Summary: "Bullet Time" Is Born
Review: If you need only one reason to get this DVD, here it is: the audio commentary track. It is absolutely hilarious, and in many cases very insightful. Directors and Executive Producers Andy and Larry Wachowski join editor Zach Staenberg and 'Technical' Consultant Susie Bright, along with Joe Pantoliano, Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon in a very candid and comical commentary on the visually stunning achievement that is Bound. Jennifer joins in at about 1:07:00 and finally Gershon shows up at 1:17:44. They all add meaning to each single scene, my only wish is that they would have included the bloopers/deleted scenes. I actually laughed out loud many times during the commentary. In fact, this is the first time ever I listened to a complete commentary track. It is a must for all cinema buffs out there. They keep talking about Laser Disc, I guess the DVD format was not out just yet. Yes, there was life before DVD '

Very few cons:

The commentary track seem to be damaged - it is not a physical defect on the disc itself. The audio goes out at 52:06 and comes back at 53:30. Not a big deal, but we will probably never know what was said in those 84 seconds :)

Towards the end the commentary kind of breaks down because everyone talks over each other.

The movie itself:

What can I say? It is extremely sexy, funny, technically well crafted, beautifully shot, spectacularly edited ' It is a love story, a gangster movie, a sexy thriller, a caper flick, it is a lot of things at once. It is amazing what $4.5M and a superb cast & crew can do. Joe Pantoliano (Caesar) steals the movie, but the performances of Tilly (Violet) , Gershon (Corky), and specifically John Ryan (Mickey) are extraordinary.

Of course there are many parallels with the next Wachowski brothers' project, The Matrix (or is it the other way around?). For starters, we can appreciate the first conceptual 'bullet time' ' time slows down dramatically during a shooting sequence. Obviously we couldn't foresee Matrix-type visual effects but looking back we can witness the birth of something revolutionary. Zach Staenberg also edited The Matrix, and of course, Joey Pants delighted us in The Matrix as well. I'm sure there are more things in common.

Forget about the R-rated version ' get the unrated DVD. The unrated version shows an astounding one-shot love scene not shown entirely in the theater release. You'll see why. Technically alone it is good to watch ;)

Few special features that would make the DVD even better:

1. Bloopers
2. Deleted Scenes
3. Maybe a Director's Cut ???
4. Cast interviews
5. 'Making of ' featurette

For everything that it is, Bound deserves a solid 5 star rating.

Summary: When The Matrix was just a twinkle in their eyes....
Review: The Watchowski Bros. handcrafted this gem with cinematic bravado and touches of "bullet time" before anyone ever heard of the term. If you want a movie that has a little David Mamet and touch of Christopher Nolan, "Bound" is it. It's got smart and unexpected plot twists like Mamet's movies and awsome cinematography like Nolan's "Memento". This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat biting your fingernails. Definitely a must have for movie lovers!

Summary: A great film
Review: This is what I'm talking about. A film that has smart characters, so smart that you aren't sure that even YOU know what they will and wil not do, along with an acceptance of sexuality that it secondary to the plot. This movie could've been played by a man and a woman, two men, whatever, the point is that when opportunity knocks teh important thing is to be in tune enough with yourself to fling yourself into it.
Jennifer Tilly is somewhere between hilarious and chilling as a woman who may or may not be a ditz, a bimbo, a conniver, a liar, a fool, depending upon how SHE decides and Gina Gershon plays a lesbian who thinks she's closed off to the seduction game, only to be seduced.
In the end I was even sure whether Gershon represented love to Tilly's character or simply the best opportunity.
A priceless gem of a movie.

Summary: A guilty pleasure movie
Review: Yes I own this video. I thought it was incredibly suspensful the first time around. But after the plot is fully revealed I don't feel watching it a second time just to see what happens is necessary or wise. So why I have I watched it more than once? Its all about the lesbian sex scene. *Sigh* Hormones. It's beautifully done and will turn on any girl loving girl or girl loving guy. I mean after all it is the kinda movie that holds you by the seat of the pants to see what happens, and unless you have a memory that's not up to par, it's hard to watch over and over again just to see what happens. The fact Jennifer Tilly is hot helps the movie.

Summary: BOUND
Review: THIS IS NOT THE STORY OF A FAT ITALIAN MOBSTER, NOR IS A MOVIE VERSION OF THE SUPRANOS, OR ANY OTHER MAFIA TALE PUT ON FILM.
ITS SEXY, SUSPENSFUL AND WILL HAVE YOU HANGING ON EDGE FROM BEGINNING TO END. VIOLET (TILLY) IS THE LOVER OF A MOBSTER IN DEEP. SHE DOESNT CARE MUCH FOR THE BUISNESS BUT IT MAKES FOR NICE CASH AND HER LOVER CAESAR IS A GREAT MEAL TICKET. SHE DOESNT CARE MUCH FOR CAESAR EITHER BUT NEITHER DOES SHE FOR ANY OF HER OTHER TRICKS. THEN SHE MEETS CORKEY (GERSHON). A TOUGH TALKIN EX CON WHO JUST FINISHED UP A FIVE YEAR SENTENCE FOR "GETTING CAUGHT". VIOLETS IN LOVE, IN LUST, IN JUST ABOUT EVERY THING SHE COULD BE WITH CORKEY. THEN VIOLET BEGINS TO SUFFER FROM THE BUISNESS AND FINALLY COMES WITH THE CONCLUSION THAT SHE WANTS OUT AND THAT THEYD OFF HER JUST AS FAST AS ANY COMMON THUG. THEN THE BIG TICKET COMES IN 2 MILLION DOLLARS AND ALL IN THE HANDS OF CAESAR. ENOUGH AND MORE TO SET VIOLET AND CORKEY UP FOR LIFE. BOUND FOLLOWS THE TWO IN LOVE AND IN GREED. YOU LIKE SEX, ITS GOT PLENTY OF THAT AND VERY GRAPHICALLY I MIGHT ADD. YOU LIKE MOB MOVIES, ITS GOT THAT TOO, YOU LIKE SUSPENSE, THEIR TRYING TO RIP OFF THE MOB, YOU DO THE MATH. ITS A GREAT MOVIE.

Summary: Great Gangland Caper!
Review: Kind of like Martin Scorsese with lingerie. Ok, not a pretty image, I admit, but it sort of describes this movie! Although Marty didn't direct, Bound follows gangster movie themes which remind me of some his films, at least up to a point. There are plot twists aplenty here as the two heroines play out their plan to steal $2 million from the mob. It's also good to see two central characters who are gay, shown in such a positive (and sexy) way. Great acting from all concerned, and the movie manages to create a hugely enjoyable mix of bloody gangland stuff with humour and satire. You won't know how it's going to end and you won't want it to end. Superb.

Summary: If this isnt a cult movie yet, it should be!
Review: I think my brothers reaction to this movie summed it up perfectly. He thought I was trying to get him to watch some low-level lesbian B rate movie. He appologised later, after he unglued himself from the tv and the couch. This movie grips you in the first minutes of the show, and keeps you there and deeply into it right through to the end. I always wish the movie kept going, and let you watch these two amazing characters blaze on. It is now nearly 5 years since I first watched this movie, and to this day I am eternally grateful to the guy who first showed it to me. This is perhaps my favorite movie of all time, or at least it ranks right up there with the few other favorites I have. The action, dialogue dn chemistry of the script, filming, and acting is just superb and and gripping in ways that few movies today are. Watch it over and over.. because this movie is one of the best!

Summary: gimmick
Review: Okay Bound was a pretty good movie but the plot has been done before. The movie itself would have played out the same if " Corky " was a guy. What makes the movie good is the plot after Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly start their relationship. Everything before is so stereotypical it hurts. The lesbian part of this movie plays as a marketing tool. It's still a good movie to watch, but just remember not all lesbians rob from gangsters, and wear black

Summary: Tie me up!
Review: Hilarious, sexy, and definitely witty...this movie has great style that's surely lacking in most cinema features today. Jennifer Tilly is the perfect mob moll with more brains than you think. Gina Gershon is the foil with a plan.
