Summary: Very Nice Update
Review: This New Two-Disc Collection has some nice new material from the making of the film and discussions with the main actors about their experiences, highlighted with an episode of the Charlie Rose Show, featuring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman and Frank Darabont. It is a nice package and update containing interesting material. As for the film it still ranks number one on my list and probably will not be moved any time soon. It continues to be one of the best and most absorbing films about friendship, human nature, and so much more.

Summary: The Shawshank Redemption
Review: A lot of fancy words have been used in some reviews of this film. If you want my advice, this is simply the best film you will probably see.

Spend part of a Sunday afternoon in front of your tv and turn it up! :-)

Summary: Simply the greatest work in filmography ever assembled
Review: When this movie came out in theaters, I was only 12 years old. I don't even remember it being in the theaters. Luckily I happned to watch it a few years ago. Ever since I have never forgetten the way it makes me feel. I get goosebumps whenever I hear the film score. A tremendous tale of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity and the tough times life places before us. The plot is flawless.

Summary: Best Movie Ever Made
Review: This is by far the best movie that I have ever seen and I think most would agree. First of all the script is perfect. At the opening of the movie you are thrown into the life of Andrew Dufresne who is being charged with a crime that he did not commit. He is sentanced to serve out his time at Shawshank Prison. From there a friendship sparks with him and another inmate named "Red". The movie is about his life and how he adapts to prison with a great ending. With a cast including Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman it's no wonder why this movie did so great at the Academy Awards. The DVD edition has a great clean crisp picture with outstanding sound. Your sure to love this movie and your DVD collection isn't complete without it!

Summary: "Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free."
Review: The Shawshank Redemption is commonly said to be one of the greatest movies ever made! It did horrible at the box-office but in 1995 the VHS stormed the charts as one of the best selling VHS videos of all time. The classic film is finally on DVD.

Andy Dufrense (played by Tim Robbins) is sentenced to life in prison for two murders he didn't commit in 1947. Of course there's not a soul who believes he's innocent. Soon Andy meets Red (Morgan Freeman) who is a man who knows how to get things. There's only one thing Andy really wants, Rita Hayworth. Andy is a smart man, and when people figure out what it is he's doing with Rita Haywroth, it's far too late for them to do anything about it.

You'll notice that The Shawshank Redemption has no choppy, cheesy special effects and you'll notice it doesn't have a lot of humor. But what you will notice is it has fine performances, a story and the most uplifting message a movie has ever given before. By Andy not giving up hope, he was able to survive Shawshank, the prison ruled by a sadistic warden.

A good story makes a good movie. Sure it didn't have a lot of special effects, but it had a story to tell, and that story was an uplifting story showing you how far hope can get you. With a tear jerking ending and stunning revolution, "The Shawshank Redemption" really is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Summary: Candidate for all-time best...
Review: This movie is one of the best ever made.... it succeeds even without the customary female interest.... very inspiring character portrayed by Tim Robbins.... Morgan Freeman's character is also one worthy of emulation.... this movie has a very strong plot and the prefect pace. Very humbling to watch Tim Robbins bear his injustice with such equanimity.... and actually start a library in Shawshank prison. Watch this when you feel your life sucks, and you will get your dose of motivation in addition to being placated by the fact that a lot of people have lives that suck far more. I do not want to write more about the movie - rent this movie, and sit patiently through the 142 minutes without any breaks.... it'll prove why instant gratification is light years inferior to perseverance and a life of pure karma. A very thoroughly deserved 5 stars, and that too averaged over 742 reviews.... it is so good that I find it very hard to do justice to this masterpiece with words such as these. Watch it!!!

Summary: Freeman's Shining Moment
Review: Judging by the volume of reviews for "The Shawshank Redemption" there probably isn't much more to say other than that this is a great landmark film. I'm going to use this forum to sing the praises of Morgan Freeman because this film is his greatest accomplishment in an impressive film career. As good as the ensemble of actors employed here Freeman's Red is the glue that holds the whole enterprise together. This performance is the difference between a very good film and a great one. I remember when Siskel and Ebert were doing their Oscar show back in 1995, I can't remember which, but one selected Freeman as best actor and the other picked Tom Hanks for "Forrest Gump" the logic being that Freeman had the less showy but no less powerful role while Hanks performed more mannerly. As time goes on, Freeman's role eclipses Hanks but that's not how the Academy saw it at the time. This year Freeman is nominated for the Oscar again for his role in "Million Dollar Baby". I hope he gets it. I watched the Golden Globes and it broke my heart to see Clive Owen beat Freeman for his part in "Closer". Owen was very good but when you take the track record into account Freeman is long overdue for the gold statuette.

Summary: Excellent movie in all respects.
Review: This is a serious movie that ends on a light note. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are both excellent actors who really drive this prison story along nicely. This is one of those movies that you don't mind watching again every year.
