What was Paramount thinking when they released this chopped up version of this great movie? I still have my version that I taped off of The Movie Channel in 1986(!)which is the original version. There are scenes that are cut/shortened in this dvd release and there are scenes that are even arranged in an entirely different order than the original movie! I waited for years for this movie to be released on dvd.What a big disappointment.Don't waste your money on this dvd version.Try to find a copy of the unrated vhs release and see this movie as it was meant to be seen!
Paramount: Don't you think you need to release the ORIGINAL version of this movie? Sales would probably be better.Some extra features that the other reviewers mentioned would be nice.Maybe a commentary by Barbara Williams and the other stars???

Review: One night, while flipping the channels, i came across the most amazing movie about Love and danger, the two combined made this movie soooo great! If your looking for that all time love story, here it is. Steve Bauer is sooo cute...I fell in love with him with i saw this moive, and the soundtrack as well...if you know were i can find the soundtrack, let me know pleassse! thanks :)

Summary: If you don't like romantic movies, then don't buy this one!
Review: Steven Bauer (later co-starred in Scarface) plays a big-time arts thief who, while ransacking the home of his latest hapless victims, stumbles across the diaries of the wife. Bauer becomes obsessed by the journals and is determined to meet & become the "perfect" lover she describes in the logs. The rest of the story is sort of feelgoodish and the ending is even better. I liked this movie because I like Steven Bauer, but I suspect anyone else would enjoy the movie if they have 90 minutes and nothing else to watch.

Summary: The Ultimate Escapist Chick Flick!
Review: The premise - how does it feel to be able to meet and then fall head over heels in love with your dream guy who willingly reinvents himself for you and loves you unconditionally?I first watched "Thief of Hearts" back in 1985 with my mom and was very moved by the poignancy of it all. It has been 17 years since, but feel no differently as I re-watched it on DVD. (Why did they not at least include a director's commentary in the bonus materials)? The ending sequence was particularly heart-wrenching as Steven Bauer's character, albeit nothing more than a common burglar, broke into tears when he realised the fantasy world he had created for himself was over, but was nonetheless defended the love of his life despite it all. Unlike many American movies where script-writers / directors inadvertently feel hard-pressed to end a movie on a positive note, kudos to the restrain applied to the finale, proffering the only credible, but no less cathartic, ending to a doomed love affair.

Review: This 1984 film is a fantasy/Drama designed for the Fame and Flashdance crowd. Complete with a well thought out soundtrack made for success, this movie took a step closer to romantic and sexual than it's predecessors. It also included a "rear" look a Steven Bauer ...! You can see even more clearly on DVD!
It's funny to watch this movie so many years later. You see it much differently than the first time movie theater viewing. The styles are very 80's, from Barbra Williams versitile permed bob (updo, curly, straight and wavy) to marital problems of the 80's (succesfull husband not paying attention to his wife's carreer and sexual spontinaety). This type of scenario makes it very easy for young and handsome professional thief (Steven Bauer) to enter into her life.
This kind of movie is common these days on the Lifetime channel. If you enjoy all that, this movie is for you! The only thing missing from this movie on DVD is the extras that selll the other DVD's. Where is the rare musical video for the title song sung by Melissa Manchester in a steamy shower scene with Steven Bauer? Where is the video for Love In The Shadows sung by EG Daily (who recently updated this song) or footage by the stars involved?

Review: This has already been expressed here in the reviews, but just as a reminder one more time..... this DVD is NOT the original version. The original version has more material and is much better. Hopefully someday they'll release an Unrated Version the way it was on VHS at one time.

Review: This is definetly a "chick flick". Very erotic! Saw this movie many years ago and left an impression on me. Can never find it for rent or even for sale locally. So decided to buy my own copy to share with my girlfriends. And so far all who have seen it have loved it. Husbands and boyfriends will probably not see the appeal!~~s~
