Summary: MUDDY OLD NON-ANAMORPHIC DVD-DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Review: The order page describes this DVD was anamorphic widescreen. It is not. Amazon refuses to make things good. We definitely would not have bought it. Now, we're stuck with it after having sold our original copy for next to nothing. We would have rated this a zero but it wouldn't let us. Two thumbs down to Amazon. I think a class action suit is in order against a business that has no class where their orders are concerned.

Summary: Action packed, full of surprises
Review: The year following Braveheart, Mel Gibson starred in this Ron Howard-directed action-packed movie, where he plays the role of a media mogul whose kid gets kidnapped. The plot evolves around all the corageous moves he takes to try and get his son back.

For those who enjoyed the "Lethal Weapon" series, this movie will be a perfect match.

Summary: Not the sum of its parts
Review: There is a lot of talent that went in to this movie. The cast is nothing to sneeze at and they do a fine job, the production is first rate and all of the elements of suspense are there. The trouble is the story itself was flat. I thought Mel Gibson, the bare knuckled business builder was going to use his wits to fight the bad guys. That major advertised premise is only a dinky part of the story. The bad guys did not seem that bad (except for Gary Sinese, they seemed kinda doofy to me) and my disbelief could not be suspended as much as the movie demanded. I'm not giving anything away here, but starting with the scene when somebody comes by to collect their reward, you know that a key screenwriter quit and a bunch of others were hired to finish this movie.

Summary: Mel, Gary & Lili are awesome...
Review: There's not much to this DVD other than the pleasure of owning the movie to see the superior peformances of Lili Taylor, Gary Sinise and --especially-- Mel Gibson.

As a tortured father fighting his own demons as well as a brutal kidnapper, Mel delivers his arguably best performance. Even Rene Russ, with all her Hollywood hair, cannot detract from the genuine strength, emotion and passion he puts into his role. Clever twists and turns defy believability at times, but you will be caught up in the drama and excitement of this captivating suspense thriller.

Summary: No Quite Perfect. But that close!
Review: This film is not just a thriller. It is a deep psychological thriller. Instead of relying on action this movie stands firmly on the emotions of an impressive gathering of some of the greatest actors ever: Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, Gary Sinise, and Delroy Lindo.

My only real complaint is that the final action sequence seemed delayed a little too long, and then occurred too simply.

But don't let that shake the movie. There are still tears enough to drown in; rage enough to burn down the house; and suspense enough to stop the clock!

Summary: Not Perfect, but Close
Review: This film was a little too typical for my tastes. The characters follow too many of the same motions as have already been carried out in many other movies by many other characters. There wasn't much originality. That doesn't mean that this wasn't a good film. The cast is filled with strong actors, and they really make theis film work.

Summary: The best movie with a 5 star cast
Review: This gripping thriller about a kidnapping is an absolute must-see. The drama is gripping, the suspense is real, with edge-of-your seat excitment. Mel Gibson and Gary Sinise lead the cast in an unforgetable, tense, sweat-soaked, gripping story about the young boy of wealthy Tom Mullen, who is held for ransom by a band of ruthless kidnappers. The long, drawn out sequences between Gibson and Sinise just add to the suspense. This is Mel Gibson at his absolute best! Ransom is probalbly the best movie I've seen. Gary Sinise is mesmorizing as the kidnapper and makes the movie all the more exciting. It's action-thriller, suspence, and drama all at once. Fantastic!

Summary: FANTASTIC, but scary
Review: This is a fantastic movie, but scary anything like this could happen. Imagin being that kid, jeesh. Freaky. Absolutely Fantastic movie.

Summary: new dvd coming
Review: This is one of Mel Gibsons best movie's ranking up there with Braveheart, but a new 2 disc dvd will be released on march 23, so wait for it and get the good edtion.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Funny, suspenseful, AND action-packed
Review: This movie is one of a kind. Mel Gibson's acting job is equal to that of his role in Braveheart. The movie has an incredible cast and an exciting story line. Suspense, action, and humor are succesfully woven into the plot wihtout making the movie "corny" or ridiculous. This is one of the best action-suspense thrillers out there.
