Summary: "Abandon"
Review: This is one amazing under rated film. All the people here on amazon are bashing it, why, because they dont understand it! I had to watch it 3 times before I fully understood this picture! And you have to pay close attetion! The film skips back and forth from past to preasent to future and you have to put it all together! Its a physcological puzzle!!! Thats why people hate it and thats why I love it! Katie Holmes is amazing!! This is more confuseing and makes you think even more than "The Matrix". Its one of my alltime favorites along with "Speed". Its one of the jewels of cinema! Give it a chance watch it one than once and PAY ATTENTION!!!

Summary: One star in place of a zero
Review: ... Me and the roomie went to see it one Friday night and when it was over, I literally was on the floor laughing and crying for at least five minutes.

I actually was intrigued at first until it became clear that it was all in her head, and she was the psycho. For the life of me, I can't remember what movie this was trying to be.

This is one of the movies you watch just to make fun of and point out the problems.

Summary: Shameless and Obvious
Review: There are so many things wrong with this film, I feel like ruining the ending for everyone just so they don't have to waste two hours of their life watching this drivel. I have no idea what the Oscar-winning Writer (can the academy take an award back?) was thinking here: part College-slice of life, part detective story, part alcoholism p.s.a, part love story. ALL DONE POORLY. Skip this mess. Not even Holmes, who's been impressive in "Wonderboys," and even the "The Gift," can make ANY of this film convincing.

Summary: Meh...
Review: First, I might as well get the negativity out of the way.

I'm not denying that Katie Holmes is a good actress. It just seems to me that she plays the same bland "I'm trying to get over a problem that I never really resolve" character. MOVE ON. MIX IT UP. YOU ARE BETTER THAN THESE KIND OF ROLES. And as for Benjamin Bratt...he was a better cop on Law and Order than this movie. Now as for the good...

Will McCormack, you NEVER disappoint me! He's a great actor to me because he has these supporting parts that if anyone else had played them, I would not have remembered them but with him, you make an effort to remember. A great actor to me also because even with a small part, he makes the effort to try to stick in your mind. Anyone who has seen this man in American Outlaws will have some idea of what I'm talking about. It's also good to see Gabrielle Union in movies. Melanie Lynskey...better in the movie Detroit Rock City. Zooey Deschanel...better in Almost Famous and the New Guy. Now as to the actor who really kept me with this movie...

Charlie Hunnam! He is (to me) undeniably gorgeous in this arrogant way (love him better with his English accent) and the intensity he brought to Embry Larkin was chilling. He dominates the screen with his ..., in control of every situation attitude. Best example of this comes in the first scene where he's conducting the chorus and then with KH and throwing her planner out the window saying "no one this organized ever had time for sex." He makes the most of his screen time and I can't wait to see more from this actor.

To wrap it up..Abandon...whatever. They say there are some movies that are like you either like 'em or don't. To this...I'm gonna have to say "meh...I'm indifferent"

Summary: silly stuff.
Review: This movie deserves two stars for the cruddy, seen it a million times ending, but I must admit I was intrigued up until that point- hence, the 3 stars.

Katie Holmes plays "Katie" a stressed out college undergrad. She has a group of "how hip are we?" friends, a spooky ex boyfriend who seems to be haunting her, a sexy cop hot for her, and on the case of the missing boyfriend, and a penchant for staying up way too late in the library working on her thesis (the library is always lit in a straining blue color, and there's a creepy library worker/student who speaks to Katie in mumbled insinuating tones).

The cinematography goes a more than a bit overboard with the hipster camera tricks. I had to look away from the screen during the looong strobe light scene.

I couldn't help wondering what the twist was, I admit to being a sucker when it comes to teen mysteries, but when it was revealed I realized I'd just wasted 98 minutes of my life. Were we, the audience, really supposed to be shocked over the final revelation? What a cop out! (pun intended)

Summary: Do not conform. 'Abandon' is a must see.
Review: And so the major critics pasted this movie with an uncertain disapointment all over. As did your average movie-goers with ammateur criticism of 'their own'.

But, yes, I agree with their praise in Katie Holmes's performance, as well as the rest of the cast. The intelligent writing, the development of all of the characters, the lazy-like mood and dark settings, the cinematography, etc. Beautiful.

What critics disliked was the ending.

Tell me you understood it. Tell me you simply understood all the situations as they were happening. I did.

Maybe if people would open up their minds to something new and different, view this movie at least once more, you'll see it. And you'll see it for the first time.

Don't expect an 'edge-of-your-seat' kind of thriller. Expect a hypnotic -- sometimes dramatic -- psychological -- and must I add creative -- brilliant first-attempt of a film.

Good going Gaghan. Real good.

Both him and Katie cannot and should not be ashamed of having done 'Abandon.' Such a fine job that is and was well written and very well done.

Applause.

Summary: amazing
Review: I know this didn't get great reviews from a lot of other people, but I really was entertained by it! It is a very unique movie that doesn't try to copy movies of the past to create a fanbase. To me it doesn't matter how good it did at the box office, I think it was very poorly advertised. When I saw the trailers I really had no clue about the movie, and the actual movie was much different than what the trailers portrayed. This isn't a scary movie at all but it is very suspenseful and makes you think. As you're watching you get all these predictions about what might be going on and then in the end you are totally shocked by the outcome. Honestly it is one of my favorites because it isn't a jumpy graphic horror by any means, it makes you think. So, you should definetly at least rent this....give it a try.

Summary: Abandoned sense of direction
Review: You know when you watch a movie half-way through and you get the general idea of what the movie was about, but you're not quite sure of all the details of the plot? That's the same feeling I got when I watched Abandon all the way through. The movie had a sense of direction equal to that of a chicken with its head cut off. The plot just kind of staggered around, didn't really go anywhere. There are points in the film where you can tell that suspense is trying to be created, but there isn't any real ground here to build suspense. You feel like you should be expecting something riveting to happen, but you're not sure what, and nothing really happens. Overall, there's some okay points in the film involving character development and preformance, but that's not enough to save this mostly uninteresting and inconclusive movie.

Summary: A TEASE!
Review: The movie is weak. The character of Katie Holmes is monotonous and boring. The real interesting character is EMBRY. I absolutely fell in love with him. He is probably the most complex character in the movie, yet about 4 or 5 scenes are dedicated to him. If only his role was expanded, the movie could have been a psychological anomoly. Being a psychology major, I would give anything to study a character like that. He is truly an enigma--possessing the qualities of a genius, while being magnetically arrogant and and charmingly egoistic. He is an anti-hero, being a basher of conformity and the masses. He gets what he wants. This was evident in about 2 scenes in the movie. The 2 scenes that depicted his enigmatic personality were a tease, for the rest of the film was rubbish, portraying his character as nothing more than a jealous boyfriend. A movie should be made on this character ALONE. I suggest you watch the first 30 minutes of it and spend the rest contemplating the depth of Embry's psyche.

Summary: The Movie Is Awful
Review: I fell asleep while watching this horrible movie. Benjamin Bratt is horrible in this movie. I hated his character. The movie could have been a lot better but it ends up being pointless and stupid.
