Summary: What the hell is Leonard Maltin's problem?
Review: TAXI DRIVER is the un-relenting tale of one man's journey into insanity while driving a cab on the streets of New York City. The many situations that Travis Brickle (a bloody brillinat performance by Robert DeNiro) encounters and the many people he meets while drivng this cab at night send him into a downward spiral of hate and contempt for everyone and everything. The fact that he is a Vietnam vet really seems to play a role in how affected he is by this incredibly obscene and disgusting society. Being dumped by a woman with whom is incredibly fond of, in addition to meeting a 13 year old street hooker all further establish as a sort of morality tale which questions both our society, and the people affected by it. The harsh yet mellow aura of the film is sharpley interupted at the end by an incredibly violent climax which may be too much if you're not expecting it.

Summary: An Absolute Masterpiece
Review: This one of the the best movies I've ever seen. At the first viewings towards the very end during the credits, I kept saying to myself what an excellent movie. The music was also really good, it flowed with the movie's atmosphere really well. I advise everyone to see this movie. You won't be disappointed. A+ all the way. The Special Edition DVD delivers superbly. There are so many extras. You can view the screenplay throughout the movie. You can also watch the subtitles in Thailand. There aren't many DVDs out there that has a wide selection in subtitles options. This is one great movie and DVD to own.

Summary: great movie, but not Scorsese's best
Review: I enjoyed this movie, but I have to say it's neither de Niro nor Scorsese's best work (Raging Bull is better by a hair because of its flowing rhythm and totally engrossing quality). The narrative can be confusing at times, and the "shoot-out" scene in the sleazy whorehouse at the end is badly cut and timed, with strangely grainy film quality compared to the rest of the movie (maybe it's due to the MPAA's cutting job that another reviewer mentioned). Also, maybe it's because I saw the older, non-Special Edition DVD version, but the film print seems sort of faded and a little scratchy, and I noticed that part of the image is cut off even in widescreen (especially noticable in the end credits, where it says "starring Robert de Ni"). So I take off half a star each for problems in DVD transfer and for problems in the movie itself. If the Special Edition is of better quality than the original DVD version, think of it as four and a half stars. But don't fret over the little things; see the movie anyway! It's a great movie, certainly better than this year's idiotic blockbusters like Wild Wild West or Deep Blue Sea. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

Summary: One of De Niro's greatest achievments
Review: Robert De Niro is fantastic in this movie, there are many scenes when he is driving his taxi, when he does not even speak but you, the audience, knows exactley what he is thinking. This film is truly one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, to see De Niro's slow fall to insanity is great, and is wonderfully fillmed and executed. The special edition has great extras and an informative documentory about the movie. I recomend this movie one hundred percent. Ending's of movies to me can either make or break a film, and the ending to this movie is just magnificent, I was not even expecting it to end this way, it took me completly by suprise. Get this movie, it is great, I had not even seen it before buying it, I just had a hunch that it was great and it was. Watch out for Jodi Foster to, she is only in the film for a little while but man does she do a wonderful job. I give this movie a big High Five.

P.S. Look for the cameo appearence of the director he is the one who bosses Travis around in the cab.

Summary: What?
Review: I really tried hard to like this one because I enjoy Scorcesse. But this film was just complete utter trash. I was never so revolted . Or maybe that was the point? In any case, you'd be better off watching a train wreck.

Summary: TAXI DRIVER IS A MASTERPEICE!!!!!!
Review: What can I say? Taxi Driver is one of the top films of this century. Robert DeNiro is great and Harvey Keitel is just about as good."You talkin' to me?" 5 stars. By Jon Yates

Summary: Flawless
Review: Yes, one of my favorite three movies of all time, amongst "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Deer Hunter". Scorcese's direction is without flaw, and the acting, diologue, and script alike. How Peter Finch beat out De Niro for Best Actor that year, I do NOT know. De Niro turns in a performance of a life time as the inwardly troubled Travis Bickle that puts the Academy to shame. Shame on you, Academy! So there. The Academy is now unofficially shamed.

Summary: A Truly Gripping Look Into the Mind Of A Deranged Man
Review: This is truly one of the most thought provoking films I have ever seen in a long chain of truly brilliant movies. I have wanted to see this movie for years as it is Deniro's first appearance. The incredible cinematography is an addition to an already amazing flick. The psychological suggestions of the affect of paranoia on an already deranged man and the points which were made about the problems with society make the movie an important one to view. Truly, an incredible movie.

Summary: ITS NOT THE 70'S ANYMORE, YOU CAN RESTORE THE COLOR BACK!
Review: thats the only problem i have with this "special edition". the last scenes had the color messed up so the gay MPAA would give it a R rating. its not the darn 70's anymore, the MPAA has lightened up ALOT. restore the color cause with the redone THX transfering stuff the blood at the end looks like juice from sliced ham at a deli, IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE BLOOD!!! and it takes alot away from the film. maltin is such a jerk! this movie ain't that violent at all. any steven segal movie outdoes this one by a long shot! god i wish they put the color back cause it also messes up the entire flow of the film. its just plain horrible. i love this film otherwise.
