Rating: Summary: Very Predictable "Thriller" Review: "The Crush" is "Lolita" updated for the 1990s. A handsome, twenty-something writer named Nick rents a guest house from a wealthy couple, whose over-spoiled, sexually precocious daughter Darien, develops an obsessive crush on him.The film can hardly be called a thriller, as every development in the story is broadcast from 100 miles away. When Nick becomes too affectionate with Darien, you know she will later use that against him. When he meets Samantha on the first day of his new job, you know they'll end up dating, and you know Darien will do something nasty to her. When Samantha encounters the wasps' hive, you know that something will involve bees. When Nick goes into the house to look for the photo Darien stole, you know he's going to end up in a compromising position. When Darien's friend Cheyenne wants to speak privately to Nick about Darien, you know something unpleasant will happen to Cheyenne. When you first see the attic, with its creepy old carousel, you know the final confrontation will take place there. And on and on and on; there isn't one moment in this film that is not completely predictable. Silverstone is charming,...pouty, and sometimes even funny as the nymphette Darien; however, she is anything but scary. Despite all her manipulative ways, Darien is about as menacing as a cupcake-- Silverstone would go on to do far better work than this, especially in "Clueless." Likewise Elwes is adequate as nice-guy-in-a-bind Nick, but he has done better work both before and after this film. The only real light in the cast is Matthew Walker, who brings a nice touch to Michael, Nick's boss (and later his defender). Viewers of TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" will recognize Amber Benson as the hapless Cheyenne, demonstrating then (as she does every week now) her singular lack of thespian skill. In the five years between "The Crush" and "Buffy," Benson obviously did not learn how to act; she plays both characters so much alike that they are virtually indistinguishable.
Rating: Summary: a scary sexy thriller with the shades of revese lolita. Review: A few titillating looks of a YOUNG stone cold fox (check out the scene in slomo as she walks down the hallway away from the bathroom if you know what I mean)and a story line to scare any man who is dating a woman under the age of 25.
Rating: Summary: Alicia Silverstone makes a great debut Review: Alicia Silverstone was in a TV movie, but "The Crush" was her first major movie, and she did a great job. She plays as a 14 year old girl who has an obsessive crush on her new babysitter, a 28 year old journalist (Cary Elwes). The guy tells her that he's not interested because she's too young, but she just won't give up with her obsessive crush, and ends up getting him in major trouble. "The Crush" isn't one of my favorite movies of all time, but it is a good movie to watch. It has a great acting and it's even a little bit suspenseful at times. I recommend anybody to at least watch "The Crush," if not buy it.

Rating: Summary: WHAT HAPPENED IN THE END???? Review: All of a sudden when i was flipping channels I landed on The crush.Im happy I got to this movie because it was just great. Fatal Attraction is kind of like this but The crush is better because the girl doin the damage was 14. That is original and strange. The funniest part was when She bruised herself up and got the guy introuble. SHe was just grinning her face off.
Rating: Summary: Great Fun Review: Although there are blatant references to "Lolita" (dig Alicia Silverstone in her huge sunglasses and swimsuit gazing up at Cary Elwes), "The Crush" is a suitable thriller despite being very predictable. The premise is simple: Silverstone plays a fourteen year old who develops a crush on Elwes, who is a 28 year old newspaper reporter and has just moved into an apartment on the grounds of her family home. Elwes is dating Jennifer Rubin, and she's aware of the vibes being sent by Silverstone. But Elwes is either naive or enjoys the attention (you decide!!!) and puts himself into several compromising situations with Silverstone. Silverstone, who's clearly unstable, tightens the noose from then on, and eventually attempts to kill Elwes. The ending, also predictable, is appropriate. This certainly isn't going to be on anyone's list of all-time best films, but it's worth owning on DVD (despite the fact that there's little that separates the VHS from the DVD). You'll enjoy popping it in every once in a while for a good scare. If nothing else, guys, you'll be very careful who you flirt with after watching this one.
Rating: Summary: 'The Crush' is an excellent thriller! Review: As a die hard Alicia Silverstone fanatic, I bought 'The Crush' with high hopes. Although harrassed by the critics, a shocking discovery was placed on my hands: it's an excellent movie. Sexual obsession and childish innocence form as one, creating Darian (Silverstone). Nick (Elwes), realizing the harm headed his way when Darian reveals her "crush", gets caught up in a violent swirl of events that lead to the ultimate finale in which Silverstone's acting abilities shine through. 'The Crush' was no waste of cash and the movie cover is to DIE for! Those glasses...those pouting lips...that evil glare. For true excitement, rent 'The Crush' today.
Rating: Summary: Watch Out! Review: Darian Forrester (Silverstone) is a 14 year-old Girl rapidly blossoming into a woman at a immense rate. Her IQ is above average and her eye for detail flawless. After earning himself a job working for a decidedly well thought-of magazine, Journalist Nick Eliot (Elwes) scans the neighbouring houses with a room to let. Shaken-up after practically knocking down Darian after she skated into the wheels of his arriving car, he notices that her residence has a guest house to let and after viewing the named house, snaps it up with no more then a few Ums and Errs. After a few days, Darian is smitten with the new lodger and things begin to lead themselves down the wrong path. After a kiss initiated by Darian, Nick backs off, and dismayed by his actions, warns off Darian. Skimpily clad in diminutive bikini's, provocative clothing and breath-taking body language, Darian refuses to take no for an answer and subsequent to attacking his lover, persists to abuse her welcome, with the police having to stand in within the concluding half hour. Suffocating and thought-provoking, this a tall-tale that mirrors many a headline currently splashed on newspapers worldwide. Shapiro's direction is at times warped and the pacing does have its flaws, but yet it seems to work out and leaves you fulfilled with the end product. By far Silverstone's Best role yet, with only 'Clueless' to contend with, while Elwes's appeal is strong, and sporadically exasperating, is every now and then overruled by his 14 year-old counterpart. A great movie with bright sets and a proficient script, this is in no way Cinema at its best, but yet a worthy edition to your home library.
Rating: Summary: Not great, but watchable and enjoyable. Review: From the word go, THE CRUSH is an obvious retread of familiar FATAL ATTRACTION/SINGLE WHITE FEMALE hijinks. Still, it's not a bad movie, and it does have at least one thing going for it, the auspicious debut of beautiful and talented young Alicia Silverstone. As the disturbed Lolita who menaces the attractive, but slightly dim-witted young man who moves into her family's guesthouse, Silverstone is truly radiant and believable every moment. I thought the ending of this movie was a little over-the-top, but otherwise it's a pretty good little thriller, owing mostly to the strong presence of Silverstone. Don't listen to those critics. Give it a try for yourself. You might find something that they don't!
Rating: Summary: The Crush Review: Great Fun! If I hadn't seen it on t.v., I never would have seen it anywhere else. I saw it while flipping through channels and was late to a meeting because I couldn't stop watching it, I had to see what was going to happen in the end.
