Rating: Summary: for something a bit different.... Review: I enjoyed this movie. It was refreshingly different and managed to capture the sci-fi scariness without using stacks of special effects. Johnny Depp handled his part very well. A good watch, nothing too fancy and easy to take in. If you like science fiction pure and simple, you'll enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: Little of interest Review: Some films you watch cajole you into a state of fascinated timelessness in which you are so very absorbed in the play that the ending seems to come mere minutes after the beginning; some films, on the other hand, make you squirm with restlessness, and you inevitably reach for the Fast Forward button of your remote control. Guess which type this 'Rosemary's Abortion' was? You would expect that any film with even a vague pretense of trying to be a science fiction thriller would, at the very least, sweep you away with special effects. Yes, the Matrix was childish in script but the effects were compelling. This one really had nothing to keep me watching except a small and rapidly diminishing interest in how the space-demon who possessed the hero would manifest itself. For the brief seconds that it appeared, it looked like those smokey, ghostlike wisps from 'Raiders of the lost ark' or 'Poltergeist'. Too little, too late. There was no other similarity between this bomb and those Spielberg classics. For great astronaut shots see Apollo 13; for the 'husband has gotten weird' scenario, see Devil's Advocate; for the 'I am carrying a spooky fetus' genre see Rosemary's Baby; and if smokey, ghostlike wisps are your bag, then see the two aforementioned epics. (For those with an electrical bent: you may wonder why the radio in the bathtub didn't cause the fuse or breaker to trip, thus ending the shocking display.)
Rating: Summary: So So Review: This was a ok film. But it wosent the best I have seen. This movie would probally be ok for a rainy day or if you like sci-fi movies a lot and are into aliens. But if you are not then I would not recommend this film for you.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: I still can't figure out what, exactly, this movie was about. I was confused from beginning to end. Possibly I was so bored that I just didn't pay attention. This has to be one of the worst movies that I've seen in a long time, and I'm not hard to please.
Rating: Summary: For Depp or serious Sci-Fi fans only. Review: I watched this movie for the first time on the DVD. I think the worst thing about this film is the fact that it makes a comparison to Rosemary's Baby on the box. Because of that, I went in with a preconcieved notion of what was going to happen. The comparison is not fair. Rosemary's Baby was a great film, but this movie can stand on it's own without people trying to fool us into thinking that it is a remake of "Baby." I am a big fan of Johnny Depp and I think that he brings a touch of class to all of his films. This one is no exception. Charlize Theron is the persona of every boy's dream elementary school teacher. Both give good performances. Unfortunatley, Johnny's biggest role is to try not to say anything. I think that Johnny shows us a different kind of character here than he has before and if you are a fan of his, it might be worth checking out. To wrap it up, I think that any science fiction fan would enjoy this film at least for one watch. It's easy on the special effects but heavy on the suspense. Some sceens were done very well, with a real artistic flair. Don't read the box before you watch it. Well, if you are reading this it is too late to avoid the Rosemary's Baby reference, but ignore it. This movie is not Rosemary's Baby. It may not be a better film, but it is one worth a watch. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Terrible Review: This movie was the poorest excuse for a film I'd seen in a long time. It's poor plot and plot development managed to almost put me asleep. In the midst of such great films as The Matrix and The Sixth Sense its sad that a production studio would even let this title be released. This movie is a great choice if you need something to lure you into a trance and then make you fall asleep.
Rating: Summary: As bad as it gets Review: This movie has it all: bad writing, poor acting and cheap production. I watched, because Johnny Depp has usually been in good movies. This was a mistake for him, and a mistake for me to watch. The writing was so flawed, it is hard to comment on it's inadequacies. It wasn't like there was a few missing links or non-sensical scenes; there seemed to be no attempt at coherency.
Rating: Summary: Could Have Been So Much Better Review: Great premise, although not exactly innovative storytelling. Good acting and great to look at. The storyline wears thin and the ending feels too predicable and easy. Acting quality is very good, which leads me to believe a little more care with the script and pace could have made this really good and worth seeing more than once. Entertaining though. It keeps you watching. Good movie for a Saturday afternoon.
Rating: Summary: Just say no! Review: I think Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor and I usually enjoy his work. However, this movie was not well written at all and therefore not enjoyable to me. The plot seems muddled and the character's are not developed well. I think the scariest thing about this movie is Johnny Depp's haircolor.
Rating: Summary: Another Mediocre SF flick Review: This is a nice-looking movie with a good cast, but the pacing is fairly slow and anyone who has seen more than a dozen SF movies will not find any new ideas here. It's fairly obvious from the beginning how the plot will develop, so there's little in the way of suspense. The ending is no real surprise.
