Rating: Summary: WORST SUMMER OF MY LIFE Review: I went to this movie expecting to see a good crime drama, what I got however, was a paranoid idiot running around for 2hrs babbling about how he almost got shot(too bad he did'nt!) the movie would have been shorter and I would have at least part of my life back that I wasted on this piece of junk. Spike should have told us that the S.O.S murders were not part of the plot,he just needed a catchy title. To say I was dissapointed in this movie would be a gross understatement,a more fair statement of fact would be to say,it was definately one of the worst Summers of my life.
Rating: Summary: Turd Has More Appeal. Review: It's amazing how this student film-maker manages to get money to produce these low-life productions. Who ever told Spike he could make "quality" movies must have been as disillusioned as he. Italians must have beat Spike up during his childhood. I don't understand his fixation with underminding Italians. And how about that oscar performance Spike displayed? Way to go into the sewer, Spike. Grammer school plays have actors with more ability. Yet another example of how poor the industry has become. Amazon needs to have a NO star ballot. Giving this bile a star is pure pity.
Rating: Summary: I am making this quick Review: I know everyone will probably hate this review but I watched this movie twice in two days with different people and loved it both times. One of the best movies I have ever, EVER, seen.
Rating: Summary: YOU HAD TO BE A NEW YORKER TO FEEL THE POWER OF THIS MOVIE! Review: LIKE A LOT OF THINGS THAT GO ON IN NEW YORK, YOU HAD TO BE A NEW YORKER TO FEEL THE POWER OF THIS MOVIE! SPIKE GOT ALOT OF BAD PRESS FOR DOING THIS MOVIE. I BELEIVE THAT IT IS BECAUSE HE TAKES YOU BACK TO A TIME THAT EVERYONE WOULD LIKE TO FORGET AND PLACES YOU IN THAT FEAR THAT US NEW YORKERS FELT. HATS OFF TO SPIKE FOR DOING THIS MOVIE. KEEP PUMPING THEM OUT SPIKE!
Rating: Summary: Good, But Not Great! Review: This movie had it's moments. For one thing the nice amount of music that they had in it and some of the gory shootings that this so called ".44 Calibur Killer" did to nearly every brunnette girl in NYC in 1968-1977. It also has it's disturbing moments like the violent outbursts that the killer gets just when he hears his neighbours dog barking. This movie to me is Rated R because of the EXTREME amount of coarse language and Violence. Also going on to my next topic "SEX" I know that a lot of grown men like to watch this kinda stuff just for the sex but this movie had it's fair amounts of sex in it. If I was a parent I would never ever let a child under the age of 15 watch this movie it is just a really disturbing movie but also the storyline was a masterpiece. I am not really a Spike Lee fan but this movie I would have to say is one of his best.
Rating: Summary: Lee goes back to his 'Do The Right Thing' roots ! Review: Lock up the kids, & crank up your amp, Spike Lee scores a 5 star hit with this superb masterpiece. I was glued from start to finish. The script, music, direction & acting are superb. Laced with violence, sex, bad language, racial tension & even an orgy scene ! this is one not to miss !
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT! Review: This movie is great I am from Brooklyn and maybe someone outside of the NYC area wouldn't "get it" but I thought that it was great. I am not a fan of Spike Lee's but he impressed me with this one! And Adrien Brody is such a hotty! You must see this for yourself and if you are from the NYC area and remember the 70's you will love it trust me!
Rating: Summary: Summer Of Sam Review: This film blew me away. It features incredible imagery and performances. The cinematography really made my jaw drop. It is incredible. The performances are all break out ones. Especially John Leguizamo's as Vinny, the cheating hairdresser. The use of music in some scenes really adds to the effect of the film overall, but could also be viewed as a seperate piece altogether, a music video. The fact that many people say it portrays Italian Americans unfairly does not make sense. As I saw John Leguizamo say, everyone who worked on this films name ended in a vowel. The film really conveys well what heat, over population, testostarone and minorities can do to humans. My second favorite Spike Lee film after "Do The Right Thing". This could almost be a sequel.
Rating: Summary: COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER Review: "Spike Lee's attempt to "do the WHITE thing"turned into little more than a porno with no plot, an uninterestingstoryline, no conclusive ending, and a talking dog. The real Son of Sam claimed a dog made him do it, but in reality he was probably just some nut who got his sick thrills out of killing. Since there was no proof, why add the dog? The film portrayed Americans with Italian heritage with Hollywood stereotype. A film idea about New York City in the midst of a heat wave, a blackout and riots, and everyone gripped in the paranoia and fear of a stalking serial killer sounded very intriguing. Too bad Lee couldn't do better with that idea. I don't speak for all of Lee's films. I thought Boyz n the Hood was a good movie, though its prejudices are still very one sided. I've been meaning to see Do the Right Thing, which I hear is an outstanding movie.
Rating: Summary: Another great Soike Lee joint Review: What's wrong with you. Accusing Spike Lee of Bigotry. Excuse me, is Martin Scorsese any better? It is actually possible to watch the film without jumping to those conclusions. What a great soudtrack. Spike Lee is also accused of repeatedly using some of The Who's great songs. Is that wrong too? I believe that's the point. In fact I think Lee is one of those who manages to use the music the right way and not only as dull background fill in. He does not only attack you, he's packed and his weapon is music. I didn't grow up in The Bronx and I don't know if this film describes the real happenings in a good way. But I know one thing. This piece of film takes me away for awhile. Forget the politics. Sit back and enjoy.
