Summary: along came a spider
Review: opinion-this movie is, simple put, a masterpiece. This is no doubt the best movie of the year.

review-"Along Came a Spider" is a thriller/suspense movie in a which an mayor's daughter is unsuspectingly kindnapped by a teacher. This is, in reality, no teacher.Though they think the little girl was at a meeting with mr. sonjei, she was really being halled away by the "teacher".The story then branches off into different things in which i wont tell you. This movie is scary, thrilling, suprising, sad at times, shocking, and brutally real.

end-if you want a great thrilling movie, go watch this.Dont listen to these over-expectors.

Review: I saw this movie a couple of days ago, and I expected a good action thriller. Though the movie had very little action, it did include a good mystery. There were a few things I liked, a few I didn't. Here they are:

The Good:

Morgan Freeman did an excellent job as Alex Cross. He was believable and is an incredibly good actor. The plot was good, and the script was actually decent, something I haven't seen in many movies lately, but that's because of James Patterson, I assume.

The Bad:

The opening scene had terrible special effects. The car falling over the side looked incredibly fake, Air Force One-like...when the plane crashed into the water. Other than Freeman, the rest of the acting was mediocre to subpar, besides Monica Potter, who did play a pretty believable part.

Overall, Along Came a Spider isn't the best thriller I have ever seen, but it's a good watch. My advice is wait until this goes to the budget theatre or out to video. It's good, but I think some people might be disappointed if they pay 8 bux to see a movie that's not superb...all in all, if it wasn't for Morgan Freeman's performance, this film would be a flop.

Summary: date flick @ best
Review: an unassuming way to spend a couple of hours - but don't expect much more. good for a date, because there will be some moments when you cling - but not so many that you won't have time to get replenishment refreshments.

i can't quite figure out why this film doesn't work. it starts off with a good beginning that is supposed to explain why alex cross (morgan freeman) is so disaffected towards his work. problem is that you just don't believe it. i'm not sure if this is because of bad acting (which is uncharasteric of freeman's work), bad writing (the likely culprit) or weak directing (clearly a strong assist). in any case, all it takes for dr. cross to get back into the swing of things is a call from a psycho kidnapper. hey, if we only know...

the plot holes grow from there. frankly, i didn't really care. partially because i wasn't all that engaged, partially because i wasn't expecting that much. pacing of the film is uneven with some parts getting pretty dull. the ending is ludicrous - you could count the plot flaws, inconsistencies, and holes, but you'd quickly run out of fingers. the most annoying part is the barnaby jones approach. (for those of you who don't remeber the barnaby jones tv show - it would always have a plot twist that you couldn't predict. annoying, because withholding information is an unfair means of coming up w/ an unexpected ending)

on an aside, it' amazing how much monica potter looks and sounds like julia roberts. she's gonna give kyra sedgwick a run for her money as "julia clone."

Summary: A By-the-Numbers Thriller that Serves its Purpose.
Review: As I am a Big Fan of "Kiss the Girls", a Hugh Fan of Morgan Freeman and a Colossal Fan of the Thriller Genre, I knew from the time I First laid eyes on the "Along Came a Spider" poster that I was going to, at the Very Least, Enjoy this movie. Enjoy it I Did, but Viewers who aren't such Die Hard Devotees of the Genre mightn't be as Forgiving as I am.

In "Along Came a Spider", which is actually a Prequel to "Kiss the Girls", Freeman again stars as Alex Cross, Famed Novelist and Detective who gets involved in a High-Profile Kidnapping by the Kidnapper Himself. Soneji (Michael Wincott) has read Cross' Books and wants him In on the Chase. The Girl he Kidnapped was a Senators Daughter and the Authorities need all the help they can get. Cross enlists the help of the kidnapped girls Secret Service agent, Jessie Flannigan (Monica Potter), and Together, they set out to Capture Sonjei and get the Girl back Alive.

Morgan has played not only This role before ("Kiss the Girls"), but his played this Kind of role Numerous times before ("Seven" and "Under Suspicion"), so it's Not much of a Stretch for him, he knows Exactly what to do and When to do it, there aren't many Surprises for him, or the Audience for that matter. Morgan has seen this kind of Role before and We the Audience have seen this kind of Film before. Monica Potter is Serviceable in her role; she does get Better as the film goes along. Michael Wincott is the Real Winner in the Acting Category; I was on His side after his First line of Dialogue. He is one of my Favourite Character Actors and he Stole the Film in my Opinion. Penelope Ann Miller is Totally Wasted in a Grossly Underwritten role. Mika Boorem, who played the Kidnapped girl, is Wonderful. She doesn't Overdo the Hysterics of her Situation, she plays it Smartly and her performance is Always Believable. Dylan Baker gives a Great Supporting performance in a Well Written role.

The film does have some High Points that Warrant Recommendation. The "Cliffhanger" style Opening is an Eye catcher. The scenes where Wincott and Freeman are together, weather it's on the phone or Onscreen, they bring out the Best in Each Other. Michael Wincott... He is worth Admission Prices or Purchase Prices alone. What I Didn't like was Director Lee Tamahori's lack of Energy in his Directing. He lets the film down by not seeming to Care about what's going on. The Ending is also a Major Let down, it comes out of Nowhere and it's Over way to Quickly. It all looks Very Rushed or Changed due to Test Screenings.

Devotee's of the Genre and Fans of the "Alex Cross series" should give it a look, anyone else should look elsewhere, as this will Not show you anything you haven't seen before. But, in the end it's a Thriller that serves up a few Thrills, so it's Served its Purpose. I would like to see Morgan give the Alex Cross character One more go, as I believe the guy still has One Big Hunt left in him. Let's just hope that he has some Originality left in him too.

Summary: Along came an actual good prequil!
Review: I saw the first movie(kiss the girls) with ashley judd, Tony Goldwyn, and Morgan Freeman. I thought it was ok. Then I saw this movie. It was very good and I highly recomend it. Its not as scary as you might think it looks. Its more so a mystery movie. We dont have to many of those today! If you havent seen the first movie(kiss the girls) dont worry because you dont need to! well unless you want to know more about Morgan Freemans charecter. If your not a Morgan Freeman or Monica Potter fan or not a sico killer movie fan eaither just dont see it or wait for video!

Summary: This is a horrid little movie
Review: Since I work at a movie theatre I decided to watch this one night and thank goodness I didn't have to pay for it. I never saw Kiss the Girls, but I felt that Morgan Freeman was just playing the same type of character he always plays. The older detective that always knows what's going on, and if he doesn't he figures it out soon enough. He needs to step away from these roles cause he's getting lax in playing them. I felt he put no effort into this part. The story itself is not strong enough to make a movie about. At no time in the course of the movie did I care what was going to happen to any of the characters. The CGI work at the beginning is probably the worst I've ever seen. The whole car flipping and tumbling look so horrible and fake that it would have been more effective if they hadn't shown it and just described it. Pass on this one, even if you don't have to pay for it.

Review: Starving for a good who done it, I was thrilled by the trailer for this movie. Don't be fooled. This predictable, slow moving film bored the heck out of me. Don't waste the...(money).

Summary: Very Good Acting, Good Music Score.
Review: Morgan Freeman reprises his role as Dr. Alex Cross in this political thriller as the daughter of a senator is kidnapped and Dr. Cross must following a conflicting set of clues to find her before it is too late. Story takes many turns along the way as the case gets ever more complex and the ending will surprise you. Featureing music by the ever prolific Jerry Goldsmith.
