Rating: Summary: Best movie of all time! Review: I keep WAITING for this to be released on DVD- I've worn out my VHS copy! The finest aspects of this film are in the small details, the most notable being the abrupt change of scenery from modern, East Coast wealth to the sunny suburbs of the Midwest. It really illustrates the contrast between Laura/Sara's (Roberts) two lives. Bergin is effectively creepy in his role as her abusive husband, but the most honest aspect of this film is in the vulnerably sweet relationship that forms between Laura/Sara and her neighbor, Ben (played by Kevin Anderson). You can't help but get swept up in the storybook romance that she seems so determined to prevent. Anderson defenitely stands out in this movie- where has he been since then???
Rating: Summary: Why is this not out on DVD??????? Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Sure, it has its shortcomings, especially the fast-fowardable hat-trying-on scene, but it is ultimately VERY watchable. Patrick Bergin's character is unforgettable in a very negative sense allowing one to wonder if he might have had a very different career in films had he not made this one. It is, indeed, a thriller, but moreso a salute to all women who have the gumption to LEAVE the jerk! I can't figure out especially with Roberts popularity why it's never been released on DVD!
Rating: Summary: Without Julia Roberts this wouldn't even register Review: 'Sleeping With The Enemy' was the movie meant to change Julia Roberts from cute into serious actress. Little did she know it but that wasn't to come for another ten years with 'Erin Brockavich' (where both she and the film are excellent). But the problem with this movie isn't the acting, far from it both Roberts and Bergin are both fine, but the way it takes a familiar subject and treats it in such a boring and disrespectful fashion. It starts off well, with a seemingly idyllic marriage: Laura (Roberts) is fishing for clams on the beach, they've got a gorgeous house by the sea and Roberts basically looks the part of the beautiful wife. However, things start going downhill as soon as hubby starts beating up his wife and Laura hops a bus out of town with a new identity. Right from the very start you can see what's going to happen. Anyone who's watched a few of these movie's knows that when we're told Laura can't swim that it's going to pop up as a plot later on, or that when she flushes her ring down the toilet her husband is going to find it later and realise that she's not really dead. As soon as Laura leaves to start her new life things take an inexplicable change of pace as she romances sickly drama teacher Ben. She bakes apple pie for him and there's a montage where she tries on hats. Wasn't this Roberts trying to prove herself? The audience is certainly likely to forget that here, with Laura putting up only minimal resistance to Ben's advances. Worse still we're not given a glimpse of why Laura stayed with him for all these years other than being told that he didn't used to be like this. After the interlude however we're back into revenge drama as Laura's psychotic husband tracks her down to a market town in Iowa. Unfortunately his revenge seems to mostly consist of straigtening towels in her bathroom and rearranging cans in the cupboard. Any hint of psychological drama is almost entirely down to the actors themselves, who are left pretty much to defend for themselves with an unoriginal script that both looks and feels like a TV drama.
Rating: Summary: Second worst big budget film I have ever seen Review: Yes there are worse movies out there. Most of them made for fun, on a shoe string budget, or as a t.v. movie of the week, but even if this was the 'movie of the week' it would rate no more than two stars. It is a poor movie about a serious subject featureing an abused woman who flees the king of the slime people in to the protective arms of the king of the wussy people. ( If this is an attempt to show that she doesn't need a man to protect her than wuss man is superfluouse to the film and ought not to be in it at all). It has no suspence, no character devolopment, and an heroine that could be outsmarted by a rotton onion. ( I think she flushes her wedding ring on a boat with a self contained tank rather than just dropping it overboard in the ocean (where her body should be anyway) and after the husband finds her, demonstrating that she is a moron, she still makes childish assumptions that lead to almost getting her killed.) I am always amazed when I see the sort of generally high rateing a movie like this gets and it makes me realize that Dr. Seuss still has a huge untapped market of people who would be challenged by his work. After I get done laughting at humanity I weep.
Rating: Summary: Sleeping with the Enemy Review: I love thriller movies and I love Julia Roberts movies that she's in. I liked the boyfriend next door in this movie and the part that he takes her to the university's auditorium where she changes in all those costumes plus then she dances with him to the old rock n roll music. Why don't she find a guy like him, or is he married in real life. Julia Roberts is such a marvelous actress that I just enjoy seeing her around and making new movies. Eric Brockevich was also real good, she played a excellent part. Pretty Woman will always be the best for me. Take care Julia and keep up the good work. God Bless you, Carol

Rating: Summary: The Greatest Suprise Review: A great movie with many surprises. You'll watch it over and over again. A great suspense movie, and one of Julia's First movies where she actually kills somebody. Surprised for not an oscar nominee. Look on the TV first sometimes its on, but you won't be disappointed with owning it.
Rating: Summary: Great movie to watch, in spite of a couple of plot holes Review: This is a creepy but great movie to watch. Kind of makes you want a fresh start of your own after seeing what a great town Julia's characters moves to. And for the viewer from Atlanta, Georgia: the music is called "Symphonie Fantastique" (the selection is "March to the Scaffold"/"Dream of a Witches' Sabbath") and it is by Hector Berlioz. Hope that helps!
Rating: Summary: Mediocre Thriller - Not Julia's Best Work Review: Julia Roberts, she of the million-dollar smile, shines in this otherwise dull, by-the-numbers thriller. Patrick Bergen glowers his way through the movie like a villian straight out of a silent melodrama. You expect him to be kicking widows and orphans out on the street, not traumatizing Julia Roberts. Hokey dialogue, a contrived plot, and murky cinematography make this a lackluster gem in Julia's career. The movie is worth a watch, however, just to see Julia in male drag when she's trying to visit her mom in the nursing home. If Hilary Swank had been unavailable to film "Boys Don't Cry," Julia would have made one hell of a replacement!
