Summary: great remake with great extras
Review: I bought this DVD mostly because Dial M for Murder isn't available on DVD yet, but I did like this remake of it on its anyway. I saw it in the theater once, but watching it again has made me appreciate it a lot more. The DVD is very well done, with an alternate ending with Director's Commentary that I tend to prefer over the ending seen in the film.

Summary: Dial M on a cell phone.
Review: The butchering of a Hitchcock classic. It was "perfect" the first time around as "Dial 'M' for Murder." Obviously Hollywood cannot think of anything new and must ruin a classic by adding bad actors and extra sex and violence. I'm glad I waited for video, but sorry I wasted my time.

Summary: No sympathy or emotion for any of the three leads.
Review: Plot: Man (Douglas) on the verge of bankruptcy finds out his $100 million dollar wife (Paltrow) is cheating on him. What to do? Kill her! Better yet, hire her boyfriend (Mortensen) to do it. None of the leads are likeable. Husband is coldly calculating. Wifey is a prissy adultress. Boyfriend is a sleazy blackmailer. Which makes the viewer wonder, who cares who dies? Twists and turns create a small amount of suspense. Will Wifey discover the plot before its too late? Will Cop realize Husband's cruel intentions? Will Boyfriend successfully screw over not only Wifey but also Husband? The ending is disappointing and would have been worth the wait if it had been shrewder, smarter, more clever. Douglas is finely cast (typecast) as icily greedy conspirator but Paltrow did not appear equal to the Gracey Kelley role in this movie based on Dial M for Murder. The age difference was glaring and Paltrow inexplicably spoke foreign languages to people who were speaking to her in clear English. That peculiar trait heightened my dislike of Paltrow's character. Douglas and Paltrow were unevenly matched because Paltrow came across like a teenager and Douglas came across as a disciplinarian father. Unfortunately, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathleen Turner, and Sharon Stone were all probably too expensive to fill the role. Or did Hollywood consider these acting vets to be too inappropriately close in age to Douglas? Your loss Hollywood! Recommended instead: Dial M for Murder. Double Indemnity. Body Heat.

Summary: Stylish thriller, but falters at the end
Review: A sort-of remake of Dial M for Murder, A Perfect Murder throws in several new twists and turns. While that film was more of a play than a movie, this tells the story of a wealthy New York commodities trader, his trophy wife, and the painter that she is cheating on her husband with. The Upper East Side of New York looks beautiful, and the actors are all good, including Douglas, whose character is a late 90's update of Wall Street's Gordon Gekko. However, the plot twists toward a tired and obvious conclusion. This one had me until the last ten minutes.

Summary: Perfectly Entertaining
Review: A tightly plotted, beautifully mounted updating of Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" that grabs your attention during the opening credits and doesn't let go until the final scene. Douglas, Paltrow, and Mortensen are all superbly cast in their roles. Each plays a character whose true nature and motives are revealed slowly, in sometimes astonishing layers, and the film works as well as it does in large part because each actor gives a carefully nuanced performance that retains consistency despite the twists and turns of the intricate plot.

The DVD transfer is just about flawless, with crisp, sharp visuals and pure sound. The alternate ending is the kind of bonus material that makes the DVD format so exciting for cinema buffs but the absence of the theatrical trailer is a big disappointment. Still, this movie is recommended for fans of Douglas, Paltrow, and the mystery-thriller genre. (And trivia buffs will want to watch for David Eigenberg of TV's "Sex and the City" as one of Douglas' employees.)

Summary: SCREAM for adults!
Review: I saw this movie in theaters, but I just watched it again on HBO and I still love it! It has a brilliant, engrossing plot with the few twists thrown in. I read the book, DIAL M FOR MURDER, and it's not near as good as A PERFECT MURDER. The acting was also great, especially Gwyneth Paltrow. If you want to see a twisted, thrilling gem, then watch A PERFECT MURDER :)

Summary: A Decent Film Does Deliver Good Acting From Michael Douglas.
Review: a remake of the classic dial m for murder with a little more style and depth. Michael Douglas plays a powerful sucsesful businesman with a younger unfaithful wife who is cheeting on him with a mystroius artist who is really a con man. Douglas finds this out and tries to make a deal with her lover to have her killed, but of course things don`t go as planed and doublecrosses ensure to the point where everyone involed in this twisted game gets what they deserve. Michael douglas as always gives a profesinal convincing performance but Gwyneth Paltrow was far too young and not really all that convincing in her role as the unfaithful wife. But the film does maintain a proper balence of intrigue and suspense throught the enitire film and it comes off very well.
