Summary: This film is only disliked by the brain dead!
Review: If you typically spend most of your movie time watching car chases and people being blown away, you'll probably think that this film starts slow.

However, if you want to see what quality acting REALLY is, you've got to watch the Spanish Prisoner.

The acting is natural and provacative, the mulit-layered plot is facinating. With each viewing I learn more and grow in my appriciation for this film.

Hitchcock buffs - this is a must see!

Proof that, although under appreciated, quality film is not dead - AND - does not have to insult it's audience with the stock gratuitous sex and violence that many of todays untallented "hack" directors use.

Summary: Almost as good...
Review: Mamet's "The Spanish Prisoner" is almost as good as his 1987 "House of Games," an excellent film. If you like The Spanish Prisoner, and you will, see House of Games. The acting is superb - it is Mamet style, far from wooden and cliche. Don't miss this movie!

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: This movie is Mamet's worst yet. The acting is wooden and cliche, the writing is as bad as it gets, and the plot was written for the lowest common denominator. This story played out like a murder mystery for idiots. Everything was spelled out and predictable, and nothing was a surprise in this ridiculous farce of a film.

Avoid this movie at all costs. The DVD offers nothing extra over the video, and is an utter waste of money.

Summary: Surprisingly intriguing and very entertaining!
Review: I really didn't want to see this movie at first but i was really surprised at its smart plot and shocking twists.Campbell Scott really is a great actor but i didn't realize until i saw his good performance.Steve Martin is good playing a non-comedic role. And it is a very unusual and original movie. And after seeing this i am very interested in seeing David Mamet's other work.I recommend this movie,to all!

Summary: Great Suspense Thriller!
Review: I would have given this 5 stars if it were a little more conclusive. I enjoyed how it kept my jaw dropping lower and lower as the plot thickened. In one word - WOW!

Summary: Very Entertaining
Review: I would love to meet the people who thought the movie was predictable! It had me guessing the whole time. Maybe I'm dumb or something, but I thought it was brilliant and unpredictable. Of course Rebecca Pidgeon and Steve Martin "seem" suspicious at the beginning, but that's called foreshadowing. And Mamet could have been trying to throw us off the track. The acting was superb. Understated and mysterious, just like it should have been. And I loved Pidgeon's performance and would love to see other movies with her in them. Certainly not a movie for people with really short attention spans, but, eventually, the twists and turns should keep most people entertained.

Summary: .
Review: Worst film based on a work of David Mamet's that I have seen. The only reason this gets 3 stars is because I like Mamet so much, and consequently did enjoy the film, but this was essentially the sole reason. It is a poor movie, which is occasionally clever and consistently interesting, but hardly surprising or original, and generally clumsily executed. I found it fascinating to watch Steve Martin grapple with a role in a Mamet film; he doesn't do an especially great job, but it's sort of fun to watch. I kind of got into the main guy, too, though I'm not sure why. Anyhow, bottom line: for die-hard Mamet fans only -- and don't expect to be blown away in any case. House of Games was much more effective and revolves around similar themes.

Summary: A great suspense movie. Cambell Scott is stunning!!!
Review: I've never seen Steve Martin in any movie that wasn't annoying. But this movie is an exception. Steve Martin is stunning and sane in this movie. On the other hand Scott Camble plays the role of an ingenous brain stormer that gets suckered into a scam to steal is idea. This is turly a movie other writers and directors should look to for inspiration.

Summary: Mamet has Hitchcock in his blood
Review: If you don't think this is one of the best movies ever made, you should stick to watching "Varsity Blues" and not waste your time here
