Summary: On my list of favorites (I have hundreds;-)
Review: This film was magical for me, and I've always enjoyed the topic of forbidden love. For those who haven't seen this movie, other reviewers have spelled out the plot very nicely.

The heart of the story is the juxtaposition of the hardened, big city detective in the midst of Amish country, and it centers on his relationship with a young, beautiful Amish woman and her son. Exteme opposites that do, indeed, attract. The sparks fly between them and keeps the viewer captivated (at least it did for me). Kelly McGillis played an exceptional role in this film (her first film, I believe). I'd rate it as her best performance by a long shot. It was also one of Harrison Ford's better roles. And Lukas Haas was very convincing in all but one scene.

The cinematography and Jarre's music was lovingly layered, and displayed throughout the Pennsylvania local. The barn raising scene was especially wonderful, and gives the viewer a true yearning for a simpler, more family-oriented life.

Not everything worked in this picture, however. In a couple of places the editing seemed haphazardly done. The scene where the cops are on the front porch of Ford's sister and questioning her is an example (the voice-over didn't work at all). Also, the scene at the end when Sommer is leading Ford and McGillis out from the barn, you could almost sense the director calling "action" and the scene beginning. Pretty disturbing for this caliber of film. Another minor annoyance was when Danny Glover, after being shot, raises the shotgun toward the ceiling with one hand and pulls the trigger. There was absolutely no recoil. I don't have a clue why this scene wasn't redone. Anyone who knows anything about firearms will shake their heads. Finally, and more importantly, the 'bad' cops just weren't convincing as real people...ala...human flesh and blood. They seemed to be punched out from the standard Hollywood cookie-cutter.

That's a lot of stuff not to like in one of my favorite films (I also have several more minor items that I didn't mention). But I forgave these transgressions to my suspension of disbelief, and ended up really enjoying this film. I haul it out every so often just to be transported to another world and watch a great love story done to perfection (no melodramatic "smaltz" here). Between 1 and 10, I give "Witness" a marginal 8. A little more care in those areas I mentioned and this could have been a 10.

Summary: Awesome Screen Play
Review: While the actors did a WONDERFUL job portraying the characters in the movie - I feel that the underlying brilliance is in the story itself. With the twists and turns of a first rate book - Pam Wallace carefully weaves her masterpiece into a truly awesome masterpeice. GREAT JOB PAM - Oscar winning performance

Summary: GREAT FILM!
Review: A dramatic adventure about a young Amish boy who becomes a witness to a murder. Harrison Ford earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as John Book, a Philadelphia a cop who is forced to flee the city and live with the Amish in order to protect the young witness and his mother, played by Kelly McGillis. The story provides a wonderful contrast between the rough, violent world of the city and the serene, pacifist attitudes of Old-Order Amish. Enchanting music, outstanding cinematography of Pennsylvania Amish Country, and fine perfomances.

Summary: Classic
Review: The story is excellent...and I think it's one of the few movies that shed a little light on the lifestyle of the Amish. Granted there are many different sects and such, but many of us have a small degree of fascination with the Amish because of how secluded they are. The music and scenery in general also do a lot for me. Witness and Hoosiers are the only movies that come to mind that I would love to watch in the fall, with tons of leaves on the ground, the windows open and dusk just starting...it's a mood thing with these movies Heehee!

Summary: this movie was as an assignment from my professor at barry u
Review: I saw this movie while I was in college at barry university as a class assignment. I loved it from the beginning to the end. Harrison ford is astonishing and kelly mcgillis is a real actress. I especially loved the part of samuel. He was a great child actor. In this movie, he displayed a lot of maturity. He also became well known after the movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in the amish way of life. I can watch this movie anytime and will never get tired of it. Hooray to harrison ford and his crew. They did a splendid job.

Summary: ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH
Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time....there are so many good scenes in it and the storyline is well done. I think Harrison Ford is a very talented actor who always plays his role well in films. The villans do a good job of playing their characters too and the music is excellent as well.

Summary: HARRISON FORD AT HIS VERY BEST! WITNESS RULES!
Review: "WITNESS" is about Ford and an Amish boy who witnesses a murder. Now, the Amish don't beleive in killing and guns - and to have their child see that sort of stuff is just terrible. Now, men who were involved in the murder are out to murder THE AMISH BOY! Suspenseful and red - blooded, "WITNESS" is an awsome film! I loved it and I bet anyone will, too! ENJOY!
