Summary: Beautiful and creepy
Review: I recently saw this on DVD and it was a great movie. It was beautifully shot and acted. The scenes were Ichabod dreams about his childhood are beautiful....to us Americans who grew up with this story well, we love the movie. The soundtrack is great also, trust me I have it!

Summary: Typical Tim Burton
Review: Tim Burton has done it again. Sleepy Hollow is a wonderful, dark, moody film. Burton's vision of the world of the Headless Horseman is breathtaking. It helps carries the movie. The movie combines horror and comedy (albeit very little comedy) to make a very entertaining film.

The biggest shock to me was Johnny Depp. The only movie I ever liked him in was Donnie Brasco but he made a fan out of me. His portrayal of Crane shows the character at his weakest and strongest. Questioning his own beliefs Crane comes through and battles the Horseman.

A recommendation is in order for this film. It's not a threat to winning any major awards but this is a fun film and a guarenteed good time.

Summary: Sleepy hollow
Review: A brilliant masterpiece rebuilt again by Master of arts Tim Burton... At first I saw the reviews and thought of it as a normal horror like the rest, but nothing is true about it. Great costumes, great scenery and great decapitations. The atmosphere in the movie makes you suspect everything and everyone in the movie. And No one else could have played Ichabod Crane better than Jhonny depp. The same goes for Cristopher Lee, who is about the most wanted horror badguy. All in All : A must see for everyone who is fond of some good old horror movies.

Summary: Tim Burton's number one Masterpiece
Review: This is Beautiful. I never tired of this movie. The scenery, acting, and overall mood of this story are so enchanting that you think your actually involved in this movie. What was very interesting about the movie is the obvious, The Horseman. They really made this horseman really interesting. You will undoubtedly love how they emphasize the horses hoofsteps. All in all, this movie is Tim Burton's best. If you are like me and love the dark and mysterious you will put this movie at the top of your list. This movie is like an eerie waavy poem. A poem that never loses it's mysteriousness. There is also some really funny comedy. If you think that there is not one fault in the movie due to this review your wrong. The one fault is that the Hessian, when he is alive, has some kind of sharp fang-like teeth. However his skull doesn't.

I have to admit this Tim Burton has outdone himself. I would buy this masterpiece the first chance you get. The witch could have been scarier and they didn't have to have her eyes pop out because that just made it look kind of like a detailed cartoon. So don't pass this eerie tale of loud horses, lots of blood and really really good settings. If i had to rate this movie I'd give it a very well deserved 9/10,

Summary: Impressive work on an impressive classic
Review: I have always enjoyed the story of Sleepy Hollow (since Washington Irving is one of my favorite authors) and I never rank movies according to how well they coincide with the book: I dont believe that movies should be overlooked just because the plot is not exactly the same (its a movie!). Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is a very impressive movie, with wonderfully executed cinematography and excellent acting by both Depp and Ricci. I am also excited to see Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman (I love the sharpened teeth). The way Burton executes (no pun intended) the execution scenes is effective, yet remarkably clean as opposed to the blood and gore that several directors seem drawn to. Kudos to Burton. I gave the film 5 stars because (obviously) I feel that it is worth it. I think that people will see movies that are ranked at 5 stars, and I definitely recommend this movie to anyone!

Review: This Is A Great Film!

Johnny Depp as usual plays a unusual role in this movie and did a Great Job. This Movie gives you a dash of everything Gorr, Horror, Laghter, Romance. I think this is one of the best movies i have seen in a long time and urg every one to see it.

Summary: eh
Review: Like most Tim Burton movies, this is a beautiful movie without much of a plot. The whole thing looks like a painting and I'm blown away by the visuals. I also dig the whole Johny Depp as Bride of Frankenstein look.

Unfortunately the murder mystery falls apart at the end of the movie and the Headless Horseman which was evil and unstoppable, suddenly slows down in order to have a hokey chase scene with the main characters. Before then there is nice atmosphere and enough to hold one's interest but it's not the most original plot in the world.

Summary: A great-looking, empty movie
Review: Tim Burton's adaptation of the Irving classic is one of the most stylish and best-looking films to come out of 1999. Unfortunately, it suffers from a lackluster screenplay.

Moody and dark, the film establishes the menace and mystery of the Headless Horseman right off the bat. Johnny Depp is exiled to Sleepy Hollow from the big city, where his unorthodox techniques have ruffled the feathers of his superiors, in order to solve the murders committed by the Horseman. Christina Ricci looks pretty, but doesn't do much else, the town elders are all pretty much the same cardboard cut-outs, and the Horseman continues to add to the body count. Too bad the action is all aimless, as the real star of the movie is Burton's atmosphere. Any movie requiring the villain to expound for 5 minutes at the end to explain the whole plot did not have enough of a plot to get made into a feature in the first place.

Rent it to say you rented it and saw Tim Burton's mastery at creating a world, and then promptly forget this mindless movie.

Summary: Well-crafted stuff from a guy who knows what he's doing.
Review: *Sleepy Hollow* is a clever retelling of Washington Irving's folksy horror tale. If this story had to be redone, we can go ahead and thank our lucky stars that a legitimate cinematic visionary like Tim Burton did it for us.

The computer-generated-imaging is used economically, yet with maximum impact (other directors, PLEASE take note.) The sets and photography are as outstanding as you might expect from a Burton film -- spooky and lovingly rendered. The costumes are surprisingly accurate, the only anachronisms being some weird autopsy tools and far-out goggles belonging to Constable Crane. But even that makes sense, given Burton's conception of the hero: the director obviously is aware of the intense debate between Science and Faith during the time period he's depicting, and this debate is brilliantly characterized by Ichabod Crane (very well-played by Johnny Depp). This new conception of the Crane character as a Constable is the best thing in the film. It provides intellectually stimulating ideas as well as helping to make this old tale a neat murder mystery. Bravo!

Now, the drawbacks: an irritating thing about Burton is his endless "homaging" of earlier work, and, as others here have pointed out, this movie is definitely an homage to those Hammer films of the 50's. A two-hour homage to Hammer may be considered excessive. Is Hammer worth it? Or, more to the point, does Burton have his own cinematic "voice" other than paying stylistic tributes to other directors? Also: the Horseman Himself, while effective early on when he thunders by so fast that we barely see him, eventually becomes somewhat ludricous. I mean, they shoot him, they stab him, they toss him off moving carriages, but he still keeps going and going. Or is this merely Burton's homage to the *Friday the 13th* pictures?

Anyway, I recommend this wild ride, even if it might be a bit much.
