.

Summary: Childhood Menace
Review: Pennywise the clown succeeded in making a clown scary. I never will look at a clown the same way. Where I had some difficulty was linking the clown to the creature that consumes the bodies of those who have been "blinded by his dead lights."
The best part of the movie for me was the early part with the children coming together to overcome the evil of this creature as well as the evil influence that it seemed to convey to the rest of the community. I could relate to these children and appreciated each of them as they showed their unique personalities.
The second part of the movie, dominated by the adults, I didn't find as compelling, though the clown continued to be a scary and devious menace. But the protagonists just didn't jive with the children I thought I knew in the first half of the movie.
Even so, this movie had many scary moments for me. Though not a great film, this was a good and memorable one. The human element of the childhood comaraderie made this film more than just a film about a spooky, evil, clown.

Summary: Great movie, horrible DVD
Review: I don't know about the rest of you, but I am getting sick of DVD reviews that just give a summary of the movie. If I wanted that I would go to imdb.com or some other site. People need to have a review of the DVD. It seems like almost all the reviews about this movie are just a summary, and not talking about the DVD itself. First of all the product information listed above says this DVD is 193 minutes but on the back of the DVD case it says 187 minutes. I am not sure if this is an error or if there really are six minutes of footage cut out. There is some footage cut out from the original version which I will discuss a little later. First off this DVD is presented in the aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The back of the DVD says "WIDESCREEN VERSION Presented in a "matted" widescreen format preserving a theatrical aspect ratio. Enhanced for widescreen TVs." Okay, this doesn't make any sense. The original aspect ratio of the movie is 1.33:1 because it was shot for TV. Saying that its preserving a theatrical aspect ratio means nothing. What exactly is being preserved? Nothing is being preserved. You are actually losing information on the top and bottom of the screen just so it will fit on your widescreen TV. The result is that the picture is longer, you are losing information, and they have to zoom in on the picture a little bit so it fills the screen, which results in slight grainyness, but isn't really that noticeable. I don't understand why some people only care about if their TV screen is filled with picture. If the movie was originally shot in widescreen, that's how the DVD should be. If it was originally shot in 1.33:1 (as is the case with "It") that is how it should be. They should've at least made both versions available.
Now here comes the part that realy pisses me off. After part 1 of the DVD is done, you have to flip it over to watch part 2. This is okay since the movie was originally presented in two parts. It's basically two separate movies. But the thing that drives me crazy is that they cut out the ending of part 1 so that it would flow better into part 2. The original ending of part 1 shows Stan's wife screaming and then cuts to the wall in the bathroom where the word "It" has been written in blood. You can still hear her screaming and the camera slowly moves in on the blood while "to be continued" appears on the screen and you can hear laughing from the clown. Then the credits roll. On the DVD the part with the word "It" written in blood as the last shot and the clown laughing is missing, as are the end credits. Instead, they show the word "It" written in blood for a few seconds, then cut to the woman screaming for about one second then it just fades out really quickly and the DVD menu screen pops up. After the woman screams it's supposed to cut back to the word "It" and the clown laughing. The ending on the DVD is horrible. A close up of her screaming for a second then the video and audio fades out all of a sudden...Terrible. I prefer the original ending where it shows the word "It" written in blood. It was a perfect ending for part 1. Also this DVD doesn't have the opening credits of part 2. The argument that they wanted to converge both parts to make it flow like one movie isn't a good argument since you have to turn it over half way through anyway. I bet they decided to make you turn it over because they knew if they just put part 1 and part 2 together it wouldn't flow correctly. I don't understand how a DVD like this can be released. What is the logic in taking out the ending of part 1, the end credits of part 1, the opening credits of part 2, and then making you flip it over? I would have no problem with flipping it over if they showed both parts in their original entirety. The VHS and Laserdisc versions of "It" are just like the original, so why not the DVD too? Warner Bros. releases the worst DVDs in my opinion. Their cases are cardboard and their movies have almost no special features. The only special feature on here is the commentary by the director (Tommy Lee Wallace) and a few of the actors (recorded separately and then fused together to make it appear as if they were there at the same time). I found the director's commentary to be very interesting and I learned a lot. He was really fun to listen to and tells you how he did certain things in the movie. The actors' commentary was horrible. They don't really ever talk about the movie. They just talk about random things and crack jokes every fifteen seconds. I was highly disappointed when they spoke. They provide no insight. The director was the only good part about the commentary. I would have given this DVD two stars but since I love the movie (the original version) I decided to give it an extra star. My recommendation is that if you love this movie, rent the DVD to listen to the commentary but buy the VHS or laserdisc version.

Review: When I was in the 4th grade I saw this movie at Wal-Mart and thought,"That looks scary".Then people told me about the movie and I wanted to see it but I was sort of too scared to watch it but finally in 6th grade(two years ago) someone bought it for me & I watched it.It wasn't terrifying but I think Pennywise looks scary.I still cover my ears and close my eyes when Laurie Ann sees him behind the closeline.I think the movie would be better if they didn't do the stupid Stan's head in the fridge and the bugs and gross stuff in the fortune cookies.Ok well enyways the movie is about a small New England town in 1960.A demon? keeps attacking kids who come to a creek in the woods and the demon takes form of a clown to attract clowns and he will only hurt you if you are afraid of him.7 friends decide to take a stand and fight him but 30 years later(1990) several kids are killed and when Mike(one of the principle characters) is at a crimescene he finds a pic. of a character named George(Goergie) and then knows that it is Pennywise(the demon) he calls his friends and only 5 show up instead of 6 and they decide to have a final showdown.It is a very good movie.I liked it very much.

Summary: One of the better Stephen King movies
Review: Just like Pet Sematary this movie is well made but too long and gets a little boring here and there. A group of kids have trouble with a supernatural force that's a clown and then grow up with the supernatural spirit that follows them. The second half is a bunch of grown-ups having flashbacks and the firsthalf is a kids point of view. Not really the best nor worst Stephen King adaption to movie but could have worked better if it weren't so long. A good cast features John Ritter,Annette O'Toole,Tim Reid,Harry Anderson,Richard Masur,Dennis Christopher,and Richard Thomas as well as Tim Curry as the It clown named Pennywise. The best parts are when the clown pops up in the shower and scares the kid and when the girl sees a balloon in her sink and pops releasing blood. Watch to watch on TV(sci/fi channel and USA) show it all the time but do not buy unless you have a Stephen King book and movie collection.

Summary: Good movie, but not enough to buy it
Review: I actually didn't buy this movie, I rent it, because my sister watched it when she was 8 ys old, and now she's 22 and she's still afraid to the clowns. I watched it, and the night I did it, I was alone in the house, I turned all the lights out, and I closed the door. When I watched it for the first time, It really scared the *!"@ out of me, but, the second time...what? Anyway, that night, the NIGHTMARE i was waiting for was a 5second nightmare!
When you watch the movie, what the hell is "It"? Is it a clown, is it a light, it is a wolf, what? I know that "It" takes the shape of your most horrible fear, but...a light? "The light of dead"? and that spider that appears in the end? I know it was advanced technology for that year, but now, let's dress a cable like a spider and there it is!.
I won't deny that the first time I watched it, I was really scared, but with some parts only...You really are not waiting for me to scare with the light, are you? It is a good movie to watch once, but twice, don't waste time!

Summary: Could be the worst movie ever made.
Review: Why can't I take stars away from this movie? (minus one star) This could be the worst movie ever made. I did not read the book It is based on, so I can't compare the movie with the book. But this movie has everything: wooden acting, absurd dialogue, clumsy direction, cheesy special effects, idiotic plot, silly ending, bad cinematography. The only question is whether it is so bad as to be campy. This may be the only movie ever made that is just bad, bad, bad. I've seen home movies of a kid's birthday party that are more entertaining and suspenseful.
