Summary: A Perfect Film
Review: I love this movie. It's perfect in every way, shape and form. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins both give outstanding performances. Frank Darabont writes a wonderful script and directs a terrific film. Quite possibly better than the book, and that is a difficult thing to accomplish. Unlike so many movies today, this is more than one movie. It's many stories, many characters and many films all condensed into the best 140 minutes I have ever experienced. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Now, all we need is a special edition DVD...

Summary: A movie for people who like real movies
Review: This is a definite masterpiece of work. It was an excellent film made by careful precision and detail. The story is consistent and virtually flawless, leaving a question free enjoyment of this great film. A good idea would be to buy this, since it is enjoyable enough to want to watch multiple times.

The story is a real grabber. It will pull you in and not stop. After the pulling has stopped you will try to still get pushed in, wanting more. The film gets you that involved. The cast couldn't have been better. Tim Robbins does an excellent job as Andy, and Morgan Freeman is perfect for the role of Red.

The way the film progresses is also extremely involving. You are wondering how the heck everything happened, and then you get this great explination from Morgan Freeman showing how Andy did his thing.

This film deserves five stars, and it also deserves your money. Buying this film will be a good investment. WARNING: This is for people who don't get pure enjoyment out of watching guys get split into pieces of gore and see blood spill on the camera.

Summary: One of the Best Movies of the 90's
Review: If someone would ask me what the best movies of the 90's, I'd reply quickly: Barton Fink, Fearless, Eyes Wide Shut, Contact, Heat, Cradle Will Rock, Ed Wood, The Big Lebowski, The Three Colors Trilogy and definitely The Shawshank Redemption.

It's such a classical tale, that it is one of the movies that I'm sure everybody's kids will be watching as the really good stuff our parents were watching; just like we now watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or The Godfather.

Frank Darabont is a talented guy. I wasn't such a fan of The Green Mile; I thought it was a little exaggerated. But he really brought the little guy inside of him out here- story, camera, acting, music- just everything is perfect. The camera especially is used very intelligently and is in perfect harmony with the voice of Red (Morgan Freeman).

Tim Robbins is a really great and lucky guy. He worked with the Coens, Robert Altman, and directed some very good movies, including the marvelous Cradle Will Rock (Read my review!).

Morgan Freeman is the man who really should be given an Honorary Oscar for being able to save even the worst movies with his talent. Not that this one is bad! His voice is one of the most important elements of the movie, and I doubt any other actor could have done it so well.

As I said, this here is a true classic. I doubt it would ever be forgotten. Mr. Darabont, I hope your next movie, Fahrenheit 451, is as good as the Truffaut version years before. I congratulate you for making such a terrific film.

Summary: An Awsome Movie
Review: I first saw this movie on board a bus heading to boston, and was thrilled with this movie. It is about a man, who has been falsely accused of murder. He is then sent to the Shawshank Prison, where he spends ten years before escaping. The movie really portrayed what it can be like in prisons-- not how the guards treated people-- but hoe prisoners treat each other. During the movie, you forget that the people are convicts and criminals, and then think of them as people. During the course of the movie, we see Andy, the main character, bring dramatic changes to the prison, and how he copes with life there. He gets a library, a way for inmates to get out and do better work in the community, educates some of the people he befriends, and uncovers the scandel that the prison warden is doing. This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen, and it is plain to see why it won the nominations that it did.

Summary: My Favorite Movie
Review: The Shawshank Redemption can be considered no less than a masterpiece. It is my favorite movie of all time, and I don't really see that changing in the future. It has what is probably the greatest movie ending ever, and if you haven't heard anything about it yet, you will be taken completwly by surprise. Like it says on the back of the cover, the main character, Andy, is full of surprises... And he saves his best for last.

Summary: The "F" Word Strikes Again
Review: I've seen this movie on television several times and enjoyed it greatly. A good story of triumph over adversity, however when I purchased the video I was greatly disappointed because the notorious " F " word ruined the writing for me and the acting as far as I'm concerened. Thats all I could see or hear and it ruined the quality of the movie for me, my husband didn't even enjoy it as much. It's a shame that a briliiant actor and director had to fall victum to the use of vile language when it was proven by the television version that it was completely unnecessary to the impact and story line.

Summary: Best Scene In My Opinion
Review: When Andy locks himself in the office and plays the Operetta. This is a truly outstanding moment in the film. You must see the beginning, the middle and the end of this movie, without interruption, to truly grasp everything this film has to offer, and to appreciate this scene. Absolutely Outstanding! No special effects, no computer generated effects, just a truly outstanding film on its own. The Actors chosen were perfect for their parts, everyone from Andy to Red and the other prisoners, to the warden and the tough prison guard. I couldn't see any of these characters being portrayed by anyone else. Remarkable in every way! How this picture got overlooked at the Oscars, I don't know.

And what are these people talking about when they say you learn to feel that Andy was justified for committing this crime. Are they sure they saw THIS movie?

Summary: The Shawshank Redemption
Review: This movie is phenomonal. Best Movie I ever saw. I agree with one of the other reviews that I read, the length of the movie is absolutely essential for this story to be told. You feel what Andy went through, you pass the years with him, and you feel his hope of freedom. The way the story is told by Red, (Morgan Freeman) but based mostly around Andy, (Tim Robbins) makes you feel like you really know them personally. You feel their emotions and dissappointments. I Love this Movie. You can watch it over and over again and it still stirs the same emotions you felt the first time you saw it. Definitely a Classic.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: I have seen this three times and it gets better every time. As much as I can't stand Tim Robbins, he does a very nice job here. This is one of Morgan Freemen's finer if not finest works.

Review: To watch Shawshank Redemption: No popcorn/coke, phone off the hook, all eyes on the screen as if you are there with them - you will then get all the patients needed. And trust me, you will be redeemed...
