Summary: Underrated Film
Review: I feel "Wild Things" is such an underrated film. I have new respect for its Executive Producer, Kevin Bacon, who does a great job in his role. There is no reason to discuss the plot....just watch it from beginning to end and don't miss a single detail. Its writing is strong, and its script is full of surprises every step along the way. Bill Murray steals the show as a two-bit hustling lawyer who hits the big time, and even a good, matter-of-fact performance by Robert Wagner (who we rarely see these days)

To all the movies' performers: You made a good choice in taking the roles.

"Wild Things" is a truly unique movie that will keep you entertained, regardless of how many times you see it. The DVD has excellent sound and picture quality. The recurring main theme song instrumental is hauntingly appropriate. A good deviation from the "formula" movies popular in the past decade or so.

Summary: Loaded With Twists and Turns
Review: The plot line of this movie is so complicated, you might go dizzy trying to follow it, but this is a very good film. It stars Matt Dillon as Sam, a high school guidance counselor, Denise Richards as Kelly, one of Sam's students, and Neve Campbell as Susie, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Kelly is fed up with her overbearing mom, so she comes up with a plot to get back at her. This is where the fun and action begins. The storyline is fast-paced and full of action, but one must watch the film closely so nothing is missed. The scenes between Campbell and Richards make this movie worth watching. Overall, I enjoyed this movie because it always kept you guessing and I never knew what was going to happen next. I recommend this movie, but be sure to pay close attention to the storyline, or you will be lost.

Summary: Worse than your wildest dreams.
Review: This film is meant to be light, and 'outrageous', with plot contortions aplenty. Fine. But what if you couldn't care less about a single one of the characters (I use the last term loosely)? For me, that takes any sting out of a plot twist, and makes for a very long one hundred plus minutes of film. The term 'melodrama' is used in some reviews, but if you're expecting a sensibility similar to Douglas Sirk's or, for that matter, even 'Dallas', forget about it - there ain't too much intelligence behind the shlock here. The characters are not even parodies of stereotypes (they struggle to muster sufficient depth to be worthy of the term 'stereotype') - the dialogue is definitely not 'over-the-top', but merely wooden and dreary. The acting is empty and uninteresting (save for Bill Murray, who stands out simply by investing his role with a little energy and self-consciousness). So when the unexpected plot twists start their twisting, it's like watching plastic dolls go spinning, not even facsimiles of people - any episode of 'Law and Order' is more 'surprising' and, not withstanding the New York detectives' complete absence of any facial expressions, more involving.
*
There is also the issue of Ms.Denise Richards revealing her silicone implants and of Mr.Dillon (who appears to have had botulinum toxin injections to neutralise his facial expressions too (hmmm, perhaps he could be in for a guest role you know where)) touching these surgical enhancements, and of Ms.Neve Campbell and Ms.Richards kissing each other. This is all about as exciting as an old episode of 'Days of Our Lives'. And, yes, Kevin does indeed show us his Bacon - not just us, but Mr.Dillon (who looks singularly unimpressed (or was that the botox?)).
*
So, be warned, you might find 'Wild Things' even worse than you expected.

Summary: Wild Movie with great Twists
Review: Set in "Blub Bay", this film follows the character, Sam Lombardo(Matt Damon), a teacher who has slept with half the women in his town. Things are going pretty well for him until two girls, Susie (Neve Campbell) and Kelly (Denise Richards), accuse him of sexual molesting them. His reputation was almost ruined, but then Susie and Kelly came clean and admitted that he didn't really do anything to them. I don't want to give anything else away because there are so many twists, and the movie wouldn't be as schocking if you weren't suprised. Go see it!

Summary: Sneaky Cats
Review: Too hot even for me! This movie must have come out of an oven, it's burning with hot! I can taste the spices, yes! Mr. Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is a respected high school teacher in Miami who is accused of raping his students. I was flabbergasted with the deceit and wrongful accusations in this movie. Denise Richards is a popular cheerleader and Neve Campbell is a bayou chick! Don't eat alligators and careful with those snakes. Bill Murray is a shady lawyer who helps Lombardo get out of jail. Even Kevin Bacon is in this! Hamanee stars are there? I feel like taking a vacation to Miami and living the life by sailing. The movie has plenty of twists and you'll be surprised with the ending. I needed some ice to cool down the television!

Summary: Guilty Pleasure
Review: Yes, this movie is verrry entertaining. (more twists than a pretzel factory.) However, it's extremely obvious that 99% of this movie is based on some guy's fantasies. i.e.: Denise Richards beating up Neve Campbell, then parting her hair and asking, "You are scared, aren't you?" while following a passionate girl-on-girl kissfest; 2 girls washing a jeep getting soaking wet; threesome between 2 girls & Matt Dillon; the list goes on and on. But hey, regardless of all of that, it's very intriguing. It's a guilty pleasure; you can't help but enjoy it. You won't be able to tell who's screwing who until the very end. Bottom Line: This movie is enjoyable, whether you're a guy or a girl.

Summary: twisted wows
Review: Excellent performances in a movie that never quits trying to fake you out. It's hard not to enjoy a movie with beautiful scenes of the everglades,an excellent score,Matt Dillon,Kevin Bacon,Neve Campbell and a whole lot of the gorgeous and talented Denise Richards. The secondary actors were also excellent. Be sure to catch Carrie Snodgrass in a small part. She's put on a few pounds since Pale Rider but she could always act. She has the advantage of having one of the most irritating voices in the movies. This film will keep your attention for one reason or another throughout. It's possible that the sexy scenes might offend some, but you can always close your eyes(can't you?).If you watch this film it will keep you entertained.

Summary: [Provocative]film noir thriller a little lacking in originality
Review: "Wild Things" begins provocatively enough. There are wonderful shots of the Florida Everglades and its wildlife. While the credits roll, we hear music by George S. Clinton. Part African, part Latin and part jazz, the score sets the tone perfectly.

Next we see helicopter views, in which we quickly travel from the Everglades to overhead shots of Miami. The sudden contrast between wildlife habitats and human ones is startling.

The film begins to slowly go downhill from here, finally reviving at the very end.

I don't want to be too harsh on "Wild Things" because it is decent suspense thriller entertainment. I rate films against ones of the same type. This picture is especially unoriginal. There are plot elements that seem lifted straight out of other films. These include "Body Heat", "Masquerade", "Bad Influence" and a movie named "Palmetto", which also took place on the Florida seashore and was released several months before "Wild Things".

Matt Dillon plays a high school career guidance counselor named Ray Duquette, who works in what seems the be Beverly Hills High School - Miami branch.

He is accused of sexual assault on two of his students, Susie Toller [Neve Campbell] and Sandra Van Ryan [Denise Richards]. An investigation is begun by two cops, Sam [Kevin Bacon] and Gloria [Daphne Rubin-Vega]. This finally results in Ray's arrest. He swears he is innocent. The plot, as they say, then thickens. In this film, it threatens to thicken into concrete at times.

The town is given a made up name, although it's obviously a very rich area of Miami. Why all these wealthy teenagers attend a public high school remains a mystery. Even more baffling is why Neve Campbell's character, who is from the wrong side of the wrong side of the tracks, attends the school. She lives miles away and seems to be the only student whose parents make less than $500,000 annually.

Apparently, the whole town lives in fear of the Van Ryan family, especially Susie's mother, Kelly [Theresa Russell]. No reason is ever shown for being afraid of them.

Kevin Bacon, who started his film career in 1978 in "Animal House" has had a bumpy career. It revived again in 1995's "Apollo 13". Matt Dillon, too, has taken a long time to be in successful films. He turned around in 1997 with "In and Out" and stars in the surprise megahit, "There's Something About Mary" [not yet on video].

Neve Campbell is, of course, the heroine of the "Scream" series, part three of which is due out next year. In "Wild Things", she has the only really good part. Her interpretation of the role indicates that she may, indeed, turn out to be a true star.

The director, John McNaughton, is best known for a low budget film released in 1990. It is called "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer". That should tell you something.

Ah, yes! I said the plot picked up at end. There is actually a black screen with only "The End" written on it. Don't turn the DVD off, because the first parts of the credits are interrupted by scenes which show how the criminal characters put together their crimes. This was the only original part of the movie. I've never seen things explained before in this way.

Summary: Far more fun than it should be
Review: There's really little point in summarizing the plot of this absurdity. It's equally unnecessary to analyze the writing, the acting, or anything else in the way of specifics, since they're all pretty much irrelevant. What this film is about is mood. And somehow, rising from its cast of B-movie and B-TV blanks (you know who you are), uneasily grown-up demi-stars, and slumming greats (okay, just one of those in Bill Murray, who looks like he's embarassed to be having this good a time), and its Miami-Vice out-take footage, there's a sweet noir sweat which hits early and refuses to go away. It may not be exactly brilliant, but it's brilliantly entertaining. Perhaps unintentionally (although isn't it pretty to think that it was purposeful?), the makers of this movie have managed to create something which transcends not just itself, bt also a whole lot of things trying to pass themselves off as art.

Summary: You don't see this type of film every day
Review: Wild Things kicked some major behind. I would like to go into the plot but it is so convoluted that it would take all day and the some, okay? The plot twists are reminscient of something you would see in those old Hitchcock films but it isn't nearly as terrifying as a Hitchcock film. This film revolves around a guidance counselor portrayed by Matt Dillon, two girls who accuse him of rape, Neve Campbell from the Scream series and Denise Richards (who is downright entertainingly annoying), and the cop investigating, Kevin Bacon. Set in the swamps of South Florida, this film is a perfect case study of man's obssession with the dollar bill and sexual manipulation. Two scenes that sparked the disgust of moviegoers and critics alike are the love scenes involving the guidance counselor and the girls and their kissing session in the other's lavish swimming pool. Now, I'm no pervert but I do know a good throw in when I see it. The producers added these scenes to keep their audience's attention. The love scenes are not what made this film a good one. Added to the mix is the comic genius of Bill Murray as a scheming lawyer who is the comic relief and he does not disappoint, either. Also, another impressive plot twist is the ending which, unconsciously, sees the underdog triumph. While I won't give away plot details, I will say this: It is interesting to see that in a film like this that the character who is least likely to succeed is the one who actually makes it. I recommend it for fans of great film noir, not for fans who want to see it as a sleazy competitor for 1992's Basic Instinct.
