Summary: "Shawshank" :Possibly the best "endurance" story since Ulyss
Review: "Shawshank Redemption" suffereded box-office rejection because of its title! Whatta shame! It would have walked off with top Academy honors, but "Forest Gump" snowed the popular audience. Too bad because "Shawshank" is one of the best movies ever to portray the endurance and fortitude of man; also to show the weaknesses of others. One can watch it over and over and learn and see something new every time. A deep, brooding story, as well as an uplifting, witty, and finally a satisfying and heart-pumping ending. Those of us who love it are a special audience, and we want to tell everyone we admire to share in its brilliance.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
Review: The Shawshank Redemption is by far my very favorite movie. It has the best ending of and movie that I have ever seen. You should also read the novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" in the book different seasons bt Stephen king.

Summary: Maltin Summary: Hollow and Preditable
Review: Let me quote from Leonard Maltin's online review of Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon": "Exquisite, meticulously detailed period piece. Long, deliberately paced but never boring." This is the same person who called "The Shawshank Redemption": "Well crafted but terribly overlong, and hollow and predictable." In point of fact, the canvases of both films are essentially the same, right down to the voice-over narration. Apparently, Mr. Maltin had a good night in 1975 and a bad night in 1994, and such are the vagaries of film criticism. I try never to read reviews; they are but sirens to the shipwreck of enjoyment. If "The Shawshank Redemption" is "predictable", then it's predictable in the way a folk tale is predictable. What about the joy of the trip? And "hollow"? I'm speechless.

Summary: The best prison film ever.
Review: This movie surprised the hell out of me. I was expecting an overlong movie that my government teacher was making me watch. I was wrong. The first half-hour of the movie was so great, I went out and bought it so I could see the rest ahead of my classmates. I loved it. Writer-director Frank Darabont has directed a fantastic film that captured my imagination for the entire time I was watching it. It did something a lot of films fail to do: It got me emotionally involved in the film. I sympathized with the characters, especially Red (Morgan Freeman), who was denied parole for years simply because he was black. Tim Robbins is also great as Andy Dufresne, and hits just the right key with his icy exterior and inner pain. I love this movie. I can't wait for "The Green Mile," another Stephen King adaption that has been written and directed by Darabont.

Summary: Flawless
Review: What can I say about this movie except I honestly believe its one of the best of all time. I cannot think of a way they could have possibly made it any better. The storytelling, chain of events, suspense, character depth, and hope make this an almost perfect film.

Summary: Really, really good. Try it.
Review: The Shawshank Redemption is simply a piece of good storytelling. Told from the point of view of Morgan Freeman's prison veteran Red, it chronicles Andy Dufresne's prison life. Andy, a reserved but sympathetic ex-banker, tries to maintain quiet dignity in an environment of sheer brutality. This movie is as flawless as it gets, IMHO.

Summary: Justified as Number 1
Review: Check out IMDB.com and you'll see this movie at number 1 in the all time favourites. It's been number 1 on that site for at least 2 years Why ? A brilliant, thought provoking movie that will be sure to move you and hopefully change the way you see life

Summary: The epitome of story-telling
Review: 'Shawshank' ranks as the best example of excellent story telling that I have ever seen. The pace, the choice of Red as the story teller, the sequence of events and the flawless editing makes this most complete movie you will find and a tribute to fine film-making. Tim Robbins turns in a fine performance, but the real jewel is Morgan Freeman's portrayal of Red. In the novella by King, this character is a red-headed Irishman and shows up in the movie as an inside joke ('why do they call you Red?' "Maybe it's because I'm Irish..."). A must own.

Summary: Spectacular! ! Film making at it's best.
Review: This story is told beautifully. It was, even though it took place in a prison, photographed beautifully. Morgan Freeman was as usual riveting as "Red". Tim Robbins also is great in his greatest role to date. All the actors performed brilliantly and add to the richness of the story. Especially "this man's about to have an accident" Clancy Brown as the guard. It's very disheartening to me that the Academy chose to award "Forrest Gump" with the Best Picture award. That one was nothing more than a glorified soap opera, no lasting substance at all. Shawshank should have ran away with that one. Shawshank is right up there with "Amadeus" as my personal all time favorites. The 147 minutes just fly by and you don't want it to end. A great drama all around. Without any car chases, explosions or sappy love story. Although it is about love and friendship, it's never corny.

Perfect. Bravo! to those responsible for making this masterpiece. We want more.
